I'm sure this could've gone in off-topic, but it was about a car, so I put it here. I'm just venting about pain in the ass sellers. To be technical, it's been about 24 days of going back and forth with this seller trying to buy a damn 240. It's a pignose coupe, it's rusty, fenders are shot, rear quarter panel damage, etc, typical 240. So far, I am the only one who has made an offer on the car. I honestly wouldn't pay over $800. He wants $1300. I am up to $1200, and I am spent. He just won't budge and it's just so damn annoying. He wanted the car gone "asap". Blue book on the car was between $600-900. Pain in the ass. I even offered to throw in a brand new $200 alarm on top of it. I just want this damn car and it's just driving me crazy. That's all.

I'm sick of everyone asking for rediculous amounts of money for their 240. For real, I've had people ask for $3400 on a COMPLETELY STOCK 240sx just because it was clean. The miles were still through the roof. Like for real, I don't care how clean it is, I know what it's worth, and it's no where near $3400.

I know, some people are ridiculous with their asking prices. I'm not going to spend that kind of cash on a beat rusty car. That whole initial d **** and drifting skyrocketing these prices, I should've sold my rx7's for big profit. I did made a nice profit on my old s13 when I sold it though.

Don't buy into fad cars. Problem solved.

It has nothing to do with the fad. I hate drifting and any of that ****, I just like 240s. I had a hatchback before and I miss it, I enjoyed driving it. I don't care what other people think of them or if everyone else has them, I buy the car because I like it.

Eventually, yeah, I don't care about being cheap, it's just finding one in my price range. I'm spending as much as I can right now, I don't have any extra cash to add. I want a coupe with a power sunroof, and they are a pain to come by. If I had the extra money, I would just give the guy the extra $100 and buy the damn car just to get it, but I don't have it. I even told him, I still have to get the car home somehow. I have a DD, so I don't care enginewise if the car runs, this one happens to run fine though. I just want a clean shell, and there are just no coupe shells for sale, at least none in my price range.

Honestly, move on from this car and look for another one. Buying cars isn't worth the hassle, I generally don't even pay attention to a car that is priced way too high from the beginning. Just go find another one, took me 2.5 months for me to find my Camaro but it was worth the wait.

I've been going through this bull**** looking for a 240 coupe for over a year now and I'll tell you, it's the most annoying, stressful thing ever, but when I have one it'll be well worth it. That's what I want. I don't care how long it takes me to find the right one, I'm gonna find one. I've looked at other cars and I've come across a lot of great deals like, an '88 Supra for $800. I was all ready to go ahead and but it but it just didn't feel right. I've come across hundred of hatches, but I just don't care for them.

Don't buy into fad cars. Problem solved.

For real, it's annoying how everyone and their mother wants a 240 but I don't even care about that. I'm a Nissan fan and I always have been. I love the look of a coupe when it's driving by and I love how there are endless possibilities when it comes to modding. It's not like a Honda how, no matter what you do to it, they all sound the same.

It's threads like these that make me thankful for what I have. I bought mine in 2005 for $1,500 and drove 10 hours one way down to Charlotte, NC to pick it up. And this was with a crumpled front fender and damaged right flip-up head light and 147k miles on the car. (granted I didn't care about the body damage because I already had a full S13 Silvia conversion waiting at home) BUT...it was a southern car that never saw snow or salt and the body was in perfect shape with ZERO rust. The point is...if you're prepared to drive a distance, that'll open up other car buying oportunities.

I figured. I don't mean anything negative by it, it's just that I've seen a lot of different Hondas that sound very similar whereas I've seen a TON of 240s and they all sound different. I don't understand why, no matter what you do to it, every Honda sounds the same.

If you guys want a cheap 240 you need to be looking at Auto-Trader and NO WERE ELSE. You need to find people who don't know what they have. Like a 50 year old lady who hates her pristine S13 coupe because it has a manual transmission. Everyone on the forums knows what they can get. Your not gonna find a good deal.

A freind of mine bought a MINT 92 coupe of autotrader last year. How much did he pay? $500

And BTW-----I agree that you have to drive to get a good one. My car came from California.

I agree, also. You're not gonna find anything good in the city.

A friend of mine bought his coupe for $800 off of some guy's brother. The guy moved to Italy or something and said sell it. No rust, no damage, nothing.

He is right, it's not the price itself. I said in a previous post if I had the extra $100 I'd give it to him. It's just trying to deal with this guy, and negotiating the price. It's only a $100 difference and no one else has even made an offer on the car, it's been up since april, that is what is annoying. The only inflation prices I think are retarded is the whole drift thing skyrocketing stock/beat high mileage cars up into $3,000+ price range. I would never pay that much so it doesn't really bother me too much.

I wouldn't either, but it's seeing them going for that price that bothers me. It just makes it that much more difficult to find one at a reasonable price.

Like $100 is really going to ruin the seller's life.

Exactly. Here is some quick info on the coupe I'm looking at.
- One bad spot on the passenger rocker, by the front
- Minor surface rust by sunroof
- Minor surface rust on strut towers
- Minor surface rust on framerails
- Dented passenger rear quarter
- Dented/slight surface rust by driverside taillight
- Fenders shot
- No idea on interior
- 150k give or take
- new clutch (woo...)
- All stock

I'd take the hit and buy it depsite the damages just because I really want a coupe and it's a project anyway, I dd my civic. With all this he still won't budge on $100. wtf.

I wouldn't even pay $800 for that. $600 maybe. Too much rust, and quarter panels are a bitch to repair. Fenders aren't a big deal, and clutches are a dime a dozen. I'm sure he just put an OEM clutch on there so it's not like he payed an arm and a leg. For real, if he doesn't come down that $100 tell him to take his $100 and his rusty ass coupe, and shove it far up his ass. Don't forget to add the GLWS.

IdriveBad
05-24-2008, 01:50 PM
I'm willing to take the hit and get the car because they are getting a pain to find, and I can fix the rust since it's mostly just surface. A lot of s13's I see for sale are usually rust ridden and I didn't want this car to goto waste or be junked or something because of it. I plan on doing a silvia front end (dual halogens, I hate the projectors) so the front really isn't a big deal for me. The major problems I see are the surface rust on the framerails, depending on how bad it is, he said it's slight, who knows though, and the rocker rust and dented quarter. The quarter dent is right by the door, like my old one, so it may not be too bad. He never emailed me back so I wouldn't be surprised if he never does, but if he does I'll at least give it a good look over.

It's ok, I have an LS1. :-p

And it also probably comes from being around mostly 240s. I think they all sound relatively the same, SR to SR, KA to KA, RB to RB that is. Obviously with so many different engine combo's going into these things with completely different properties they're all going to sound a bit different.

Honda's are all the same engine more or less, with slightly different properties. So yeah, most of them sound similar.

Anyway, keeping on topic. Honestly, I'd set out with a certain $$$ value that you want to spend and start looking at pricing in that range. Look absolutely everywhere, cars.com, autotrader, craigslist, ebay. I don't even bother looking at forums anymore, it just doesn't work out.

I ended up finding my Camaro on ebay. Drove 3 hours one way to check it out, drove back home to bid on it. Won the car, and drove all the way back to pick it up and drive it home again. Don't settle for a bad deal just because you're tired of looking, there's always another one.:)

Yeah, that's my current plan. I have $1200 set aside just to find a 240. I don't care if it's a shell or if it's running. I look at cars.com, autotrader, autoshopper, craigslist, and ebay everyday. I paid either $500 or $550 when I bought my 92 hatch. Everything back from the front seats were gutted, sitting on K-Sports (yea I know...), the engine had a thrown rod, and there was damage to the front right corner from a truck or something.

After pulling everything apart, only "major" rust I've found so far is passenger rear floor pan which was a ~4" hole after stabbing the rust with a screw driver, the passenger strut tower had some rust (typical), both lower insides of the tower below where the brake lines pass through there was rust (typical), and there is a small area of rust on the driver side "rail" where it kicks up at the firewall.

I only want the shell so I don't care if it's auto or 5 spd. Looks pretty mint from the pics, has a little bit of surface rust by the rear license plate and ****, but that's nothing. Wanted to make an update. The original guy I posted about with the beat coupe emailed me yesterday and today. He said he would take $1200 haha. After a month he finally budged $100 (start of ad was 4/30). I told him I found a clean shell for cheap and that I told him I wasn't going to wait around for a car that needed that kind of tlc. He said no need to make smart remarks. Oh well I guess. But hey, I'll be nice, I'd give him $500 for it now but not a penny more.

****ty situation I know how it is. I've owned my 240 for a little over 2 years now. I spent a year and a half looking. Same boat as Jacki. Dead set on a 93 Coupe. Every single one was ass rape back then too. The price hike on s13's is nothing new. I remember some asshole trying to sell me his 89 Coupe for 3,200$ Smoker, Completely rusted, Framerail rot. He kept ranting about how rare the OEM two tone Seafoam Green/ Metallic Grey was.

I got really lucky when a friend of mine told me his brother crashed his swapped integra and just needed money to buy a CRX so he could save his motor. Sold me his 91' SE LE for 1,500$ Power everything, extreamly clean with 108k on the ODO. It was a hatch but I fell for it the minute I saw it. I hated Hatches untill I got mine. Now I've got mad 3dr love. Don't get me wrong I still feel for my Coupe Bretherin, and Sister... It'll be plural once Jacki finally gets one. Her and Verena Mei will be the only ones :-p

Good look with your search man, If you're looking for a project and can afford the downtime, Hunt local junk yards too. I mean there usually 500$ for a chassis. I've seen so many s13's, AE86. AW11, SW20... goto waste there. Especally the few local u-pull-it's.

I've never seen a 240 at a junkyard, I'd be all over it. My friend found one and is going to check it out this weekend. It's a 90 hatch, 5 speed, power everything, no sunroof. Just hit 150k, body is pretty clean along with interior, has the stock lip too. Guy wants $1900, we're heading up with $1800 cash and seeing what happens. It's making me tempted to just buy an SR and drop it in my coupe, but I want to work on my DD right now cause I actually drive that.

as it's been said a million times in this thread, 240's are ridiculously overpriced because of the jdm fanboy ****.......

However, sometimes paying a little extra for a stock unmolested chassis with decent miles could be worth it's weight in gold down the road. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people cheap out and pay $800 for a 240 and then a few years down the road after they have swapped it and dumped a bunch of money into it, had unrepairable frame rot or other issues.

I bought mine close to 6 years ago now, and I payed a decent amount for mine. It was a cali car with 76k, and I can say that my last 6 trouble free years are worth the extra money I paid for it.

I think they're holding value becasue people are realizing that it is a good, not hugely expensive, RWD platform with a HUGE amount of aftermarket support.

Compared to 2 door RWD cars of simular price...240's kick ass.

What about $700 for a stock unmolested automatic coupe haha? While yes, there is a little bit of rust, the rest of the car is in great condition and it's just under 116k. I agree with you that I would save up and wait for a stock untouched car rather then buy a piece, but there are deals out there, sometimes you find them sometimes you don't.

That's definitely not a bad deal, but then again you have to realize that it is auto (which takes time and money to switch over to 5-speed). I'm not saying you can't find good deals out there, you can with any type of car, it just depends on how long you want to look.

I didn't care if it was auto or 5 speed because I only bought it for the shell. At least I know this car wasn't beat on or modded up by some teenager who wants to drift. While yes, I wish it was a 5 speed, I have no problem swapping it and it's getting an SR anyway. I'm giving this car a nice new home and a brand new heart. A 5 speed swap isn't that hard/expensive compared to other swaps out there. I don't mind spending a little extra though, I'm doing everything right the first time.
