View Full Version : New Charge Piping made over the weekend...

Me and my friend made me some new charge piping this weekend at his shop for my car, all material was stocked at Verocious in Wilmington. I really like this setup over my previous piping..... I use to have 6.5' of 2.5" piping now I barely have 3' of 3" piping and the Turbo backdoors right into the Intercooler.
Yes I know my Intercooler is not centered and it never will be, this is the only way to fit this size core and backdoor it at the same time w/o cutting the crossmember, anybody that needs any small work like this done in NCC let me know, my friend would be happy to take on some side jobs. LMK what you think..... I am trying to hit Cecil in 2 weeks if cash flow allows me.

Its a Precision 750hp (24x12x3.5)with the endtanks cuts off, total length is like 35" from tank to tank not including the BOV, its not that it wont fit its just there is no way to make a straight shot out of the turbo into the endtank, I either had to make some funks ass bend and then cut metal out of the car or just offset the intercooler.

Those welds look good on the piping.

why do you need a 750 hp intercooler? if thats the only reason its offcenter then i'm sure a 400 hp one that is centered would probably be better overall wouldnt it?

I need a 750hp sized Intercooler because this car is capable of near that as it sits with more boost, I personally could care less if its centered or not, but its the first thing everyone else notices, I go for function before form. I already had this intercooler and didnt want to sell it and spend another $500 on one when this one was brand new.

The only spot where I dont have t-bolt is at the Int. Outlet, and the pipe coming out of it does not move anyway, its braced to the chassis

piping looks great, really nice welds.....i think you meant function before form....if you were a form before function person that intercooler would be centered.

Nope, the 750 is certainly the better choice for a T67 GSR.
I've never really understood the point of backdoor's honestly. Less piping is good and all, but 90* bends suck not to mention you can't center them correctly because of how they mount up. Looks aside, it's important to have the intercooler centered as what's not in direct air flow will not be doing it's job (IE, 1/4 of that intercooler).
Why not flip the BOV and the backdoor? You can just clock the compressor 90* towards the engine and run a twisted S bend from the turbo into the other side, move the intercooler over to the right, and then you could even radius out that pass side bend too so it's not quite so tight.
Just a suggestion of course.

Nice,
I love the straight shot from turbo to the cooler...
The core itself being off center because of it is all worth it!

I did it this way because there is absolutely no way of me blowing off my hot side charge pipe, the coupler would have to explode before I ever have an issue there. Fortunately its only a 90 bend depending on how you look at it, an Intercooler is a restriction no matter how you look at it, it doesnt really make a difference IMO is the air leaves a smooth tube for 2' and then meets the restriction of the Intercooler than it just blowing straight into the Intercooler.
I lose some airflow over the Intercooler the way it sits now, but nothing to be concerned about. Whatever airflow the core loses will go right around and into the engine bay to be sucked up by the snail, the left side of the core is right at the corner of the opening in my bumper. Having the hot side charge pipe go around the drivers frame rail is a bitch for many reasons, for 1 it makes fitting traction bars a bitch (which I plan to do) and the old piping route (traditional) made my oil return completely level and was not acceptable, and the whole drivers side area behind the bumper where my old piping was running through is now going to house a small Oddesy battery and eventually a 4" intake tube too, so there is a bunch of good reasons for me to do this.

well i respect function over form... sounds like you've got it all well thought out and the new piping does look really clean.
what kind of power are you making now, and are you planning to up the boost to go for more?

Car made 585/385 @23psi with E85 with the stock GSR cams and a failing OEM Ignition (.016 plug gap), I just want to get some passes out of it and drive it this summer for now. Depending on my money situation at the end of the summer, I will get a set of cams and probably a MSD Digital 7 and then schedule a retune and take 5 Gal of C16 with me and give it hell. I am looking for 135-140mph in the quarter as it sits now in a couple of weeks, unfortunately I am pretty much stuck running Drag Radials as I cannot afford a set of $1300 axles right now.

Do you have serious tractions issues?

I was dyno'd on an long gear LS tranny and my BFG's were dead hooking 3rd in December, I have since switched to a Type-R 1,2,3rd Gear and a GSR 4,5 and a 4.40 FD which should make traction a bitch but I have also added a nice Boost Controller setup in which I control boost by individual gear or even RPM, so I can shift at Wastegate spring pressure for a second and then ramp the boost up as traction allows me. I have not driven it yet with the new tranny, I only have 185/65/14's on the car right now.

Ah. That is the only reason I don't like fwd cars. When you boost you loose tractions.

Oh believe me, I know what you mean about the traction bar. I also fit 99-00 fog lights too, lol.

It looks like you have it pretty well thought out though. Hope you have a cage and a rev limiter, you're going to need it. :-p
Oh and M&W with T1 trigger cam FTW!

Thats where it gets interesting and seperates a good driver from a bad one, and fool driving a rwd car can hookup and go, FWD makes it challenging......

A RWD conversion is not something I am planning, ill go turbo a C5 vette before I do something idiotic like that.

I am a member on a forum for 3rd generation Accords, and one guy welded in a front end of a 4gen into the rear of a 3rd gen hatchback. Now he has a mid-rear accord.

Let's not even get started on those AWD drivers and how riddled with traction problems they are. :-p
