ive noticed recently that sometimes when i am sitting idle, in drive, i hear an annoying rattle sound from the back of my car.
its only sometimes.
i dont know if its my exhaust possibly? maybe its loose? im not sure. any ideas? i looked around the interior, its nothing inside, it has to be something outside ya know?

Loose heatshield on your exhaust. Almost guaranteed. Just jack up your car and continue to hit parts with a hammer or something until you get your rattle. Then either put a metal clamp on it, or just cut it off!

Hey man theres rumor that the early 90's nissan's have a common problem with the gas tank straps and over period of time become loose and rattle. I think im having the same problem now actually and will eventually get a chance to take a look at it after graduation.

My Sentra does that. If it's not a shield on the exhaust, check the shields around it. The rattle on my car is caused by a loose shield near the gas tank.

check the exhaust hangers/mounts also, i know my MSP has ****ty hangers and the exhaust sways and rubs up against the shields underneath which makes a really annoying noise.

The silver shield on there. Usually they rust and rattle until you pull them off or they just fall off. The protect some areas from excess heat off of the exhaust, but they are not always required.
