Either way, I don't think the STi has trouble going in a straight line, or turning, or stopping ;)

I have love for some domestics. New Cobra is sick, sick, sick. Guy went on the rally, putting down ~450rwhp with bolt ons. I loved driving that car.

Ehemm.. I think the Ford GT can turn at 180+ with no problems.

I can enjoy my car year 'round and don't need a second vehicle to tow it around!!!!!!

Sure, I'd probably never see 9's or 10's, but I can do high 11's all the time: on my way to work, dinner, movie in ALMOST ANY conditions outside with the right tires.

But my message is simple: if you have a fast car, run it hard! :finga:

the 787B was Mazda's Entry into LeMans in 91'. It was an NA rotary powered rocket, I belive it made somthing like 600bhp. More importantly it is the ONLY Japanese produced car to EVER win the 24 hour race. LeMans saw it fit to create rules that elminated non-otto engines in 92'.

On a completly diffrent note... I thought this thread was for some **** talking.. I'm pretty disappointed so far.

sorry, but i can't stand the whole "i can turn better than you" argument. sounds like owners trying to make up for their lack of tourque. i can turn really good too when i'm doing it at 30mph! i could care less about turning abilities, you aren't doing sharp turns when racing on the highway or the street, and definetly not at the drag strip. what good is it to be able to turn well when you're getting you butt kicked on the street?

now an sti and possibly a wrx if done correctly...those are good imports to me. they are quick and have good handling. that i like. if i had the cash i would get an sti, i've always loved that car.

i am not a fan of the evo. i have driven it and i think it was very hyped up with it arrived here and the car is a disappointment compared to what was expected (and seen in japan), especially for the price tag. i'd take my srt over an evo any day. it's sad when one of the most sought after cars finally comes to the us and can get its butt handed to it by a 20k neon (yes it really can. i beat two evos when i was stock, and i wasn't stock for long).

Im gonna have to go ahead and disagree with this comment!! What are you basing your hatred off of? I hope its not because some of them are slow or have the ability to be riced out? I mean **** dude, look at all the domestic rice. you have the great mustangs with the gtr badges on them, the cavaliers, sunfires and neons with some of the worst body kits ever and all in an attempt to look more import-esque. Atleast with a honda you have the ability to swap in one of their higher output motors and walk all over the above mentioned domestic rice. Oh and the honda will still be a reliable daily driver. i also must point out that the only reason the car you are driving exists is because of the pressure that was put on the domestic market by the import market. Its whole concept is based off of import cars.. you know low displacement turbo. Why hate? i can see how you may dislike some of the people and the stupid things they do to the cars but if thats the case you have to hate all cars, every car will have a goup of people that do dumb things!!!

Since this is the ish talking thread i have to ask. Are you aware that your car essentially is an import? The parent company of dodge is daimler/chrysler... a predomenantly german owned and operated company. Also, they have no assembly plants in the united states, only in mexico and canada, as I understand it. By those standards the hondas you all love to hate so much are more american than your srt-4 because atleast they are assembled in the usa.

the srt-4 is built in the belvidere, il plant. all neons are built there. last time i checked, illinois was part of the us. i think it might have been one of those red states, but technically it's the same country.

i don't hate hondas. i hate their owners. there's nothing wrong with the cars themselves. there's something definetly wrong with the fast and furious morons who put 9 foot wings on them and stickers and think they have a 10 second car. i have to laugh at a car that has 100 hp and like 40 tq, i just find it amusing. but there are some fast honda's out there, but those are the ones with engine swaps and turbos. 99% of civic owners aren't going to put that kind of cash into their cars.

stichris
03-06-2005, 04:06 PM
Errr....

Seriously? I know the SRT-4 is underrated from the factory, and stuff, but I have difficulty believing it will beat an evo stock. I guess maybe if you factor out the launch, it would be closer... but what is that? THat's akin to telling you you have to turn off the boost when you race an n/a 4cyl car.

I'm glad I bouth an STi ;)

PSI Chick
03-06-2005, 04:09 PM
i ran a 13.8@101 stock, and i have an 03 that came with the smaller injectors and no lsd. given, that's not exactly common for an 03, but 04 and 05's run 13.7-13.8 stock on a regular basis.

stichris
03-06-2005, 04:12 PM
But EVOs run looow 13's stock, on a regular basis. Trap speed is about 5mph higher than SRT-4s, typically, which points to the AWD launch.

PSI Chick
03-06-2005, 04:17 PM
since when do evo's run low 13's in the 1/4 stock? every evo owner i've spoken to runs high 13's, maybe mid, but quite close to srt numbers. stock sti's run low 13's, and an stock evo or srt is no match for an sti.

Vypurr
03-06-2005, 04:40 PM
Even if they did run low 13's, that is still a drivers race. Because think about it. You are arguing over 4 10ths of a second, that is NOTHING!

And when I state my list, I am referring to overall ride. I like speed, I like turning, and I like stopping. Just because I dislike honda's doesnt mean that there arn't fast ones out there. But once you change the motor, can you really class it with other honda's? I have seen a Geo Metro run 9's. But the owner dropped in a turbo 6cyl and made it RWD. Just because that is fast, doesn't mean that I like it, or that its really a metro anymore!

For any newer car, I still belive only going fast in a straight line is akin to having sex in only one position.

With all the money pumped into modern cars to make them idiot proof and provide monumental levels of lateral grip at 9/10ths driving... ::shrug:: just foolish to have to make ANY excuse for why the car can't be made to turn at speed.

There isn't enough ish talking here. I dont like this thread but i feel i must chime in.

I'm a big fan of any car that can go fast. I don't care wether its turning, straight, backward or underwater.

I've nver considered myself all "import" or all "domestic". The both have great cars availabe. Just like they both have crappy cars availble.

Personally I like to go sideways. I try to go sideways as fast as posible. and you can do that in whatever kind of car. It's just easier in some than others.

My only real quirk is I HATE FWD. I'm not saying they're slow but I hate them. Y? because they're no fun.

*This is where the ish talking begins*
SCREW ALL FWD CARS. If its not AWD or RWD I want nothing to do with it and if you don't like it, blow me! Its not a true sports car if its FWD.

haha. STORY.

im in eric's (96Stang) car about a week ago and we are driving down the BLVD (RT. 1 South) just miding our own buisness. We'll we get to welsh road and there is a clean looking red Prelude next to us. I think to myself "i like the way that car looks". Then the young punk driver sees a mustang next to him and decides to do the ricer rev. I was completely blown away by this and had to bust out laughing. And this wasnt a chuckle...i stuck my head to the window...looked at the kid...and laughed in his face saying "your cool cause you drive a front wheel drive car....please let me see you smoke those front tires and go nowhere". He proceded to act hardass and rev it.

So the light turns green and the kid lauches....doing exactly what i told him he would do...then he grips up and goes. BTW we didnt stoop to his level and go with him. He must have felt so stupid.

Thats my story...it probably isnt funny...but at that time, it was

Who cares about driveline loss when you can still accelerate faster than 90% of the cars on the road??

Who cares about driveline loss when you launch and watch the passengers neck snap back??

Why do people put hood clips on their stock hoods? I can't accuse just the domestic guys of this i know. However, I just saw a fox body mustang with hood clips. I don't get it. Is the car so fast that the stock hood latch can't keep the wind from blowing it off or is the car just built that poorly?

dude, those hood clips add 10 horsepower... everyone who's cool does it

with that said, i'm not cool

Ya, I hate that too. Clips on a stock hood.
I run clips, but I have no latch and a hood that weighs like 6lbs.

I'm mostly a track noob. Ran once in a 17 sec monte carlo. Ok twice but the first run didn't count (don't ask). So this'll be my first in the scoob, but it's less pressure on virgins cuz you don't have to worry about doing a stellar burnout!

it is a nervous time... you're contending with getting the lights right before the other person so you have more time to prepare, meanwhile all eyes are on you... and once you're good with the lights, you have to concentrate on the launch!

but in the end, you're racing legally :)

I got love for the NICE imports, other than that, i despise most of them...

List of nice imports:
- EVO
- STI (some regular WRXs)
- Silvia
- TT Supra
- DSM
- R32
- Turbo Rotary's

List of Hated Imports:
- Civic (Even the SI/SI-Rice)
- Non TT Supra
- Accord
- S2000 (unless modded)
- Lancer
- Sentra
- Non-Turbo RX-7
- RX-8 (Dropped the ball...:()
- RSX (sorry, have yet to see a fast one!)
- Non-Turbo Eclipse
- Celica (Made for secretary's!)

Impartial:
- GTI (among various VWs)

More to come as I think of them!

Hmmmm......i know that i consider the SRT-4 an import, or at least some kind of an attempt. I have seen some VERY fast rsx's. As for SI's, i know of one certain SI (and i know lots of people on this forum know of the car) around the tristate area that would literally blow your doors off. But anyhow, its pretty cocky of you to start bashing cars that some fellow members own and take great pride in on these forums. Personally, i despise NEON srt-4's, but if thats what you like, then so be it......its not my place to bash it. :finga:

I was simply answering the questions of the thread. I listed the cars that i like and dislike. I never said that i despise them, just that I would not want to own them. There are always exceptions, such as a turbo civic or a blown camaro, they are not the ordinary cars that you see everyday, and i dont really consider them a civic or a camaro anymore, they are customized cars. I was simply reffering to each car in its stock form. No offense to the owners of those cars, i simply do not like them. If you dont like the SRT, then thats fine. I like it so I drive it. You like your car, so you drive it. It doesnt really matter.

I will only say this, saying you will never own or drive a certain type or brand of car is foolish and shortsighted. What you like now may not be what you like in the future, or what you liked in the past. :wiggle:

Again...I never said that I would never drive one. My exact words were "I would not want to own them", meaning that if I had a choice of what car to buy. Now if in a few years I want a car to put massive highway miles on going to and from work, I would definatly buy myself a civic. But right now while I am young and stupid, I want something with more pep!

Hmmmm.....you never said you despise them, interesting, have a look at your quote below, and if you continue to read down a little more you will see that the list of cars you dislike or wouldnt want to drive is so eliquently titled "list of HATED imports". But hey, if you never said anything of the sorts then i stand corrected. :wiggle:

... and you got wise my friend.

I remember reading COUNTLESS articles in Motor Trend, Road and Track, Car and Driver, EVO Magazine (European mag,) Sport Compact, about how the EVO/STI were being compared to Porsche and Ferrari. Porsche and Ferrari, how can this be? However, after every comparision test, the numbers always tell the true story. How the STI outbraked many of the exotics, how the EVO out-slalomed cars costing $100,000. I said, wow, these cars must be something.

Then I test drove both. I was simply astonished. Now I get it! You can never truely apreciate what has been writen about these cars until you experience them first hand. I drive my friend's 290whp WRX, I drive my mechanics soon to be 400whp STI, and I'm in the EVO daily. There are simply no other cars on the planet that do what these "little" cars do for the price. Even better... in Europe, there are faster versions of both (FQ340, FQ400, STI WR1.)

And then they get good gas milage, have low maintenance costs, easy to tune, can go 200,000 miles without a hitch, and can be had for $30,000. There're not the sexiest cars on the planet, however, if you don't have a spare Porsche to enter into the Gumball Rally, either one of these cars should do fine.

If you're one of those people out there that skoff at these Ferrari killing "rice burners," just take a test drive. The only thing you have to lose, is a habit of pre-judging a phenomenal car. ;)

Believe us... a world of automotive journalists and automotbile enthusiast across the glob cain't be wrong.

I agree! Except I get ~13mpg. My right foot's fault, though. Plus I MAY be running a bit rich. Hahaha. And I wouldn't confidently say 200k miles without a hitch. Have any of the most recent, US market cars gone close to that? Maybe if kept stock...

Anyway, who wants to spend $13k+ for teh gumball, join the AKA Rally - $3k, and just as much, if not more fun!

Shameless plug! www.akarally.com

Included this year are:

Hotels

awards banquet in Key West
2 motorsports events
non-motorsports event
club parties
etc, etc

Trust me, with what we have planned, it's a bargain. Check out the final hotel:
