Not knocking it, but you should be faster. I ran 12.6xx's without cams on a crappy tune. You should be able to wring some more out of it. Unfortunately your stock clutch and trans are the weakest links at this point.

W_Evo

Yeah I was hoping it would be faster but i'm going to get a new tune once my intercooler arrives.

Dude that 5sp trans will take a beating.

You also had a RS, was it a IX? If so thats why. I do agree that his flash needs to be updated.

ETS 4" core with 3" piping.

That was my first guess. ETS products have exploded in popularity for the evo lately.

as redline mentioned, doesn't the iX respond a little bit better than the 8? have a bit more hmpf in the 9

The 9 responds better to mods in everyway to the 8's due to the MIVEC and the different turbo hotside.

Actually it the compressor side (cold side)The 9 responds better to mods in everyway to the 8's due to the MIVEC and the different turbo hotside.

the 05 evo 8 had the same size hot side as the 9, however the compressor is slightly bigger and the mivec helps. The IX has 10 more horsepower and 13 more lbs of torque.

My clutch is toast that may be why it ran slower, exedy twin is going in on thursday.

Did you get it through the GB pricing on Evom? I see ExtremePSI has them "cheap" also. After all I have read about the ACT HD, I think I am going to sell it and go Exedy twin, let me know your first impressions and noise.

I don't know how you pulled..what..1.77, thats why you need a new clutch. Good luck again!

yeah geez what a piece, LOL! When I was younger I wanted to get a vette so bad, then I started playing grand turismo and I was like wow rally racing is sweet so I got into the evo. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with you soon with a couple things I'm adding.

I'm probably only adding a ported tb and an under drive pulley so don't expect me to be much faster than a 12.2 at the end of the year.....well unless I add a torque convertor and run some high 11s

PM me the exact part number please, I am searching now and the best I could come up with in a GB is $1490 shipped? I want to make sure it's the same one and if so go elsewhere.

damn, I really don't get how people pay 1.5k for a clutch then labor for install. The evo is killer with prices.

I am debating selling my BN ACT and buying one, read the reviews on the Exedy Twin and then tell me what you think? After reading so many ACT horror stories with high RPM Lockout I am seriously about to ditch it just for peace of mind after a $750 clutch install just to find out "Oh ****!"

The Evo is only expensive when it comes to the Drivetrain! Its the cost you have to pay.

I got a twin disc in mine and pulling 1.67 sixty foots spinning some out of the hole. Good clutch def worth the money. I had a act and ended up have to get a new four gear in the trans cause it wouldnt let me shift into gear.

the clutch is the only thing i paid for installation, the drivetrain is expensive so I paid sean ivey to do it so I would be done right. Everything else I did myself. If you ever get an exedy you'll know why they cost so much. Its an amazing clutch, it slips when you need it too ad you can make it grap if you launch it.

Driving home from Ivey in rush hour traffic it might as well be broken in.

twin disk are great. My evos just bolt ons now, still on the stock clutch withy 44k on it since it is the daily. I just put a powertrain tech twin disk in my awd laser though, best investment ever spent. I did blow apart my transfer case launching it down wildwood though ahhaha, gotta get use to slipping it out progressivily

you better break that thing in the correct way if you want to get proper life out of it. I've seen single and twin disc clutchs start slipping after a couple thousand miles (or less) because the owner didn't wait to break it in.:screwy:

I'm on my 2nd exedy twin disc, first one was the organic twin, it lasted over over 45k and still had life left when I pulled it. I put about 1200 STREET (not highway) miles on it to bed all the friction surfaces correctly as the manf. suggested.

I stepped up to their HD discs this time which are ceramic-metalic and require less break in but honestly I don't like it as much as the organic because its louder and the engagement isn't as smooth. Its still a great clutch anyway you slice it though.

05-20-2008, 03:01 PM
is it the ceramic disk or organic? Ceramic requires no break in, just some hard launches

yeah, definitely going to the BR tranny gear/syncro upgrades to have a little bit more piece of mind. Feel the grinding in gears already at 30k.

The HD is ceramettalic I believe..I run the same one, and rush hour from ivey is most likely enough break in..Stop and go like 3-400 times, exedy says 300 engagements so should be good.

W_Evo
05-22-2008, 07:54 PM
yeah the HD is ceramic and thats what I have, requires no break in. Even ivey said I could drive out the shop and do awd donuts and have no problem. Track was closed because of rain too.
