This is a short vid of E36T2 and myself at an open track event, running Pocono North. The Vid is being shot from the E36 BMW, my car is the silver Sti.

In short yes. However if you limit yourself to a few DE's a year and you don't get to crazy with things, you can get your thrills without dumping thousands.
If you have a good performance street tire (not talking Mich. Pilot Sports necessarily) brakes with at least upgraded pads, you can get out there. Costs about $200 for a day at Pocono with NASA/PDA. Go out with a instructor and at least see what it is like, you may hate it or you might enjoy it a lot and get sucked into it all. But depending on what you budget you could get a few events in with minimal wear on your car. This is as long as you don't, hit someone else, hit a wall, and or flip, at that point its gets pricey for all.
I hope that helps.

cool video, you captured some of my point by skills.
Good driving, pretty smooth, but you made a rookie mistake. when you go off the track is important not to try to get back on right away or you will do what u did. once you hit the pavement your tires regained there grip and you snapped around again, went off and almost hit that car. Next time when you go off it is important to stay straight slow down get the car collected and look in your mirrors to see if it is safe to re-enter the track. I just don't want you to mess your car up or any one else's.

I don't disagree with your statement, he still is very much so a rookie. His right side tires were still on the rumble strip, which led him to believe that he could re-enter the track without any problems. This clearly wasn't the case as we can see in the video. How is the SRT4 treating you guys?

I don't disagree either, its one of those things when you look back on it you find those moments, and you say next time this or that happens I am going to do this.... And if I did slow down and collect the car probably would of ended up back on the track quicker.
The SRT-4 is awesome we just won our race at Sebring, but we need an aero package for the car, we are designing one but its taking longer than expected, Also we bought come coupe which will be at mid ohio on may 17-20. here is wat happens when its a high speed turn. One time at VIR my brother was driving his Subaru WRX. And one turn before the oak tree turn which is a high speed turn he dropped some tires off the road tried to get back on and the car just snapped around. He hit a tire wall at 100+, the car was in pretty bad shaped. Also the force of the impact broke the back of the seat (it was a stock seat) and he flew back into the back seat. He had 5 point harness but they only work if your are moving forward and have the back of the seat to hold you in. Now my dad will not allow us to race in car that does not have a race seat, 5 point harness and a HANS device.

Yea next time you need to just drive straight and slow down then re-enter, whether or not you wheels were on the candy canes or not, i have seen terrible accidents cause from this.
also you were a good 3-5 feet off of your apex, bring that in and you will see a drop in your times
You should come out to a viper days and get real instruction, not like the kinda at the hpde events. Viperdays.com

Oh I know I missed the apex, it was one of those moments where you fall out of sync and you just end up in the dirt. This wasn't a HPDE this was a practice race.

i wasn't referring to the in car vid, i was talking about then they filmed you from out side.
when you say practice race, were you aloud to pass in the turns, and do you race competitively
I freaking love North Course for some reason. Good fun for my 240 as you get to use the HP on the Nascar portion, and then the handling on the infield...although it's a been tricky for me getting out of the infield and onto the nascar part...with such a small turbo, it takes a lot of throttle modulation to get her around and pointed straight without spinning the tires
Not to thread jack, but last year I was there (Septermber I beleive). It was in the afternoon (after lunch), and we had started the first session. I ahd my friend Joe in the car with me (he wanted to see how it rode) and we were on that short stretch headed back parrallel with the nascar section. Well at that corner they had JUST thrown the checker (mean while this is pretty well into 3rd gear wot)...Guy in front gets on brakes, and I goto follow.....
...and I have no brakes...
I went sailing straight off (which at Pocono is a disaster...bigass holes in the grass, and a blessing....no walls)...tore my bumper and lip off, and bent a rear toe arm. Ended up blownig an o ring out between the two halves of my caliper....a 30 cent viton o ring....was still fun though, but at the time it wasn't!

Was allowed to pass in the turns and yes I do race competitively, JLB725 and I run with NASA. True I am a rookie to the competitive aspect of it, none the less not a complete rookie as in first time tracker. The weird thing for me with that practice was, I had never run the north course in that direction, I had run long course coming the other way and typical north course clockwise direction. But never that way so it was a interesting day reversing the turns.

I have run Pocono, Summit Point, Shenadoah and Lime Rock... This year we are both planning to run the Glen, VIR, NJMP and Mid Ohio.
