View Full Version : My Wheels Got Screwed

My buddy told me it was safe to park outside his house since it was 1AM, so I park there. I come out at 4-5AM and thought my car was stolen. Turns out, it got towed. :(

They tow using a dolly and lift your car up by the wheels, so I only checked the outside of the rims for damage since I assumed that's where it would occur. So yesterday I went out to wash all the crap off my wheels when I found this:

Annoying thing is that when I showed up to pick up my car the night it got towed, the guy tells me "I've never seen an AWD Lancer before, you must've done a lot of work to it." Great. Then I told him I was worried that my rims were damaged because they were expensive. The guy asks "How much did these cost? $100 each? $150?" Wonderful! If only it was light out and I bothered to check the center of the rims.

So I guess my question is, where can I find a shop that can restore my wheels to original condition? The photos I have are only of the worst gash on the one wheel. All four wheels received damage, just that the other three aren't as severe. I'm not even going to try contacting the tow company since I highly doubt they'll front me $2500 for a new set of wheels. Any suggestions?

I don't know of any wheel repair shops that can repair forged wheels. That's a good question. I have a nice gouge in my LM GT4's that could use some TLC.

Google the name Wheel Collision and you'll see there's a shop not too far from here that has a great reputation for this kind of work. Question is, will the towing company pay for the damage?

What you NEED to worry about is your CENTER DIFFERENTIAL after being towed on a dolly..They probably did alot more damage then just your wheels. Do you not know of the dangers of towing an AWD vehicle on a dolly?

The dolly lifted up the rear wheels and the tow truck lifted the front, so all four wheels were off the ground. I was worried they only towed by two wheels the first night too, but then I found out they only tow with all four wheels lifted. If they only towed by two wheels I'd only be sittin here with 2 damaged wheels instead of four. :P

From a fellow a) Volk owner and b) NEPA resident, you can definitely get them to pay for a portion.

Also, I think this is my first post in something like a half a year.
