The website says the track is available for rent, anybody got an idea as to how much it'd be to rent this sucker for the afternoon? It'd be nice to have a TST track day. :) At least to hold us over till millville's track opens up which I believe is sometime in june or july.

Holy crap, they finally got permits to run auto's? I thought it was never going to happen. I wonder what has changed?

I saw moto's racing on it in october 07! It's great to see more and more course's opening, and with Thunderbolt being booked for years to come. Englishtown can be a cool place for the common folk to gather!

Plastik Racer

It'd be a nice place for grip cars to have fun. Something like club looses drift events just with griping, maybe time attack.

how is that any different than any other track? i doubt they'd let anyone out there without the same type of instruction that every other track requires.
regardless, the track really doesnt interest me much. i did drive it during a mazda driving event a couple years ago, and it was in the rain. good times :)

Never raced on something like that before. I'd definitely be there.

Thanks I was trying to figure how to spell that. If you've headed to any of the drift nights you'd know pretty much your gonna hit the wall. Everyone's gotta learn some how, most people would be scared to scratch their new paint jobs anyways. :)

ThunderBolt Raceway is starting to really look good. NASA will be holding HPDE there for anyone looking to get their racing license. No more long drives to Pocono raceway for us. :)

So cars can race on that?

Yea its got two car tracks inside and like 3 cart tracks. If you looking into SCCA and NASA they have scheduled HPDE which is just an open track day. Its pricey at around $250+ but you get lunch and the track all day long.

Also note that the millvile track will have 2.5+ miles and the englishtown one only have 1.3 miles of track.

I heard a rumor that in order to race your car has to be fully caged.

FocusDude
04-22-2008, 06:19 PM
^^^ Depending. I know the NJ Troopers mandate every car in a rally-cross requires roll cage, fire suppression, hans, etc. to enter. That pretty much put the ca bash on off road rally cross's in NJ for the past 3+ years!

When I was watching the moto's run the road course back in sept/oct of '07 the speed coming around 11 was crazy, and on the opposite side of the wall is the main exit out of the complex- just seems to easy for a car to come barreling through the wall into exiting traffic.

"Eddie,

For our free trial days we are requiring basic road racing safety equipment. You will be given an instructor to ride along with you, since we don't know what your level of experience is. If the car you bring is a basic street car that you drive to the track with all proper street safety equipment then the only required safety equipment is a snell SA-2000 helmet as well as long pants, shoes with no holes and at least a tee shirt (no sleeve less shirts). If the car is a street car and it has a roll cage then we would like the car to have 5 point harnesses. If it is a race car then it needs all required safety equipment from a window net to on off switches. Basically if it is a race car then it needs to have all the safety equipment that the series you run in requires. So if it's a NASA race car then it has to meet all NASA safety requirements. If you have any further questions please feel free to email me back at etownroadcourse@aol.com

that pretty much sums up the question i wanted answered :)
still doesnt answer how many runs, unless its like 5 cars on track at the same time with some distance between them when they go out.

My buddy emailed them and they said there wont be more then 6 cars on the track at once. They also said we should get 4 runs with a instructor....good enough for me. I should be there on friday with a couple of friends.

ive been busting my ass all week trying to get my car together for this... still not 100% though. i put the motor together and dropped it in, along with the whole drivetrain, i still need to get the exhaust welded together and weld some nuts in for the trans Xmember to bolt up to (rusted out threads lol) as well as other small stuff like reset the distributor shaft (off by a tooth LOL) and set base timing, put the wideband back in, ...all kinds of crap :(

but im aiming to be at englishtown early early sunday morning 1st in line for a few free runs around the road course :) what days do they do test and tune there? it would be sweet to try out the road course and then do some pulls down the strip as well

Having already driven most of that course at speed I am going to pass on this one.

For me, it isn't worth getting up early, wasting gas driving to & from, and then waiting there for who knows how long to make 4 laps with an instructor...

There were no instructors in the car with you, pretty much no instruction at all to be honest. Not much effort was made to group cars, aside from putting the experience road course guys together so they could have at it. Still not a bad time, the trick was to let the car in front of you get some distance on the straightaway, and then go through the curves at your own pace. That is unless you were the lucky car to lead your group of six...

FocusDude

I read on another board that it kinda sucked, a z06 was stuck behind a slower stang- but if u were lucky to get out front or keep the pace following it wasn't that bad a day.

Apparently the stang was setup for the strip, slicks in the back and skinnies up front? Who the hell let that dude on a road course? A focus blew a spark plug, probably would have been me :P

FocusDude

Also from another site I read this info about the track.
Other info, Track rental during the week is $3000 with 30-45 car max and only 6 cars on track due to insurance. Helmet required and long pants required. They also will be offering a 8 hr driving school to get a "track" license for $225. This will allow you to run when they have track days for $125 for 6 hours. Raceway Park will be revamping their website in the upcoming weeks.

i took the rx7 out on street tires. i just went to hang but got asked to instruct a few times.
it closed at 2pm and then i got to go on the track by myself pretty much.
anyone got pics of my rx7?
95 degrees yeserday. ouch. my cars water at the end of 30 minutes was 235 and oil temp was 240.

good time. hot as fug though! i was the only one there racing a pickup truck hahaha

it turns out my 240 was not exactly ready, and my friend's wasnt either lol

so i brought my little low rider truck and put her to work. i let my whole group go infront of me because my truck was obviously the slowest vehicle.... which was a mistake. i didnt want to slow everyone else down, but it turns out i had to let off the whole time :/

but yea. good time, i just wish i had my car there. but the truck did get a bit sideways with some effort haha

oh and there was some seriously nice cars there. porsche viper vette pace car ferrari, i really liked the black s14, also was diggin a couple s/c mustangs...

yeah i was going to bring out kaleo55 ka-t powered s14 to see what it will do but i figure there were going to be group runs to accomodate so many people.

frosti108
06-08-2008, 06:39 PM
yea the group runs kinda sucked with the whole no passing thing, but hey im not complaining since it was free. i was stuck behind someone in a regular WRX. i would basically just completely stop, so i could get on it through some of the course... then i would get back to the subaru infront of me and i think they had an instructor in it because the passenger kept putting his hand out the window signaling for me to get off their ass HAHAHA

before i went out, i advanced the distributor a little to give it a little extra ka-juice, and the truck actuallly broke off a couple nice 2nd gear drifts for me :) but i think it was too much for her so i didnt get back in line. im pretty sure if you kept getting back in line, you could run atleast 5 sessions of 5 or 6 laps. not a bad day, but the truck wasnt really up to it

I saw that thing pull in, and as was said assumed it was just some kid's aftermarket creation. I did notice that it sounded quite a bit like a suzuki boulevard cruiser though.
