Arai RX7 Corsair. They are pricey like usually 600-700 depending on design. But they are great flowing helmets and just fit right. It all goes back to whether you are a Shoei or Arai head though.. haha Try both, some fit Shoei helmets better and some Arai. Either brand has different size cheek pads available and washable removable foam. All the parts for either are fully replaceable, as well.

Oh I don't know about you guys either but I rock ear plugs or ear buds if i'm breaking the law and listening to the ipod. To knock down on the wind noise on the highway. The more air the helmet seems to flow the louder it is when you're cruising pretty good.

Shoei Joust/RF1000, love the micro visor vent feature, its no fun to have your visor fly wide open @ 60mph plus. Also my bike has no fairings or wind screen, but this helmet is nice and stable, no lift at speed and good anti-fog vent.

HJC makes the shells for Icon.

If you ask me, their quality is trash (much like all of their other gear).

ok at least i wasn't the only one! my dad swore by them when he had his shop i hated them nothing about them i liked! but at least i feel better that i wasnt the only one! but i didn't know HJC made there shells

Blaise
12-08-2008, 01:53 PM
Yes, HJC makes the shells but Icon handles everything else. It's 'street' gear that looks 'cool.' You won't ever see a track rider or racer in Icon gear (they don't even make 1/2pc suits). I've seen a few folks go down in their more expensive leather gear and it holds up OK (certainly way better than nothing) but their less pricey stuff kinda just falls apart (even before you crash at times).

I really like how the 2nd street summer cruise gear for all the people with chromed out busa's is typically an Icon helmet (strapped to the back), Icon field armor and tshirt/jeans.

peteyturbo

agreed, Icon is for newbs or dropped busas with chrome spikes..Gear is to save your ass, not get you ass..Yes, HJC makes the shells but Icon handles everything else. Not a big fan of any of the Icon gear either. The quality just isn't there, and they use thin foam padding in most of their jackets and pants.

just got my girl an airframe claymore for christmas

Icon does a good job with styling the women's gear. Had to get my girl the pink icon merc textile jacket and gloves. Not the best gear, but I'd rather have her in a textile icon jacket than a t-shirt.

you'd be surprised, the lids actually test very well. only problem ive had with mine was the plastic snaps that hold in the liner wear over time, no biggie i just run my thumb over them before i put it on.

The lids themselves are made by HJC as I mentioned earlier. It's everything else that I don't trust.

first helmet was a hjc held up good traded it with the bike
then got an icon
same time my friend got a hjc
the icon lasted a long time with no proplem till i crashed but it kept my brain in my helmet so it did its job
the friend that had the hjc at the same time had the visor get stuck down and he had nothing but proplems with it
i got a new bike and the gave me a icon with it use it as a passenger/spare helmet
since i crashed my icon i got a kbc
noisy helmet but again lasted 2 years till the latching mechanism on the visor broke (my fault)
then this past season i got the carbon hjc
http://webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/hjc/carbon/hjc-ac-12-carbon-helmet.gif
and so far this has been the best helmet ive had its noticeably lighter. great airflow. lil noisy yet but i can live with that

i remember a test done awhile ago between alot of helmets ..
this isn;t the one i read but still a nice read

She's used it 2 times in 2 years  And I thought about getting something to match the bike until I realized I'd be going from a red bandit to a yellow triumph daytona some day and said forget it I'll just get what's on sale.

Just ordered my Gmax GM68 in Matte Black. I thought about designs, but the matte just looks bamf.

The rear LED's are real cheesy, but I guess they could save your life!

looks a lot like my lid! and all the lights and stuff will help you in the long run people will see you (well thats what my dad says to me..lol)

It's too trendy and their stuff is looking more ghetto and hood daily. I dont need pitbulls and Philly all over me. Plus my helmet is kinda getting ruffed up, its older I got it back in 05 when it first came out. It's getting be be time to replace. I'd buy Icon again, but no more graphics, snell rated only.

the picture doesn't really do it any justice. it looks a lot cleaner in person and the metallic flake in the helmet is second to none. i love the second one a lot too because it is a little less flashy, but it's not the extreme, so it doesn't have Alcantara. that's about the only difference between them though

always loved the gambler

me too, i picked up the double gray because it was the newest model and matched the bike well, but do you think the gambler is getting too old? i'm pretty sure it came out in 2006. i just have a feeling that i'm gonna pick up the gambler for christmas, then all kinds of new awesomeness will come out for 2010, and i'll be stuck.

definatelly noticably lighter than most, stays snug/stable even on the highway!

ive been riding a long time in pa and de and always rode squid style (no helmet law) and just started wearing gear the beggining of last season so this is the only helmet ive worn and can comment on but i like how it fits/feels and friends who always wear helmets have used it on occasion and also loved it!

yea, i didnt even think of wind noise when i described it!
since mine has a camera/microphone built into it, i was gonna make some kind of elastic skirt under the padding i can slip my head through and would block wind from coming up past my neck/chin area!
its worth a shot... it would make videos way quieter!

Doesn't matter what we think. What matters is how it fits you. If they have Snell endorsements, chances are they'll save your head. The important part is fit. Different companys make different size shells for different size heads. This is definitely one of those things you need to go try on in person and wear around the store for 10 minutes or so.

I love my GM68S. The lights on the back are a nice feature. It's quite comfy on my head.

At speed with the vents open, it DOES whistle. Not too annoying for me, but you may not like that. For the price, I would buy and recommend one as a first helmet. I would not spend a ton of money on a helmet (I would get a safe one, but not the top of the line). Save some money so you can get all the other safety gear that come with riding!

One of my buddies just picked up the Bell star helmet a few months ago. It's very nice and fits my head well. I haven't actually ridden with it on so I can't help with noise, airflow, viability, etc, but based on how it fit and the seemingly good quality I would recommend. Plus it comes with a badass felt lined travel bag!

I use a Shark Fusion Tec on the track. The lack of popularity made it more appealing to me than the typical Suomy's, Shoei's etc. I knew Shark made quality helmets, and this helmet doesn't disappoint!

Actually that Roof Boxer 8 is ECE 22.05 approved. ECE 22.05 testing is more stringant that Snells M class. AMA motocross only accepts Snell M2005 or above or ECE 22.05 as well. Here is some info about ECE 22.05 vs Snell http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/index.html
