O.K. guys,
The up coming GT-500 is nice, but now the new Z06 is here!!! This puts the Vette in a completely different category.

Price: $65,000
Engine:
Type: V8
Displacement 427cu inch (7011cc)
Power 505 @6200rpm
Torque 475 @4800rpm
Redline 7000

Performance:
0-60 3.7 seconds (In first gear!!)
¼ mile High 11s* @ 122-127mph
Top Speed 198mph
Weight 3132 lbs
*some numbers may vary*

These are supercar numbers ladies and gentlemen and can be had for (only) $65,000 grand. I was thinking of a Carrera in the next few years when I pay the EVO off, but this new Z06 Vette is freaking ridiculous. It’s pretty incredible where automobiles are going in terms of performance. It’s numbers are on par with some of the fastest production cars on Earth. Gas mileage is 19/26!! Better than EVO/STI!!!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v113/BorgChaser/C6-Z06-TOP-BACK-VIEW.jpg

So if you guys had the cash, what would you go for… the Z06, the CarreraS, the GT-500, etc. What car would you get at this price?:help:

This is hard to believe with a thirsty 7 liter in there making over 500 horses. I guess if you drive very conservativly, it may be possible,

Personally, I'd go with the new Z06...it's what i'm looking at to replace this in 2 yrs (unless something new/unique comes along, like the Chrysler Firepower  ).

I started a general thread about the pricing a month ago.

So basically, you are saying that you can afford a 65K car? How about you buy an STi instead, and buy me one with the leftover cash? :)

Most of magazines said 18,19 city and 25,26 hwy. I couldn't believe but it's true. Another thing is that Z06 is slightly lighter than EVO/STi.

I think the overall shape of this car is awesome. The bulging front fender "shoulders" and how the rear end hangs back reminds me of the early 70s style corvette.

Yeah, this is the first time another car has caused me to question purchasing a Porsche. I wonder about insurance however. I’ll have to do some research. Being the car can almost top out at 200mph and has over 500hp, I would assume we’d have to pay for that kind of performance.

In any case, this car is a bargain. Let’s check some of its competition…

Ferrari F430
Price: Over $200,000
Type: V8
Displacement: 4308cc
Power: 490 @8500 rpm
Torque: 343 @5250 rpm
Weight: 3196 lbs
0-62: 4.0 seconds
Top Speed: 196 mph
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v113/BorgChaser/2004_ferrari_f430_01_m.jpg

Porsche 911 GT2
Price: $191,000
Type: Flat 6/ Twin Turbo
Displacement: 3600cc
Power: 483 @5700 rpm
Torque: 472 @3500-4500 rpm
Redline: 6750 rpm
Weight: 3175
0-60: 3.9 seconds
Quarter mile: 12.0 @ 121 mph
Top Speed: 196 mph
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v113/BorgChaser/911gt204_02.jpg

I’m trying to think of other cars with similar performance numbers, but I think this is the Z06’s main competition. The Viper also…

IMO people who buy porsches or ferraris buy the car because of the name and status symbol it represents more then the performance values.

I agree. A 360 Modena is not a value at all when compared to a Viper, Z06 or Ford Gt. But it is a Ferrari....and a vette will never be a Ferrari.

How many corvettes do you see every day. 5? 10? How many Viper's, Lambo's, 911 Turbo's or Ferrari's do you see a month? You're paying for some exclusivity.

I doubt anyone will be able to one for MSRP. The dealers are going to put huge mark-ups on these or what they call it "adjusted market value." You'll be lucky to get one for under 75k. IF anyone does get ahold of one at MSRP, I bet they're just going to flip it to make a profit.

MSRP is 64500, dealers will mark the price up from there. It was the same way when the 2003 Cobra came out, as well when the EVO and STI first hit the market.

If you search eBay, you find people selling their slot for the car or dealers selling slots for what you pay over MSRP....

Actually, there are tons of guys on the Vette and Z06 forums that already have theirs ordered for MSRP. It just takes a few phone calls to a good dealer.

This car is the best deal to come out...EVER. I've already started the planning to buy one. I can't pass one of these up.

I sat in a guy I knows Carrera GT the other night. Very nice interior, but for 430k less, I'll take a Vette that will whoop its ass.

I went to see my cousin yesterday who has leased a new corvette every 2 years for about the last 15 years of his life. He ordered a Brand New Z06. He is #51 on the waiting list. He told me the sticker price was 74,499 when he was done. I know he ordered the Chrome wheels, and the better stereo system. He said a MSRP one ( stock ) was about 67,500 from the dealer. I forget what color he ended up with though. They told him because of the different wheels he should get it around Christmas. As far as I know no one has them yet. Am I right ?

Because it's a Chevy it's not a better car? A Carrera GT is an expensive Porsche. Yes, the car is beautiful, but overall, it can't hold anything to the Z06.

Have you dealt with either car? I've had the GT in my driveway. Nice car, yes. But, to say that the Z06 is not in the majors is a bold statement. Especially when it weighs less than an F430.

Have you had the keys to the GT in your hand, been in it, friends with the owner of one? I overlooked the car very thoroughly. It is a penis on wheels. If you want sex from any girl you can find, the GT is for you.

The Z06 is a better car OVERALL. It's just as fast, much more driveable. The only thing it lacks is the pretty interior.

New Z06 went 11.6 at 125 with Car and Driver. They are horrendous drivers. Sounds on par with the GT, with a bad driver.

The new Z06 was only about a second behind the GT on the Nurburing or however you spell it.

Z06- second fastest street car to ever go on that track..... Sounds on the same level to me.

Well when u quote the 1/4 mile time and say that it was a c&d driver and that they are crappy it nit makes me think that is one of ur main points. Look at my leaf springs. Honestly this could go on forever but i am still amazed you can't say the gt is a better car. So is the c6 z06 better then a f40 to or maybe a f1 car too. Quarter mile time is to prove that the Z06 has the power and speed of a "supercar." The Z06 pulls more than 1g on the skid pad. Once again, on par with the supercars. Try to grasp the fact that the Z06, OVERALL once again, is a better car. It doesn't cost 450,000, it has similar performance numebrs, it weighs almost the same, it is a two seater, rear wheel drive, made partly of carbon fiber. Shall I keep going on?

Ok, and the Blitz Supra is far from a street car too. I'm sure that has all street legal components on it.......

Please, when you try to make an argument with me, provide a little bit of fact versus just your opinion.

Alittle more fact you are saying that the vette is close cause it weights about the same and it is partially made of carbon fiber and it pulls 1g. I am not saying that the vette isn't going to be a great car but leaving price out of it the carrera gt is a far better machine it is a better engine aka more revs and more power with less displacement. 71bhp/liter vs 107bhp/liter which sounds like a better engine to you. And 2 valves per cylinder vs 4. The gt is also the first production car to feature a monocoque chassis and engine/transmission mounts made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic, and what is revolutionary about the vette??? Oh and which car has a better power to weight ratio. And which has a higher top speed. You are still saying the vette is a superior car and u are wrong.

READ WHAT I TYPE.

I've said OVERALL, OVERALL, OVERALL, OVERALL, the Vette is a better car.

Delete the 65k from 450k and there is my reasoning. It is similar in all areas of performance for 385,000 less. It is also much more daily driveable. The GT has a ceramic clutch and is a pain in the ass to drive.

The GT is more innovative, of course. For the price of a nice sized house, it better be able to give me a blow job too.

To be honest i think you would get alot more a55 in a carrera gt then a vette and for that it is worth it lol. All i was trying to get at was take price out of it and the carrera gt is a better car. I was never saying that the vette was a cheap pos. I am saying that the gt is a better car period i don't care about price a better car. If you were at the track and two cars were there to pick form which would u take and if you say the vette and it was a equal driver to you in the gt you would get smoked.

100+ more hp is a big advantage you keep saying equal performance but there is still the more power the gt has.

Once again, the Z06 was RIGHT behind the GT on the Nurburing. It's not just about power. Many other factors influence how fast a car is around a track.

Wow. I'm away for a few days and look what happens... this thread got hot real quick.

I think there is something to be said about a car that posts 1 second behind the Carrera GT on the Nurburgring. That's not an easy feat to pull off on a 13 mile long track with over 100 twists and turns, and straight-aways that can put some hair on your azz.

Sure, the Germans and Italians have a certain quality that’s similar to long legs on Brooke Burke and some of the finest wine on Earth, however, the Z06’s numbers are very impressive for a car that can be had under 100 grand.

Let’s face it, we’re all grown men, and if we could purchase an Enzo to pull any babe on the planet, we would do so. However, I think the Z06 is a great package, is not a mindless drag car, and will be more reliable then most of the ultra exotics.

It’s certainly not a bad deal.

Here is my final point, cause we are going in circles now and it is part my fault, judging a car as a car in my mind cost is not a issue we are already talking 65 so whats another 375k between friend here. Anyway when someone says to me do you think the evo is a better car then a sti my first opinion is not well the evo costs less money so it is a better car. Never the less i think the z06 is an amazing car and the more i read about it the more i am impressed. Tho i do think it is a great car i don't think it is a carrera gt and i don't ever think it will be. I think the vette has a achieved something that merits it to be labeled a super car, tho that hurts me to say, but i must sit here amazed at chevy that they have done what they did. However if it came down to it and i could only take one car i would take the carrera gt and that is just me. Ls i know you would take the vette and we would have a very good race. To be honest in a year or two i am not saying i would not buy a z06 cause you got me thinking about it alot. I am here scratching my head why i spent 54k on a s4 when for 11k more i could have had a new z06. I really think this is gonna be a car i have to drive to feel it is one thing to have a car that is amzing it is another to have it fit your taste and for it to handle and feel like you want it. Anyway you are correct in your statement that putting money into the equation someone with only 80k to spend would be silly not to buy a z06.

They took all three cars out on the back roads of Michigan and western PA. It was raining so they got a feel of the cars in the wet. The Z06 was the only one with traction control and did very well despite ultra wide tires. I loaned the magazine to a friend today so I'll have to give you a write-up later. However, the Z06's performance against the other two was impressive, to say the least. It did better then the Viper and is thousands less. They said it has a more sporty feel vs the Ford GT and the Z06 is 100,000 grand less.

And most important... it has cup holders! Yet another reason to buy one.

EDITED at 04:35am: I'm sitting here watching Gone in 60 Seconds... and I'm at the stolen Lambo scene... :supz:

I'm gonna quote myself here...

Let’s face it, we’re all grown men, and if we could purchase an Enzo to pull any babe on the planet, we would do so.

...that about sums it up.
