View Full Version : PA Regulation on headlight color?

I prefer yellow light due to the spectrum's lack of blue, which causes the human retina to strain and fatigue.

I know there is a regulation regarding the use of blue lights on non-emergency vehicles that can be streched to cite people with blue tinted headlights... But I just got a warning for my 3100K headlights. Is there REALLY a regulation limiting the use of yellowish lights on the front of a vehicle?

I know there are codes for DOT acceptance of OE products. Is there any mention of acceptable color ranges in that regulation?

I WILL swap stock color bulbs back in my low beams... I was just under the impression the officer didn't have any real legal justification for asking me to remove them.

Thanks.

EDIT: Well, after doing the smart thing (searching) I found a similar post...

TABLE IV—REQUIRED MOTOR VEHICLE LIGHTING EQUIPMENT
(as adopted in Chapter 153)

Headlamps - 2 white, 7", Type 2 headlamp units, or 2 white 5¾", Type 1 headlamp units or 2 white 5¾" Type 2A headlamp units and 2 white Type 1A headlamp units.
2 white headlamps, Type 2B1 or Type 2D1; 4 white headlamps, 2 each Type 1C1 and Type 2C1, or Type 1A1 and Type 2A1

Now I just need to decipher the "types"
