I was asking my dad about police cruisers having dash cams in their car. He said that they don't have to have them but every one that I have seen, they all have them. So my question is, are they required to have them present in the car or not? Thanks Sarge.

No they are not required by law to have them but they prove to be very usefull in court so most police departments have gone to them for all of their vehicles.

On that note, my dad was saying to me to be careful because I was deleviring a rental car somewhere, (i work for a rental company) and the car i was driving smelled like marajuana. He said that I should be careful in case i get pulled over. He then said i can get blamed for it, and if i give the cop an attitude, (which would never happen), my dad said that the cop would have a bag of it in his pocket, and say i pulled this out of your car. thats why i was inquiring about the dash cams. if i were to take it to court, have the officer show the judge pulling the bag out of his pocket and listen to what he said. thanks for clearing this up sarge.

I have been a police officer for over 23 years in that time I have never seen and officer carry a bag of marijuana to plant on a suspect. Nor would any officer risk his job or his freedom to make a BS arrest on a minor drug charge on some kid they don't even know. Im sure your Dad means well but he's been watching to many 70's police shows. If you get a car that smells like pot let you employer know right away so you will not be accused of use by your employer thats a real threat not the police that might pull you over.

Oh I tell my employer right away. We get the same rental car back yesterday, and no matter how much ozium (spelling) i spray in the car, it seems to never want to go away. But thanks for clearing things up Sarge. :supz:
