Hey all,
Got outta the 140k mile surf green hatch and upped the anti. Got back into a MKIV GTI (1.8T slightly used). Since it's stock and all, yall know what they look like, but I just figured I'd say heeeey, and see what dubber may respond with tuning tips for this boosted motor. ;-) Happy Motoring.

DAMN, $500 for a 50hp chip!? I can install a $7 industrial pressure relief valve before my wastegate actuator and put a $0.50 zener diode on my MAP sensor and make that.
I mean, Welcome. And I wish you luck, both with the car and the lottery.
BTW: In all reality I love and respect VWs, but they are just TOO damn costly for my broke self. :(

You are the second person to say go GIAC. I live so close to NGP, I was always under the impression APR was the way to go... interesting. What's your personal experience?

Welcome!
50 horse + 80lbs of torque for $500 sounds good to me. You pay that much for an exhaust system and it doesn't give as much of a gain and then on some cars you still need a piggy back for it to run right.

Yeah, really.
My cat-back is dyno proven for 15whp and like 10ft-lbs, but then again, it's also pig rich. To make that kind of power from that 500 bucks, I'd need some hardcore tuning, and I probably STILL wouldn't hit it. 500 bucks is NOT bad.

yea from what i understand stock ecu's are often so smart that they can 'learn' the mods and often work against them, so the change u feel in the ol'butt dyno from installing the mod may lessen over time...

Unless you are evil and hide mods from your ECU- right Eric with the Cybernation Turbo??? :-D

Thanks for the warm welcome peeps. LIke I said, NEVER had experience with this motor, but a chip that can give those types of gains makes my leather seats all goopy. :-D

Apr is a great company but chip wise i would go with giac they have an awsome track record with vw's and audi's i used to be an audi guy and have heard nothing but sucess with giac. Of course apr is a good company and makes power but in my opinion giac is the way to go mainly because of This (http://awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=3&PMoI=22&PEI=2&PP=mk4gj_18t_chips.cfm&PPT=Chips&IL=GIACflashloadermk4)

From what i have read, GIAC is def the way to go.......mines only 300 but only gives me like 12 whp....and of course throttle response and higher rev limiter.....i only really have catback and intake now, so that should be my next mod....i just dont want to void the warranty completely

The good thing with the flashloader is it can be removed fully with just a few buttons and then there is no trace of it. The thing you have to worry about with audi/vw is sodered on chips not loaded software.
