I forgot I had mainly water in my radiator (Camaro) and it froze on me last week. So today I checked it out and everything seems fine (thank God... and *knock on wood*). I need to drain it today and put some Dex-Cool in there ASAP.

No idea why you would do something that stupid anyway.

Pure water or mostly water is stupid to have in a cooling system.

yeah, and there is no need to run straight water in any case- just curious why you did that

Why would you say that? Water has much greater heat retention capabilities than antifreeze.

It also has 0 lubrication properties, and as far as your statement, you really should go read up on it some more.

There is no great benefit to running straight water. Ever. Even in Florida.

Yall are a bunch of dbags tonight, huh? 20 bucks says he ran out of coolant, didnt feel like running to the store to get some, and just put water in as a temporary remedy. You all act like its blasphemy. Give me a break.

Granted, he should have REMEMBERED it was in there... but putting in straight water as a temporary thing is no big deal to me. Ive done it many many times on cars, bikes, and boats. HOW it got in there really isnt much of a mystery... why it remained there is the real question.

Sheesh, cut the guy some slack.

My previous rad was many years old and eventually sprung a large leak. I nearly ran out of coolant. I put a new radiator in, but only had the green coolant. Can't run green coolant, so I had to wait to find some DexCool. I filled it with water at the shop, to get home, and home I went. This was in September, about a week before I stopped driving the car for the winter. Hence why I forgot there was water in there as I haven't driven it for some time.

I'm planning to drain it today after work or over the weekend and fill it with DexCool.

Haha, man I forgot about that Dakota (not really). It was fun, and fast, but 12.7 wasn't fast enough for me on a 150 shot. So I decided to get something new. I'm happy with the Camaro! :)

I don't take my vehicles anywhere to "fix them." I do all the work myself and/or with the help of friends. Only things I won't touch are internal engine components as I don't have the tools or location to really work on that and gears/lockers as that has incredibly precise work that needs to be done. I'd rather take it to a shop at that point. Thanks....

I did it with a work truck I drove years ago. The thing drank water faster than gasoline. I wasn't about to put antifreeze in it if my boss wasn't going to get it fixed. :rotfl:
