I've been doing some thinking and i might change up the look for a little while. What do you guys think:

"Keep it the same!" (Wing'd):

or...

"Wingless FTW!" (Wingless):

keep the wing, solely bc thats what distinguishes it as a MSP. they are so few around, why would u want to blend in and look like a regular protege...they're all over.

stay unique....thats what its about

edit **** i agree with nop.

^^i agree.....that car in the wingless pic is clean but it takes away from the car alot.....with those wheels...i think the back half looks like a mini s4 and the front half looks like an impreza...

plus you wouldnt get as many spotted threads anymore! haha.

Wingless. Who cares if someone thinks its a regular Protege. SLEEPER lol

BradC

Justin,

I have been kicking this around for a while as well.

IMO, to pull off the wingless look, you need tint, to sit low and different wheels. I have only seen one or two pulled off well on stock MSP wheels. I don't know what it is about the stock Racing Harts, but I don't think they go well without the wing.

I think for now I am staying with the wing. If I get hit, or have the trunk sprayed for any reason, I will try it wingless for a bit. I don't want to use "bumper plugs", I think it looks tacky using them to fill the holes (there are a few under the wing).

Also, from polling peole, it seems that car-guys are around 50/50, but women say keep the wing, lol.

Here are a couple of reference pics for the non-MSP guys on here to see...

coming from an MSP owner, i say, with aftermarket wheels, get a CF Trunk and keep it wingless that way. stock wheels do not blend well wingless, but with aftermarket wheels and wheel spacers? man, its a whole new beast afterwards.

but for now, keep the wing. until you have the supporting mods to make wingless look good.

02-24-2008, 08:36 PM
i like it in orange without the wing but the other colors TO ME look like wrx's from the rear wingless looks eww. but the sides are cool just to similar.

you need more useful stuff done to that car, get that boost up sooo much potential.

I personally like wingless but I know nothing about the MSP, so your call

Either way it does look kinda like a suby but i like the wing
if you had done a lot of other body mods it might be better to take it off
but i think itd look kinda awkward without one now

NOPSTNS
02-24-2008, 08:49 PM
if the body is stock mazdaspeed protege parts then dont ditch the wing man, itll look like u got a regular protege that put on the msp body kit.

unless u got some big ass front mount to proove its boosted....i dunno man, the one guy was right, car guys will be 50/50 split on wing or wingkless but all girls will want the wing.....but u already got my vote for keepin the wing...so ill stop post whoring...

very nice and clean looking MSP u got there... i love that slam so aggressive it's sickening :bigeek: the wheels r pretty nice too

i personally think it looks a lot better without the wing i think it has a better flow without it... it actually does look a lot like a wrx without the wing

i would also have to agree with Willdue sleeper indeed... :-p

all i'm saying, if he's going to go wingless he should atleast match the CF hood he already has. CF trunk w/ a familia badge. secks!

btw, buy your familia badge from www.corksport.com they have it for $14.00. everywhere else is $10.00 more. and it looks better than the protege badge.

here's mine:

Everyone sticks a familia badge on. I say if you get the CF trunk, don't go that route, do something different.

the only other different thing to do is leave it shaved... and since the car is so rare, its already uncommon to see. now of course, you go around the forums, it feels like these guys/gals live across the street from you, but in fact you know a lot of people live a good distance away compared to the usual honda integra.

True, true.

I want my stock trunk, shaved, with the stock MS emblem where it sits factory. That's it.

i have my current stock trunk completely shaved, it looks nice.

what would you guys think about a carbon fiber trunk with the stock 03.5 spoiler bolted on? it might set off the carbon fiber look a little better.

do they have full trunk setups in CF for the MSP? i think thatd be sweet.

Shaved, filled, and painted? How much did that run, or was it done when you bought her?

I think a CF trunk looks great wing-less, but I think this is very close to the stock 03.5-style wing. Would have to double-check all the measurements though...

I love the c/f trunk/hood combo on your color car jmond. I also think that if u did a c/f trunk with ur spoiler, its either going to set off the rear if ur car more and flow nice OR its gonna look out of place. I cant really say 100% without a pic of the c/f trunk and 03.5 spoiler...but I honestly think that c/f trunk with no spoiler would look great.

Honestly, as nice as all this stuff looks Justin, your car looks good as it sits. The stock wheels are pretty (are your's in good shape?), the color is great, it has a nice stance, nice tints and a CF hood.

I say make this bitch move out. What all is done to yours again, power-wise? IIRC, it has maybe an exhaust and hard-pipes?

thanks brad, appreciate it coming from another MSP owner. as far as power goes, intake, exhaust, and you can't forget my BOV attatched to my stock softpipe!

hopefully you can stick me first in line for the turbolife FMIC when it gets released considering i'm local!

Get a unichip or DSM AFC on that thing, you will be amazed at the difference. I am going to be selling my Unichip this spring/summer (might go to a Megaquirt). My only complaint is I can't change the tune myself.

Do you have a boost guage, are you still on your stock WGA? What exhaust are you running? Greddy maybe (I don't remember)?

Once it gets a bit warmer, we should meet up. I will let you take my car for a rip.

i call dibs on your unichip! i've been pricing them out, definitly let me know when you're ready to get rid of yours, i'll take it off your hands. i have an autometer boost and oil pressure (and the dumb A/F narrowband lightshow) down my a-pillar. i'm still stock WGA and i'm running the greddy SP2 that is leaking really bad from the midpipe/cat flange.

i really need to do something about the exhaust as soon as possible.

Is your WGA still good? What is your car boosting?

If I get rid of the unichip, we could work something out I am sure. Maybe some sort of a trade-deal with your SP2 (IIRC, you were talking about getting rid of it). How loud (or quiet) is your SP2? What are your plans for exhaust? If you still have the stock mid-pipe on there, that should be your next move, which would be a moot point if you are going to a CS, GLH or Vibrant exhaust.

I had some troubles with the midpipe to cat-back joint leaking too, if you want any help ever let me know.

Once the weather changes we gotta get all the local MSP's together.

I say leave it as it sits, the wing sets it off from all the other regular cars on the road, and it looks good. I don't like the look of a carbon trunk with a stock colored wing myself or at least not on a blue car.
