I bought the car from a girl who basically just drove it. its a 91 gli 2.0 16v. its a german built one. has like no rust on it. it has power windows, sunroof, recaro seats, bbs ra wheels, 5 speed. i was going to build it into my daily but i dont want to get into another project (which i know is where ill take it).
the good...
-The car runs, and drives and it is inspected till like august i think.
-recaros are pretty nice. a cig burn here and there, bolsters are still ok.
-working power mirrors
-working cluster, odo, tach, speedo
-two brand new tires.
-brand new starter
-all brand new trans seals were done
-brand new sachs clutch kit
-good brakes
-shifts smooth
-fresh oil change, and trans oil change
-2 motors (which are basically complete, one is torn down for a rebuild)
-stainless custom crush bent exhaust with stainless tips off of my vrt.
the not so good...
-does not run super strong like a 16v should.
-trans makes a bearing noise or a gear noise? when at a stop and idle, let the clutch out and you can hear it. also buzz while driving.
-sometimes, completely random when slowing it will shut off when the clutch is in and idle drops, most likely a vacuum leak
-needs a power steering rack
-could use 2 back tires
-no radio
-minor coolant hose leak at the oil cooler
-power steering leaks at the res. (i have a brand new res for it)
-would need 2 new brake hoses at inspection
-door pannels were cut for speakers to go in (id put new door pannels in if i were you)
-needs the shifter bushing replaced at the gear selector (i have a new one for it)
I have 2 motors for this car. the one that is in it obviously, and one i tore down and was going to rebuild. the one torn down has 90k miles on it and had a top end noise. i think its a sticky lifter from what i found when i took it apart. the block is still togeather but needs intermediate shaft bearings put in it. this motor has a alternator, ac compressor, ps pump, and intake manifold on it. its the perfect setup to make nice with no down time on the car.
thats pretty much it that i can think of. the car is a great starting platform for a project or to make a daily driver with a few bucks. other small issues are one back window does not work, defrost button is broke for back window, needs a 3rd brake light.
i want all of this stuff to go togeather as a package i dont want to part anything out. if i cant sell it ill just finish what i was going to do with it.
also offering up for sale my gti. id love to see them both go togeather. my plan was to put the trans, axles, and the suspension from the gti to the gli and part the rest of the gti out.
check out the seprate thread for the gti.
id like to get $1,900obo for the gli setup and $600 for the gti.
