Thinking of switching from Verizon to Tmobile. Has anyone tried out the new Sidekick Slide? Whats the biggest differences from the LX to the Slide other than the obvious size of phone & screen?!? How did you like it? I was planning on getting a Verizon Voyager but I've been hearing alot of bad things about their internet service. Opinions welcome because I'm probably going shortly after work today to talk to a Tmobile in my area. Also what plans do you have for Tmobile? I need unlimited texting to anyone on any network as well as internet access.

They're on the Sprint 3g network I believe... Doug will be in soon I'm sure...

$65 a month gets you unlimited everything and 500 minutes. thats unlimited text, gps, internet, email, etc. All of the phones are gps enabled and have most of the free stuff.

I plan on getting an ocean or the new Mysto soon... most likely the mysto due to the size :)

I just hate Sprint. I had them & Nextel and neither of them had good service or customer service when I had issues.

i was going to switch to verizon for the voyager but imo its cheap and trying to hard to be the iphone. go test them all out and see which one you like the best. i chose lx because thats what i have and i love it. i dont need a phone that does too many things, imo thats when they have freezing problems. the sk lx is advanced yet simple enough to fit my needs, its really all about what you want out of a phone.... granite all phone companies have their advantages and disadvantages, you just have to pick the best one for you. i will bash the slide though because its made by motorola and they are by far the WORST phone maker ever.

I say the Voyager. LG makes an awesome phone, and I have yet to have a huge issue with Verizon's network. But as others stated, check em out in store, and see what you like.

lg usually does make sweet phones but it seems like they might of rushed this one out too fast IMO. i forget the other lg phone thats the same one without the touchscreen, but whatever it is, beats the voyager imo.

I like Verizon cause their calling network has been the best for me since I signed up. Being a truck driver I was all over the East Coast so I ran into a lot of different areas and Verzion never let me down. I've been hearing about issues with their internet tho on the Voyager. Zerious who makes the SK LX?

The Danger Hiptop, also sold as the T-Mobile Sidekick, is a GPRS/EDGE mobile phone with wireless Internet capabilities and some functionality similar to a PDA.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] The Hiptop is sold by T-Mobile in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Austria. SunCom used to sell the device in some parts of the U.S.,[3][4] and Fido is the exclusive Hiptop carrier in Canada—sales in Canada were discontinued after Fido was bought by Rogers Communications, at the end of the Hiptop 2's life; this is partially because the Hiptop is a competitor to Rogers' BlackBerry business. In Germany, the Hiptop service is also offered by E-Plus including a flat rate tariff. In Australia, the Hiptop device and service are sold by Telstra.

The Hiptop software was originally designed by the company Danger, Inc., which is located in Palo Alto, California. The original Sidekick hardware was designed by Danger and manufactured by Flextronics. The Sidekick 2, 3, and iD are manufactured by Sharp Corporation in Japan and designed, respectively, by Danger and then Danger in partnership with Sharp. All versions of the Sidekick were developed in close partnership with T-Mobile. Danger provides the Hiptop OS software and back-end services for the device. These include a catalog of downloadable software applications, email hosting, instant messaging and web proxies.

How is it size wise compared to the LX? What kind of plan do you have and how much you pay a month for it?

i never seen an LX to compare it. but the phone is nice, no problems. has a mp3 player and the speaker for music/ringtones is seperate from the phone speaker so no worries on blowing the speaker by playing music cause there are 2 speakers. Internet is suprisingly fast on mine. Same with AIM and texts.

I have a 49.99 plan, which includes 1000 anytime minutes, free nights and weekends. Sidekick service for 19.99 i think it is. includes unlimited text and ****. then i got insurance which is 7.99 a month i think. o and my faves which is 5 a month. my bill is around $86 with tax. I never go over the 1000 minutes, and i use my phone alot. Mostly text everyone i know.

I went from Cingular who quoted the fewest dropped calls using the Cingular 8125 and that thing just sucks, then I decided to go Helio Drift and never had any issue with drop calls what's so ever. One down side about Helio's GPS is that it doesn't work as great if you go down south. It starts to slow down and sometimes freezes. Plus the battery to the Helio Drift dies like no tomorrow. I switched to T-mobile because Helio screwed me over when my phone was stolen. Now I have the Sidekick LX and never looked back. The service is awesome and so far never had a drop call *knock on wood*

How many calling minutes come with the $39.99 plan and is the unlimited texting/internet for any network? Sorry I haven't been to the Tmobile store around here yet cause I had to take care of something lastnight and by the time I got there it was closed. Or is this pretty much the plan that On Sale just described?

The only thing I don't like about it is that it's on the larger side of phones out there and the color is horrendous. Sorry I've only seen the brown one in person.:bigeek:

The blue one actually looks a lot like the paint on my car.

When dirty looks black.

Clean...blue pearl.

It's "big" but its still thin as hell. Actually fits in my pocket more comfortably than anything else I've owned.

Ok so I picked up my Voyager this morning. Its a nice phone but the internet is horrendous. Just trying to get on this site took me about 5 minutes then I had to log in and wait another 5 mins. Then I moved onto my AIM. WoW words can't describe how horrible that was. Everything else about the phone is great. Think I might return it and just go back to Tmobile and get the Sidekick LX. I was there this morning before going to Verizon and I played with the Slide & LX. The slide is nice but the buttons are just too damn small I kept hitting more than one at a time. I like how the screen slides better than how the LX swivels but I can learn to live with it. I didn't get to try out the internet or AIM functions but they can't be any worse than Verizon's. I couldn't even get more than 30 people on my buddy list and it was people I barely even talk to anyway. Took forever and everytime I shut the screen it logs me off anyway. FAIL! So I'm probably going back after work to return it and get the Sidekick LX instead. Hope they don't rape me on the cancelation fee for Verizon.

So I returned the Voyager tonight after work. I came home first and played with it for a solid hour and was only able to get onto 1 of the 8 pages I tried to and still couldn't get more than like 30 people on my AIM buddy list. Probably going to pick up a Sidekick LX tomorrow after work.

Cause its on Sprint. Sprint and I don't get along...So unless you can prove to me Sprint has changed (which I know they haven't cause my Mom still has them) then you're fighting a losing battle. Sorry just know what I see on a daily basis with her service.

You've got that wrong. Helio is on the 3G network, along with many other companies (Verizon, Sprint*Nextel is what causes their problems*, AT&T..) The 3G network is the largest network in the country. I've had my Ocean for like 4 months now.. I haven't dropped a call yet.. haven't lost service except for a brief moment in the harbor tunnel in Baltimore

I sell these things every day.. so if you're interested in it.. ask me more questions (PM.. AIM) and I'll be sure to hook you up with a good deal.

I'm listening? When I searched for local retailers they all led me to a Sprint store hence why I'm leary. First off I ditched Sprint cause their customer service was horrible and second cause their service sucked as well in my area. My Mom still has it and she loses calls left and right. I know this cause sometimes I'll be on my Verizon phone right next to her and her's will drop the call and she'll have to call the person back.

Hello buddy. Well i used to be a cell phone freak. Some people go through cars, shoes, rims, clothes like its nothing, well i owned a cell phone since 5th grade and always wanted something better. I ve been through several European networks, virgin mobile, and Cingular. US cell phone companies have a pretty crappy selection, although its kinda getting better. I usually switched phones every month to a better one every time.

I owned a great amount of reg phones, like 4 windows PDA phones(the $600 ones), Some weird phones, like the one below. If u switch to t mobile you can have any phone you like, go on ebay type in unlocked cell phone, it will work(cingular, T-mobile) .

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z8/maximaserg/nokia_7280.jpg
Yea its a phone

New sidekicks are very nice, pretty thin, keyboard BLOWS! To dial a number u have to use the top row like ur pc keys. You will probably get board with the interface pretty fast as well.

Voyager is pretty nice as well. Very clean, small touch screen though, has a problem with vibrate. Verizon not good+++ I personally never had a verizon but always had a natural hate for feeling like being stuck with one phone, or not being able to use another phone if mine dies, due to the lack of the SIM card. The set layout of the menu kills me too.

Soooo.. the conclusion.

Get an iPHONE and you will never ever regret your decision. I had the iPhone since July, and after switching phones every month/week, i don't plan on going anywhere from this phone.

cant afford it switch to t mobile and buy an htc wing, or an unlocked HTC touch from online.

Ok then drop it and the touchscreen shatters, and you're out of 500 dollars.

Helio Ocean does everything the iphone does, and more.. and it's only 250 dollars.

But can u touch it like an iPHONE? lol

True it is not a phone you would usually not take care of.

I mean i dont really take care of mine that much, i bought the full body screen protector (Invisible shield). You cant tell its on there until u feel it, so im not even afraid to scratch it.

But cmon its been on the market since June and its still the hottest and most techy phone out there. Although u cant take videos and cant forward texts, thats it.

Dropping yes... screen is glass, 250 to replace. My buddy dropped mine while he was standing, landed on concrete... We starred at it wondering if it would work. Picked it up its fine, landed on the back, works the same. Although my buddy got an iphone, was detailing a car 2 weeks later and fell out of his pocket an broke the screen. i personally never dropped mine.
So if you do drop your phones a lot i wouldn't really recommend any of the phones u are looking at. Ive seen peoples sidekicks chipped allover the place but still working, missing a couple of button but still working.

Not even gonna say anything about the voyager, just as fragile.

Here are the phones i would realistically recommend to you, by witnessing the way my friends abuse their phones.

Wanna stick with verizon get the new Envy. The navigation feature on it is pretty sweet, got us to Blue Knob in Altoona there and back no probs.
Although the internet sucks.

T-mobile, Cingular, - Samsung Black Jack. Awesome phone, works great all the time. My buddy abuses the **** out of it works great. fastest internet available for phones.

--- If anyone who is reading this and owns a windows phone, such as the blackjack or HTC's go to this site and you can watch videos on your phone, like on youtube, in better quality than an iphones youtube.

yea i owned a Mio a701, Cingulars 8125 and 8525. Those phones have great potential because they are like computers and can have anything installed on them just like a pc. Loved the 8525, actually owned 2. :).

The tilt is bad ass. 3G network on those phones is pretty sweet, but i dont really notice that much difference with the iphones edge.

BTW. those 8525 and 8125 are nice phones and you would want to keep them nice and clean, but dude my 8125 was dropped way to many time for that phone, but worked like new.

P.S. The iphone is more of an entertainment toy than anything else.
