Just curious if anyone in here was on the site. It is basically a professional networking site where you can link to people you know and in doing so see who they know. This helps if you see a job opening at a company and you see your friend knows someone there. That is a great thing to get your resume in the hands of someone at a company besides HR.

I am. I believe Chad is the one that tipped me off to it. I never really did anything but sign up. I'll work on that when I get home.

I posted about this over a year ago. I am a LION on linkedin. You can check out my profile here. http://www.linkedin.com/in/chadcolfer
I get more e-mails about jobs from this site then any others I am a member of.

Very cool, I'm trying to step up my game a little on my networking. With the economy and job market the way they are right now it just seems to make sense to do things like this so you aren't behind the 8 ball if you do find yourself or a friend without a job. *knocks on wood lol*

bump from the dead, I am currently taking a class that deals with linkedin a great deal and I know the site has expanded a good amount in the past few years, so i figured I'd see if there were any people on here still using it/new members. Feel free to search for me - Justin Yeretzian

I'm on there... I respond to adds and sometimes add others but haven't spent much time on there.
How are people using this and making it beneficial?

It's pretty cool to connect to other classmates I had no idea were on there and I have also found people from my job and connected with them.
The biggest benefit of linkedin (I think) is the group function which allows you to join a group with like-minded people/professionals and talk to people you normally would not be able to since you can only formally "connect" with someone if you know them.
I am waiting to be accepted into a number of groups so I'll see how things go and report back.

I've used it to get a few interviews but also I've been able to help people connect up and find work. You really get out of it what you put into it. Some of the newer features like status's have really helped improve the site. I know at least one person got an interview after someone I knew saw my comment on that person's status. Also you really can't go wrong meeting more people in the business community.
Also I am happy to see this come back from the dead lol.

Thought I would bring this thread back to life. This is an invaluable recruiting tool and I know the guys that I work with use it a lot to find new talent that isn't plastered all over Monster and Career Builder.
If you're on it post up. If you're not on it think about joining.

If you're viewing Linkedin as a "Job Board" you're looking at, and using it in the wrong way. Linkedin is about creating a professional network that will provide you with "opportunities."
Sure in the recent economy we've been happy to be employed. As a recruiter, we are beginning to see the market take a swing in the possitive direction again. This is the time for currently employed persons to begin looking for new and more promising opportunities.
If you're on linkedin join with me.

For whatever reason, it won't allow me to view some of your profiles.

So you guys don't use any "Mechanical Engineers" in the design of the pieces the Mechanical arm does are the measurements and specs for you?
Sorry to bother you, I'm just always curious as I specialize in the placement of Engineering staff.

with far less extra junk and a lot more pertinent information. Facebook used to be good for this when it first started when it was limited to colleges and businesses.

^ Get a load of this guy :-p
LinkedIn is very different from facebook because it focuses on real networking, not stupid hoobags that update their statuses every five minutes about **** that nobody cares about.

I know this is a little bump from the place where old threads go but. Does anyone have an account they pay for? Since I got a job in the automotive industry I have found the groups part to be a great source of new information.
