I love cooking, and its a great excuse to invite the new girl over.

I'm very good with coming up with ideas and getting recipes and making it all come together.

But I know there are some really good cooks on here as well and its always nice to pick some brains. So what I'm looking for are some dairy free recipes, she's lactose intolerant, that are both somewhat easy and quick to prepare but taste incredible.

not a bad idea, we've got a nice flat square frying pan in the house

actually, the more I think about it the better it sounds.

I could easily pick up a cheap little propane burner from sears and cook the food right at the table. That'd certainly be different than the the usual, "come over so I can cook for you and get your panties off" meal

Chicken Parm is too easy, and not very impressive... and like was said, she can't have dairy products :)

the effort is certainly appreciated.

Right now the home hibachi idea is winning, mainly for both the ease of cooking and uniqueness. Though, I may want to start off small this time around and keep that trick up my sleeve for awhile...

slice up onions, green and red peppers (maybe) mushrooms, and sprouts
get sesame seeds
you can even ask her what she would like (i.e. my girl hates mushrooms so i can have her pick the exact veggies)
slice those suckers up and cook them high heat in a wok or something.
you can even cut more up for fried rice- add an egg and toss it around.

throw soy sauce in there while its hot and near the end of being fully cooked (so it doesn't burn too much)

do the same for chicken, or beef, or whatever she wants (giving options is of course always nice and easy to be dynamic in a meal like this)

use butter for best taste but oils can do the trick too.

some kind of chicken was a thought. PM me the recipe if you would, or just post here if its not some super secret family recipe ;)

bread some chicken breasts and fry them up in some olive oil but DO NOT cook them all the way

In the same pan with the same oil *add some if necessary* throw some sliced garlic/shallots/and the juice of 1 lemon in the pan....after sqeezing the juice out of the lemon...throw the lemon in with the oil

finish cooking the chicken in the oven on 375 for about 10 to 15 minutes...until its tender.

when serving dip the finished chicken in with the oil/garlic/shallots and lemon then throw your pasta of choice (angel hair is my fav) in with the oil just to soak up some of the flavor and plate everything. It is a really good recipe...it sounds oily, but its not...besides its only olive oil which imo tastes great.

I'm lactose intolerant. First off, what "degree" is she? Many, many, many LI people can have aged cheeses and yogurts. Yogurts are cultured in such a way that the sugars are really negligible, and they seem to be a godsend to some LI people.

Find that out, and then I'll bust out my semi-professional cook library

Great Thread cuz Iw as thinking about this today. Im actually having a girl over for dinner tonight, im surprising her with it sort of. I think she expects to just go someplace on campus to eat. But im going with Salmon with clams (her fav) and im thinking maybe a small portion of shrimp alfredo for side. That wont work for you though. Do you know what she likes to eat at all? or atleast an idea?

we went to a thai place the other night. I think she likes food in general :) She had seafood pad thai, ate squid for the first time without hesitation.

So I know she'll be pretty much up for anything I make. So for that reason I'm more interested in presenting something new.

Hibachi isn't new, but its certainly unique "in house"

I like spicy food :) Curry is good.

I like german food a lot, very few places serve it up though. I like my wursts and german beer :)

I fully intend on taking new girl to Ludwigs Gardden in philly soon.

I'll eat just about anything though, I love trying new foods!

I love curry..I made some red curry with some bison meat, Chaos had some lol

I also did chicken with it as well, and some tofu (little party, and some have eclectic meat preferences). And I grew up with a lot of german food, and minus a few dishes, I find it to be really seasonal (read= winter), so that has its limits

I'm going to Ludwigs on Wed Night, it's like 2 blocks from mi casa.
