Alright guys so I'm looking into getting a second car that I will be DD. I think the top three car I am looking at are a used s2000, used cobalt ss or a used srt-4. All are sub 15k. I'm leaning more towards the s2000 cause I have always wanted a convertible plus it seems the most comfortable out of all my choices. Any one wana add anything else in? You opinions would be greatly appreciated.

If you get a Cobalt I will personally run you over the next time I see you.

I said other because none of them are really a good choice for a daily driver.

I've been interested in S2000's too.. and my boss (owner of CARV2 performance shop in DE) was saying to steer away from the 2000-01 model.. they had valve problems and such. He also said the 02+ have glass back windows instead of plastic. Hope that helps.

If you want a DD, get something practical. The S2000 is on the ass-end of practicality.

Just buy a Taurus, and we'll put a few turbonators in it!

cobalt or srt would make a better daily driver than a 2 seat roadster.

I rarely use the back seat in my sti so its not really a big deal to not have a back seat for me.

If you want a convertible feeling and a cheap dd. Miata all the way. I heard with a set of blizzacks they are graceful in the snow.

Keep in mind that it is not fast (handles like a mofo though) but when you have the top down, even doing 30 mph seems like 70.

My .02

My friend drives an hour and a half to work each day and just picked up a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. She loves it and says it is great on gas. Don't know if that helps you but that's my 2 cents haha

I like the miata but last time I drove my friends the thing was just uncomfortably small.

Audi A4....I had a 2000 A4 1.8T Quattro w/ a 5 speed manual. It was one of the best cars I've ever owned. It cost me 12k to buy with 60k miles on it and I put another 50k+ on it over the course of 2 years. Never had any major problems and it was a tank in all weather. It handled really well, the acceleration was ehhh, but it did move nicely on the highway and got around 32mpg.

It's also fairly modable if you wanted some extra performance out of it. Hands down, I couldn't think of a better "cheap" DD.

i love my SRT as a daily. its never let me down. the only problem i have is that everytime it needs something, the goddamn part is always on back order. i couldnt see DDing a s2k. it just doesnt seem comfortable. i mean, it is but it sits so low that i think it would be a pain in the ass to get in and out of. and everyone i know who bought a s2k for this reason eventually got something else to DD. i cant really comment on the cobalt. i like them, but it just reminds me of a cavalier too much. i would vote SRT. 4 door, plenty of room, and you can get them really cheap (unfortunately for me) right now.

Yea plus if I ever want to mod it it is a very modable car. The more I think about it the closer I am to either a srt or cobalt. The a4 sounds nice, but audis are very expensive if they break down so I don't want a real expensive car if it needs to be fixed.

so you're going to mod your daily driver? doesnt that kind of defeat the purpose of it?

why not? my daily is a POS ford ranger and the only reason its not modded is cuz im broke.

I'm not saying I'm going to mod just saying its a possibility.

your daily drive is suppose to be just that, a car that is daily driven. i see the little mods like wheels, springs, that kind of stuff. but if your talking about big projects, whats the point of it? its suppose to be 100% reliable, i think digging into it wont help.

Yeah, the reason for the second car is so you can mod the hell out of the one you have. Just get something simple and practical for your daily needs. I guess it really all depends on what ur looking to spend. Maybe a mazda 3, honda civic, or some other efficient car to just putt around.

Well it looks like my sister is going away to college and she won't be bringing her car so I'll be rocking her civic as my daily while shes away.
