I'm getting offers on the car and a great deal of attention, so I need to see if it is really going to be finding a new home soon.

GC Project car is burning a hole in my garage floor, or something.

I'd really like to get $8K for it, and I've already had offers just under that. PM me for a detail list, only for serious buyers.

My question is have you ever owed an old jap car? Or do you want want because you hear how amazing they handle and they are "Drift Machines"? Honestly most people are very unhappy with them. The cars need to be completely rebuilt from the ground up and have every suspension peice replaced to make them handle well. They are old and sloppy at this point and they make about 86 hp to the wheels in gts form. So if you want to make power with the 4age you need to spend a ton of money on high end parts to make it. And it won't be a daily at that point. I personally love the cars and have owed a few myself and have drifted them in many forms, motor, suspension combinations. I run drift events/clinics at Englishtown (Raceway Park). Largely they are peices of crap unless you spend a ton of money. I am not trying to be a jerk or anything, I just want you to be sure you know what you are getting into.

Shawn,

Thanks for the heads up, I've had to give that speech before too.

I've been in the industy long enough to know what I'm getting into, and that I'll be rebuilding from the ground up. Hence the vague description of what I'm looking for ;)

I want one because I've wanted for for as long as I can remember, and I'm finally willing to leave the creature comforts behind.

As a matter of fact there is one on ebay right now with a partially installed Beams motor (white top?)

Jake... skip the beams motors. You wont get a whole lot of power out of them unless you spend a lot of money to turbo them.

There are 2 types of "beams" motors. The red top that was sold in jdm NA celicas, and the Blacktop that was sold in the alteza.
The red top will give about 165hp at the wheels, while the black top is good for maybe 180whp.

There is also a 4age Silver top. This is the same motor Will has/had in his car. Those normally dyno at about 120 hp at 8,000 rpm, and very little torque.

Although its a fair bit of custom work, you should be looking into doing a 3sgte swap in them. That would give you the most power out of the box, and the most potential down the road.

Regardless, its great to see subaru guys jumping ship to the toyota camp.

InfiniteMotors
02-15-2008, 11:56 AM
Thanks for the info Art, I'm sure you can teach me a thing or two about toyota motors!

Tenatively, I think I've decided on the 4age Blacktop, as it's essentially a silvertop with more compression and larger ITB's. Nomatter what, for this project I will be going NA and using ITB's. It part of the point of this project.

Aside from looking for a good chassis, I'm trying to find some solid info about built Blacktop's torque and horsepower output.

I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest setup, just the top three or so possibly setups, and then I'll choose accordingly. Blacktop 4age, F20C, and (insert sweet NA 4cyl here) seem to be the main contenders.

InfiniteMotors

Looks pretty clean. Are you planning on adding more mods right away?

Depends on the exact state of the car when I get it. I've looked closely at all the pics he's sent me (total of about 25) and everything seems to be in order. Until I drive it, I just simply won't know.

Either way, I'll be strapping it to the dynojet to check the afr's etc. The TRD wing is a must (especially with that dent on the rear hatch) and a set of 15x8 Longchamp knockoffs will be here monday (yay keystone) with some 615's.

Other than that, I'll probably inspect the living hell out of the car for the next week or so. It's been a firm rule of mine never to buy someone else's project for years, but lets face it there aren't many of these cars around and I definitely do not have time for another project car until the Suby is done. It's a compromise.

I'm hoping the LSD is in good shape like he said it was. It was allegedly rebuilt after the last season that he used it for drifting and hasn't drifted at all since. If that's the case I'm sure it will be good but it has the zenki rear in it, not the kouki it came with. At roughly 150 hp, I doubt this will matter. When I'm ready for power, I'll look into drivetrain upgrades.

What would you do?

Shawn@R/Ttuning
03-14-2008, 03:39 PM
Id need a full list of what is done to the car suspension wise. Greddy coilovers are the nicest I have driven on. You will need to upgrade to a four link, panhard bar, and tension rods etc. as well if it hasn't been done because the car is old and the bushing will be pretty bad. As far as engine work Toda makes great parts for the motor. I can get that for you.

I left you the list that I have. I'm assuming is some other stuff, such as bushings or panhard, that aren't listed. He eluded to some stuff missing from that list, which I assumed were necessary bushings, maybe a short shifter or something like that.

I'm hoping the T3 Panhard and 4 link are already there, but if not I'm sure I'll be making as much of that stuff as I can. Who is your Toda supplier? (you can PM me if you want, teehee)

Hey! The car needed a LOT of work. Many small seemingly stupid things which added up to a poor vehicle. They have since been addressed, and the car is now one step away from solid as can be. Just need to do the 4-link and panhard.

The trip was a nightmare. We drove through a hurricane, got stopped in 12 different accidents, had been awake for 40 hours straight, and I lost my wallet somewhere in hicktown.

Now that the car is proper, it was all worth it.
