Okay so this is my official Member journal I guess...Lol
....So I got rid of all my domestics now i'm back in the import game i'm looking to slowly build a sick car. My boy Andrew(Liljitbugal) hooked me up with a 1992 240 with a silvia front end a nice starting point. We have a few ideas on what the end result will be but I got a surprise in store. Between the lack of time and the automotive market being kinda slow right now this aint gonna be easy. It's gonna start off small with suspension components, pulleys, etc. but eventually I wanna get into some motor work and a 5-spd swap and so on. The only thing thats been done since picking up the car is a brake pad and rotor replacement and some new tires up front. it's pretty clean and rust free so I'm very content with the way it is.

Question for ya how are you guys with N/a builds? I was thinking for just something reliable to have as a daily until I get myself situated going N/a. I saw a write-up on ItBs where they use gsxr tbs or something. I just want a few ideas on how that would go thats all.

I think I said earlier about going Ka-t if I did do turbo but I'm kinda leaning towards N/a these days. I just wanna have a clean reliable dd for now maybe work on some suspension components and just go for a nice responsive and quick ride over crazy power.

alright time to update on my car status....

where to start? hmmm. okay well while I was preparing to start surgery on my 240 I lost my job and had to sell it to have moneys until I found another one. a month later I bought a 1995 dodge intrepid for $200 bucks just to get around in while I was looking for a job, that p.o.s. was good no problems until this past weekend where an electrical fire killed it.

Now getting back on my feet I have a job and a few dollars "just a few" I've been looking at getting something else. Nothing too crazy since im still trying to pay bills and sh** but something with a little kick that can be a good dd. I came across a 1995 ford taurus today tho and I'll probably pick it up next week its got a lot of miles on it but its an SHO... so we'll see how this car treats me. Pics will be up as soon a I pick it up until then lets discuss whether its a good idea or not. lol oh and as soon as im good on bills and feeling comfortable with this job im gettin back into a 240 no matter what!!!

Don't have any pics yet but its the latest model 1996 the 3.4l v8. I've been reading up on it and it looks like the first thing I need to do is check the cams out because they are known for separating from the sprocket. Anyone familiar with that around here?

Don't just check 'em. WELD THEM ASAP. A lot of people who buy one won't even drive it to the shop to have it welded, they have it towed from the buyer to the shop and then pick it up from there :p Make sure it is a shop with experience doing this. www.shoforum.com. Wish mine was on the road but I've been being jerked around for over a month waiting for paperwork so I can get it titled.

Dude you drive a mazdaspeed miata i used to work for the guys that isn't the best on gas either...haha but really its a little v8. As far as gas lets just say im used to it by now, the intrepid drank gas like 40oz in the hood. That thing was a six that ran on five and was waay rich lol

Idk the last time i was at a KOP meet there was some sort of a cop problem lol something about kids drifting in 240s hahaha. But when I make sure this thing is in good enough shape and all i hope to make it out to some meets. The crew will be back together soon, my boys and I just hit a little road block but things are looking up.

Dude its soo Krispy!! It was like a needle in a hay stack. I do want to get it checked out before I start getting around in it a whole lot tho. I read a lot on the cam and sprocket issues it can have but at over a 100K im not sure if it will be a problem i'll definitely look into it tho. Other than me wanting to do a usual new "Used" car tune-up on it, you know belts, hoses, fluids it seems fine.

what kinda power dose this make? i had a 91 sho with the yamaha built v6 24v 5spd back in the day and it was pretty quick. it was 220 hp stock i think, which was pretty fast for its time.

It was DARN fast for it's time. Faster than a mustang GT and certain exotics that were still struggling with emissions standards to a degree.

As I understand it, the speed of the SHOs slowly tapered off over the years due to increasing weight with each generation and no significant power increase. The v8 ones like the OP has are still pretty quick though!

I haven't Put any dyno time in because I haven't done anything to the car but, according to the pros lol.....it makes about 235 hp stock. It's pretty quick nothing special. I have to say tho it's much faster already going than from a complete stop.

Aww man when my license was suspended my insurance company dropped my insurance for having a suspended L. Then for the next two months while it was suspended I didn't have any insurance so they are suspending my registration for not having insurance. I don't wanna have this thing sitting for 3 months. yes SELL the SHO!!! I had one for a year, it was a 97, same engine as the one you have, and nothing but problems. one of my cams sheared off the gear about 4 months after buying it, luckilly i had a warranty, so i got a new engine out of it, and i had the guy weld the cams in the new engine (a nesicairy mod if you want to have, and drive one of these cars) then the same week i got the car back, the timing chain broke, thats right, the chain :( I think when the guy was welding the cams, he hit the tentioner with the welder and screwed it up. then a couple weeks after that, my brake lines failed. and my warranty company told me to go screw :P thats when i traded it in. I would love to get another one some day, just to screw around with, but this time i would get a gen 2 or 3, with the v6, and s/c or turbo it. the earlier models can handle alot more power, and they came in a 5 speed. anyway, if you have any questions about the SHO let me know.

I think its luck of the draw with those cars, i was the second owner of mine, and i maintained it religiously. It only had about 80k on it when the cams went. and x2 on an exhaust, i put flowmasters on mine and it sounded awesome.
