Financing?
Parents bought them?
Dealing drugs?
I've seen some kids at previous meets with whips way too expensive for themselve's too have bought, unless they financed. In which place, they must have had amazing credit.
Honestly though, how many people here are "sponsored by mom and dad?"
I'll start- I work at wendys. That's why I drive a bone stock 95 jetta. I'm a student too. I bought it straight up with cash from an auction, after I got outa basic training.
im 18 with a 2000 si and have been slingin rocks since i was five! jk i have been working 2 jobs for about 2.5 years and i still barely cover insurance:mad: cuz its at about $2500 a year. but to buy the car my parents chipped in 2k of the 9k it cost me

And I pay with all my mods with the money I make doing "12 Volt side jobs" and some side work doing HVAC w/ my brother

i got my car when i was 18 and still in high school for 9k and it had 42,000 miles. i financed mine...obviously being that age i needed a cosigner b/c i had no credit, but i worked my ass off to pay for the car and the nice 2400/yr insurance payment...not to mention the maintainance/gas/etc. that comes with owning a car. i am proud to say i never had to ask anyone for money to pay for my car.

yeah, it probably will. I don't know, I'm glad on one hand that my parents never did buy me any sweet cars. They gave me a volvo 240 dl with an auto trans lol. That's why I bought the jetta.
It does kinda suck living in my area though because holland/newtown/richboro is so full of kids driving m3s, sti's, evos, etc.. it sucks having a slower car than someone who didn't pay a dime for their whip. But w/e. I've been working full time since I was 17, while juggaling school, now I'm 19 and eventually I'll see the fruits of my labor...

I bought my 2004 WRX brand new when I was 19. It was fully loaded. Financed it and got a 1.9% APR for the life of the loan. No co-signature. I worked for two weeks to make my $2,000 down payment.
Then again thats when I was working in sales for D&B and making more money then a 19-22 year old kid should be making.
Then I lost my job and the car got expensive, so I sold her back in July to some 16 year old kid who gave me a check for $15k out of his account.
Now I drive my Passat with no car payment and to be honest, its a much nicer car. Plus my insurance was cut in half.

well, I work full time at advance auto, getting ready to start a new full time job paying a lot better, and will still be working at advance also. But the way I've aquired all my cars (92 Ford Escort, 89 240sx hatch, 92 Mustang 5.0, 89 240sx coupe) was that I got the escort for free from my moms bf's mom, which I ran till it died. Then my mom bought me the first 89 for $250, and we put about $1k into it, sold that for $2100, bought the Mustang for $1900, then sold the mustang for $3k and bought this 89, now I'm parting this out to get a 95 240sx.

well i have 3 cars. 1997 bmw 328is, 1997 cadillac seville sts, 1996 subaru legacy wagon awd.
financed the bmw at the age of 18 (21 now) still paying for even thought she sits in the garage on jack stands with no suspension on it. pay insurance on it (900 a year), parents do help me out because i am in school and getting a job in willpo is like finding a needle in a haystack (at least a good job not some **** job) but i do plan on paying them back.
the caddy was given to me becuase my brother ran it offroad and bent just about every front end suspension component on the car, spend about 2.5k (rims/tires, subframe, struts, tie rod, control arm, f/r brakes) to get it back to running shape, has lasted me about 1.5 years and shes on her last leg, that where the suby comes in.
just bought the subaru for 500 cash a week ago, needs a starter and insurance, other than that its a great little car. should be fun in the winter.

that's the thing. I don't fault them, it's the ones who really show it off and rub it in your face. I was at a meet once, not going to specify where, but there was a group of younger members with more expensive cars sitting with each other and calling all the cars that drove by, that weren't as new or nice as theirs "rice."
that's the **** that pisses me off. Left a bad taste in my mouth.. but anyway, it sucks even worse when you're from here, your parents are well off, but they grew up poor and as such were smart enough to teach me and my siblings the value of money... especially when you're a young buck and you go to school in philly and get looked down on cause your from the suburbs but in reality, the kids from the city had just as much if not more in most cases.

I will also be getting my next car sometime in the near future...still undecided on what I want as far as something practical and efficient and comfy or something thats a poke in the face to every other person in my age bracket, but I will be paying for it all myself as well..it just feels better when you buy something yourself, you tend to apretiate it more because you worked hard for it.
bought my mustang for 5k in 02, needed a dd so purchased a 01 vr6 jetta for 9.5k in 03 did BPU on both cars then sold them both in

i wanna know what kind of jobs the 18-23 year olds have

im 20, when i turned of age to drive i didnt get my own car but shared my moms ford explorer. my bday was in march and shared the car till january or my sr in HS where i bought my 02WRX off a private owner for 11k. i bought it in jan 05 so the car was at most 3 yrs old (pretty good deal). I paid for it all and the deal with my father was I buy the car he pays the insurance. I come from a well off family but my dad grew up in newark, nj and has the motto he did it on his own so so will I. He pays the insurance because I still go to college and play baseball for my school. needless to say that takes up any time I have for work except summers, so as long as i play he pays lol. I greatly appreciate that.
As for my job, I worked construction for four straight summers making 25/hr so I put in my time.
I also paid for my mods, access port, turbo back and uppipe, guages, grill and lip. made my own boost controller
I am from holmdel if anyone knows where that it and its a rich town, my HS parkin lot was littered with new BMW's. I only dislike kids who get stuff from mommy and daddy when they are not greatfull

Reading what some of you have gone through I feel very bad for being lucky. I work at a restaurant right now to help my friend (the owner) out but once he gets everything taken care of and can look over his restaurant more often or find someone trustworthy enough I will resume my other job which is VP for my parents companies. I pay for everything I have but they pay me very well so I dunno, did I pay for my stuff or my parents?

The only car my parents sponsored was the '78 cutlass wagon with 300k+ on the clock. I inherited it and drove it (and bracket raced it quite successfully) until it died of a very leaky gas tank. My dad picked up a Maverick for $500 and we restored it together and I drove it for a year near the end of high school.
The Integra, and all 4 cars since, I have paid for entirely by myself by mowing lawns since I was 13. $20/hr under the table rocks. Of course, I've also never paid more than $523.60 for a car.
I won't finance a vehicle until student loans are paid off. There's just no point when I can build something just as much fun for a fraction of the cost.

I've been working since I was 15. Worked with my neighbor doing salvage stuff the summer before my Sop****re year. After that, I worked at Wawa for 7 months, Pacsun for 5, Horsham R/C for a year and a half (plus my 2nd job at the same time at JC R/C in Warminster for 5 months), and now I'm at Thompson in Doylestown, and I've been there since March, and love it.
I started driving with a '92 Isuzu Trooper that was a handmedown from the parents. Drove it when I had my permit, used it to get my license. I put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into that thing during the year I drove it, and a fair bit of money too. Crunched a fender on it in an accident on my way to school... stupid mistake of mine. I picked up a fender from Holladay's Parts down in southern Jersey, and had it on the truck the following evening. Had it painted within a month, after saving money to get it done right. Thing was a complete gas hog too... at the end, I was getting 12 MPG and throwing parts at it left and right because I couldn't get it to idle right. Spent many freezing winter nights not being able to feel my fingers working on that thing. It did teach me to respect what I drove though.
Between the gas mileage, constant issues, and the obvious lack of saftey associated with driving a 15 year old truck with no airbags, my aunt decided to surprise me and help me out with the payments on a new car, and told me to go check out the Scion dealer, take one for a drive, etc.
Prior to her offer, I had been looking around at various dealers, looking for a decent car under 10k, stick, and a 4-cylinder, with a safe amount of miles. No project cars, just something that would cost me less in the long run. I just didn't want to be driving around a money pit that was also a gas hog.
My grandparents wanted me to get a tC. I didn't want to pay the insurance premium for driving a car that idiots my age wreck every day. I didn't like the interior of the xB, as it was too upright for me, and when I got to the xA, even though I thought it looked dorky stock, with a set of lowering springs and wheels, I figured it would at least look a bit better.
That was almost 2 years ago now, and almost 30k miles ago. I've bought all my parts myself, paid for all my gas, done 95% of my own maintenence, and I pay 2700 a year for insurance. I work 50 hours a week when I'm home, and I'm working on getting a job up here.
I've been taught to support myself from day one... I've never expected much from anyone, and hate asking for help or taking handouts. I consider myself very fortunate, and I can't stand kids who brag about the brand new BMW they were thrown the keys to for them to go hoon about in.
I did keep that Trooper looking good though... hard to believe it was 15 years old the day I picked up the xA.

You don't have to be rich or have a great paying job to have a decent car. Its about using other people's money (Bank,Lenders, etc) as leverage, building positive credit and saving money. I bought my 02 WRX in 2004 when I was 21 years old and paid it off in about two and a half years. Now 24 years old, I bought my 06 STi in july and just recently sold the WRX. I work fulltime for the my Air National Guard unit and the pay is decent with our allowances included. When I first bought the WRX, I was late on a bunch of monthly loan payments. Not because I didn't have the cash but because I was just young, lazy and stupid. I still "pay" for this mistake today and for the near future. My loan rates are higher and I have a hard time getting things like as simple as a cell phone plan. So don't F yourself over with trying to live beyond your means or just not paying your bills on time.
With that said, I enjoy my cars but I also save money like a mad man. 10-15% of each paycheck goes into investments.
Remember that just because someone has a nice car doesn't mean they are well to do. They could be rolling in a Porsche but living in a rented one bedroom studio in a shatty part of town. People see lesser known rappers/singers with big houses, high-end rides and think that they must be rolling in dough. Reality is that most of those things are owned by their labels and when the artist stops making them money, they boot them from the house and take back the car. Its called fake wealth.

I don't care how anyone got their car(s), just as long as they are honest about it. What I mean is that if your parents paid for it thats fine, don't act like you busted your ass working 3 jobs while going to school to pay for it when you really didn't. thats lame.

I've bought all of my cars through my life. Stretched myslelf thinner then I should have a few times but I am lucky enough to have bought both of my cars outright now. I am not a kid anymore either though so I have a littel more money then I used to have.

interesting thread.
i worked @ vonage for 14.50 an hour, worked a ****ty f-s-s-m shift so got a differential bringing me to 15.0x an hour...
then they instated this `work as much overtime as you want` deal...
so i worked, a LOT. bought the srt4... bought the first wave of mods for like 5-6000$, switched to a local job for 12.x an hour and spent another 6000$+ on the car
i pay insurance/car payment/down payment/student loans/credit cards all on my own, BUT - i live at home....

Worked my ass off in college. Landed a good job. $25,000 down and $773/mo. Made a couple $10,000 payments toward principle and my car was 100% paid off in exactly 3 years.

Well, even though this has been covered a bunch of times, I'll play.
I started working when I was 13. I was a janitor for a school/church, and I made $5.00 an hour. It wasn't good money, but it was enough for me to go to the movies when I wanted. I stopped working when I started high school, but started again in my junior year. I worked in a retail store, as a stocker, and eventually made my way up to a management position in a few years. I got married when I was 21 to my highschool sweetheart.. My wife and I bought my WRX brand new shortly after our wedding, and we paid the car off in a little over a year.
After a little while, I left retail and went into business with my brother. I was a rep for a furniture manufacturer, and i traveled. A lot. The money was good, but the expenses were killer. 35,000 miles a year hurt when I wasn't being reimbursed for ANYTHING. Regardless, I did most of my mods during this timeframe.
Eventually I quit. I went into the mortgage business, and the money was great. I got laid off twice, and was unemployed for half of 2006. At this point, my WRX was paid off and we had just leased my wife's Highlander. I needed another job, quickly.
I got back into retail, and am currently making WAY less than I was over the last 5 years, but at least I have a steady paycheck and know that I can feed my family. I will be retiring the WRX in the not too distant future, and have no idea what it will be replaced with. But it will be something that I can afford, and will probably stay stock.

I financed my Sentra, which i bought after I graduated after High School. When I was at DCCC I worked about 60 hours a week (20 hours overtime) at one job. After they banned me from working overtime I got a second job that was weekends only and paid well for what I had to do. Three years after buying my Sentra I paid the remainder of the loan off.
My Xterra is pretty much the same deal. I financed it back in July. I was lucky enough to turn my college internship into a part time and now a full time job. I don't have many bills since I still live at home, but I'm saving to change that (hopefully get a house or something that I can make money off of and something that has a garage).

I've always paid cash for a car and never have paid more than $1500 for a car. I save money like a madman as well. I paid $450 out the door for my Escort running and inspected. When all is said and done (struts, tires, alignment, new seats, rear sway bar, etc.), i'll have a good running hatchback for around a grand. I will probably never buy a brand new car. The feeling of being paid off is nice as well.

My first car I found at a dealer while looking for a small pickup. I thought the avenger looked really nice and I got a loan in my dads name then made payments myself. I found my 240 on craigslist and paid cash for it. A month or two later I sold the avenger. It was fun having a choice of what car to drive for a while but what sucked is my brother didn't have a car and racked up miles on the avenger.

i have no problem with kids who's parents buy them nice cars (STI's, evos, M3's, s2k, etc) BUTTTTT, when those 18 yr olds turn into punks and talk shyt or talk down to people and say stuff like "dude, you drive a neon" (or focus, civic, or any other older used car that isnt flashy.
It's one thing for a young guy froma well off family to have a nice ride. It's another thing for them to brag and be a douchebag about having a car they didnt even pay for. thats my take on it.

ever since first driving an rx8 at Rev it up in 2004 i have wanted an rx8. i was 18, and graduated high school the week before rev it up and i knew i had to own one. i couldnt explain why, the high revving engine, the smoothness, the sound, the handling, its very unique ....when i turned the key, heard the rotary wind up and saw the 10,000 rpm tach light up something grabbed me and said, u belong here, behind the wheel of a mazda...
the only way i could come CLOSE to owning a 30k car was to save for years on end and have a good job. i went to tech school, and dreamed of owning one, got a job at a mazda dealer as a mazda tech, saved a lil bit, nothin crazy. the gf was my bigger obsession so i spent a lot on her so the rx8 got put on hold....
i was saving for an engagement ring for my girlfriend....had a couple grand, then she left me some dude at her work....so i had a couple grand and the rx8 was a pipe dream which then became a reality. i was 20, and if it werent for my 6500 dollar down payment and my fantastic credit (730, but not braggin at all) there was no way a bank would pony up the dough. sticker price came to 30,700 and i got an employee discount wich brought it down to the reasonable numbner of 26k. for 31k i wasnt buyin no rx8, but 26 wasnt so bad....if it wasnt for my employee disc i dont kno if i would have gotten the navigation..... insurance, wasnt as easy. but i found geico who were willing to take a chance, i had no accidents (within 3 years history) but a 20 yr old in a 30k rwd "coupe" didnt fare well....350 a month for 6 months wasnt fun but its been going down steadily since then....
when i worked at faulkner ppl would give me crap about my rx8 sayin my parents bought it for me and blah blah blah. it got so bad in fact that the service writers would never give me good work bc they "knew i didnt need the money".....since they were wrong about it, it got so bad i had to quit bc i couldnt live off 250 a week......
each month i EEEEEEK by with my car payments. earning just enuff to keep it fueled up, running ok, and insured. my parents refuse to help me out bc they said it was my own choice to buy a sports car and i was gonna do it myself.
i earn 1100 a month and 900 a month is spent on the car..... :(
but i still love her tho, RoXanne, my little japanese whore

I'm 22. I work as a mechanical engineer, working full time while in the process of getting my MBA part time. My first job was a sales associate for Adidas at the Woodbury Commons.
98 Corolla- purchased summer of freshman year, paid $5 or 6K for it.
97 Supra- purchased in Nov 07, financed ~4+ years to go lol
I live on my own, and have student loans equaling another Supra lol. I could have put all my money into the loans, but I after a few months on my own and looking at my finances, I knew I could afford to get my dream car :)
I still save good amount of money, might buy a house this coming summer or next... the rates are soo damn low!

Financed here. I actually built up a nice credit history prior to purchase (one year of early payments on a credit card and a college loan), after working overtime for 18 months straight, while I was in between schools. To keep up with my insurance and finance payments, gasoline and modding, it's still a long process of excessive hours, and no sleep, since I'm in school 18 credits per semester as well, but worth it.

Yeah, sometimes I do get pissed when people/high schoolers get what they don't deserve. I've worked hard for everything I have. I had my license but didn't drive to high school- making me seem like the biggest loser esp when everyone (Catholic school) drove mustangs, audi's, etc. So I worked hard in college and when I got out, bought my dream car. Nothing is more rewarding than doing something on your own and becoming successful. Been into cars since I was a little kid. I loved trucks when growing up, then I'll admit I played Gran Turismo and fell in love with the Evo VII. Went looking for an AWD turbo mitsubishi when i was 18, Evo wasn't out yet and there were no good DSMs in my town, wound up selling my Acura Legend and buying my 3000GT VR-4 in a fast week - haven't looked back since.
Now I'm getting more into performance driving and will be looking into picking up a Miata this summer, and in the next few years I'd like to sell my VR-4 and pick up an NSX or FD3S.

How did you guys get your cars?I went to this place. There were a lot of cars there that looked like they had never been driven before. This guy came out and asked me which one I liked. I picked the blue WRX wagon and took it for a test drive. I liked it. He told me I could take it home with me if I just signed some papers. I did that and for the next 60 months I got a bill every month! S.O.B.!

Ill be honest, got my first car by funding illegal pharmaceutical deals.
But ive always worked, started doing construction for my dad when was 14. Everything ive owned has been in my name as well as any thing to go along with it i.e. insurance or mods or when I cracked it up and had to fix it.

I have sex for money and all I could buy was a Hyundai
Gary does have sex for money because I have to tape it and post in on TSTonall4s.com to pay for my toys.
Seperately, my cars all cheap. Combine the insurance on a 71 Road runner, 96 Jeep, 96 VW, 75 Motorcycle, and a 88 mazda Rx7. Thats why I only insure 2 at a time
I would much rather have a vehicle to suit my mood than a single vehicle I have to baby.
And yes, I work hard for my OWN toys. Took a loan on one car before, Ill never do that again.
For the record, I have two years of on time car payments on my credit score and was just denied a Kohls credit card. Never made a bad credit decision, I pay with cash always. I dont want to hear how anyone under 20 has good enough credit to buy a new car in their own name. Or I might vomit.

bought my 1st truck from my stepdad for 500 bux. crappiest 1982 s-10 youve ever seen./ completely rusted out, had the 2.8 liter and 4 speed lol good 1st truck i guess>? i always felt he ripped me off for 500 haha
my dad bought me my 2nd truck. 1987 mazda b2000 mini truck. 2 liter, 5 speed... gay ass truck. only tihng it could be good for is lowriding. although i did learn how to fly around the back roads a little bit with it. pickup trucks handle good (no such thing as understeer)
then after my friend bought a prelude, and my other friend got a sohc 240sx, i got the sportscar bug too. a local kid was selling a 1992 240sx with a salvage title. good motor, but had overheating probs, but the thing had a really great body and chassis. bought it for 600, got the title reconstructed (took about 2.5 months) all the car needed for inspection was tie rod ends. so i beat the hell out of that for a while, gutted it out, got some used rims, did a few little free mods like short ram intake, advanced timing. i loved that car BAD. so then i moved to NJ and sold it to my 'friend' for 900 dollars
i then hit a little series of luck.
1st, my friend from my old job at a pizza place asked me if i still had the 240sx, and if i wanted another one. turns out his friend who owns a shop had a customer blow the timing chain in a pignose 240sx. i bought it for 100 dollars. thats the s13 i still have today, currently boooosted.
very soon after getting the 240 and starting to swap the motor out, my soon to be girlfriends brother crashed his Z32 into a gaurdrail and sold it to me for.... $100. 2 for 2 baby oh yes. lol so i bought that thing home, new battery, banged out the front fender, and put a new altermnator in it and i was delivering pizzas in that bitch for like 3 months before selling it for way more than 100 dollars.
hmm whats next. ah yes the nissan truck i have now. i had sold my old 240sx, and my z32, and the new pignose was still in my friends garage under construction. i had nothing to drive. so i found this thing on craigslist from a dirty used car salesman and got ripped for 2200. 1996 hardbody with 155k miles and a check engine light :( but **** i lowered it threw some 17s on it and i still drive it everyday
last but not least my beloved s12. found it on craigslist as well and tried to make my friend buy it. he wouldnt so i had to do it myself. totally does not fit into anything in my life right now, already have my s13 project, but i needed to scoop her up.
streetbikes and **** are another story haha
currently im insuring just my truck and s12. its like 222 a month for bare minimum coverage (yea it sucks) soon i think im going to drop the s12 and insure the s13 to unleash some boosted goodness
just realized this thread is majorly about how we pay for our ****.
in high school i did a lot of illegal dealngs lol. but that was really just for dirtbikes and stuff. ive been working stupid jobs since the start of highschool like sunoco, getty, pizza places, construction... they paid for all of my cars.
i dont beleive in buying something i dont have money for at the moment. although i realize ill have to do this for a house. the only time my parents really 'spoiled' me car wise was when my dad bought me the mazda truck. he also might have helped my insurance for the s-10 but i dont remember lol
EDIT: oh i forgot my 1991 s13. i bought it for 500 from some really odd guy at wawa. he came to my window when i was sitting in my 92 hatch and asked me if i wanted a parts car lol
it was an uber smooth car, great drivetrain. but the guy was a drunk driver and managed to bend up about every body panel on the freakin thing lol
so i took it all apart, sold the motor for 200 and the shell for 200... took some parts out for myself. still have the uber smooth trans driveshaft and rear from it haha

After driving my 98 SL2 around for 5 years, my parents signed it over to me as a graduation present, just in time for it to get inspected, registered, and insured for the year. After that, it had some unfortunate run-ins with wildlife, seized/replaced transmission and new racing clutch (car=oil eater), and a curb on a slick road that resulted in a messed up subframe. Luckily for me, the car still looked fine, even if to drive it straight, the steering wheel had to be at 10 o'clock.
Went to Saturn dealership, picked the Ion off the truck and claimed it as mine. Saleswoman said it would cost $400+/mo, so I said forget it (it's a Saturn 4 banger, wtf). Went to the other local Saturn dealership, said I wanted ^that^ car at the dealership, and they quoted me at a lower price. So in short, I bought the car I wanted right from under their noses. And then I promptly spent all that money that I probably would've saved because I opted to lease the car instead of buying it. Now I'm financing it because I bought it after the lease expired, which was my original plan all along.

I worked at a Chevy Dealership at the time, so I got employee discount and rebates...ordered it from factory, took delivery with only 3 miles on her at the time...my dad co-signed for me so I could get a better rate considering I didn't have enough credit built up yet. But I paid for it all myself and insurance...all I needed was a co-signer to get a loan since it was my first new car.

I started with a 1986 mercedes 300e (with 350k miles...not a typo), was given to me after the owner passed away. Learned to drive on it, sold it for 2gs. Used that money to buy a 1994 toyota camry for $1200...sold it 3 months later for $3700. All while working and putting money in the bank. Bought a 1998 eclipse gs with my money from the two cars sales plus working money, i think it was 4g's. Drove it for a year and sold it to for 5gs, again while working and saving that money. Bought my prelude 3-4 years ago, only had 37k miles on it and i got it for 8g's. Started college, been tapping my bank account to the max while having my prelude as my reliable everyday'er. Once i get out of college and start making real bank, my prelude will get its reward for all of its loyal service.

My parents didn't pay for any of my cars...not directly at least. When I was 14 my dad gave me a 93 eagle vision that my parents hadn't been driving for years at that point and he said "heres your first car, do with it what you want." At that point...i got a buffer, buffed the **** out of it....cleaned it up...and did basic **** and slapped a for sale sign on it. Sold it for 1800 dollars and went from there buying and selling the 13 diff cars ive had since 2004.

The bitterness comes from when the people who are given things act like they are better because of it. Not saying everyone does, but it happens enough to make it an accurate stereotype, and in turn make those of us who pay for nice things at a young age sensitive about being lumped into "spending daddy's money" group.

the short version...
I rode septa all through HS while I worked as a cook/dishwasher in an pizza shop. At 18 shortly after I graduated HS I was kicked out of the house by my step mom. I took the $2,100 I had saved up from working all through school and bought an 89 mustang LX for $1,500 cash and started to rent a room for $70/week. since I've been 18 I've paid for everything myself, nobody gave or bought me a damn thing and I had too much pride to accept it even if they tried. I worked my ass of for a couple years doing misc. min wage ($4.35/hr at the time) BS and saved my money up. at one point I had 3 min. wage jobs at once.
I got into the construction field around 20-21 and realized I could be doing this crap on my own instead of making $$ for someone else, so I started a small business doing water damage restoration & carpet cleaning. About a month later hurrican floyd hit the east coast and I was swamped, literally, with more business then I could shake a stick at. Busted my ass 7 days a week 12+ hrs a day for as long as I could and make a ton of bank for a 21 year old. Luckly I had a good head on my shoulders and invested that bank in real estate and the stock market rather then buying cars.
that was almost 10 years ago. I'm 30 now with an awesome wife, kid on the way, couple of toys, nice house and a decent job just living the American dream. Looking back on my life when I was still 18 and renting a room for $10/day I'm very proud of what I've made myself into and wouldn't change a damn thing.

My first car was an '84 Camaro which was given to me by my father. He got it for $500. After I wrecked that on a wet road within a year of having it I presonally wanted something FWD with a little less power.
Since my father worked at a Pontiac, Buick, GMC dealer I was planning on getting a new Sunfire but they had a used Cavalier on the lot with a few mods that any young kid would love so I picked that up with my father co-signing for me.
After having that for a few years I had a list of mods planned and I happened to come across another Cavalier with the mods I wanted and a better body for a good price so my father co-signed another loan for me that was large enough to pay off my old one and purchase this other car.
Then I wanted two wheels to join my dad on his rare joy rides on his Indian so he co-signed a loan for me on an '06 Ninja 250 which came out to less than $4k OTD with gear and all that good stuff.
So at this point I had two outstanding loans that I paid on for about two years building some credit.
Then I started having problems with my Cavalier, blew 3 motors in one year (all for different reasons) and decided to start looking for a different car when I happened across a 1990 Lotus Esprit SE for less than $16k so I jumped on it. I went to my bank by myself and was approved for a 3 year term used auto loan with a 9% interest rate. Then the car was unfortunately totalled within four days of me picking it up and I was still dead set on getting a different car and getting rid of my Cavalier.
After totalling my Esprit my insurance company, Progressive, hooked me up with a company called Auto Advocates who basically will ask you what kind of car you want and how much you want to pay and will find it for you. I set them out on a quest to find a black 300C for me and they quickly found an '06 with 31k miles for $26k. I decided to do a little search myself on AutoTrader and came across an '06 300C SRT-8 with 26k miles for $28k. I called them up and told them to investigate the SRT-8 and a few days later I was at the dealership signing the papers for the loan that I got by myself and have no problems paying. Then again, I still live at home... for now. :)
But yea, I'm not doing too bad for a 22 year old but the job is definitely a plus.

Take your anger out on the douche who "inspected" it the day I bought it. I drove it for four days, parked it, and when I went to warm it up before leaving I walked inside real quick while it was parked with the parking brake engaged and it rolled away. Not my fault.

Its not too funny in my case. I was pretty pissed when that happened as I'd been driving it all weekend. I picked it up on a Friday and went all over the place, I guess parking in pretty flat spots so I never noticed the parking brake issue. Well, Tuesday it was parked at work in the same spot for eight hours with the parking brake on and in neutral. Before leaving I started it up to let it warm up as it was the turbo version, stepped back inside to clock out, looked out the window at it, typed a few words on the computer, then looked back out and it was gone. I ran out the door just in time to see it roll into a semi truck which was parked at the business next door.
It was a good thing anyway 'cause apparently the car had been totalled before even though I bought it with a clean title and CarFax. It was titled in NY, totalled, rebuilt, and re-titled in PA. It was never reported to any insurance agency or anything. And when I took it for repairs the shop uncovered lots of shoddy work that had been done to repair it, hell, the body work was done with newspaper and bondo. That and they said the oil lines feeding the turbo were clogged and the turbo was on its last leg (even though that was going to be one of the first things to be replaced by me) as well as a few other things. In the end it was a good thing, but it was still a damn fun car.

Easy! I have been working since I was 15. I had no expenses living at home (still do). Every penny I made I kept, except for the little misc. food, movies, etc (which was rare). Took most of my money to Peruzzi Mitsubishi; found out for the month of september they had a 0% interest. With my dad as a co-signer, i shelled out 15k on a $29,000 car. I will be paying it off til 2010 for about $260 a month. The only help I had was my dads signature. Im 19.

Bought My first car at 17, 1989 Suzuki Sidekick Beat the Piss out of that car for two years until I spun a Rod bearing...Rebuilt the motor with my dad for like 400 dollars and it spun another bearing (Think it was a bad block from the first time I fubard it) After that I bought a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS wanted a Turbo model but got scared because I had researched it and heard about 'Crankwalk' so I settled for the Non turbo...Got tired of the slowness(And blew a HG) and found a 1990 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD in North jersey that I fell in love with. Drive that for almost a year broke the trans/T case on the steps of the Art museum in Philly and never got it running again. I traded that for a Streetbike rode that all last summer realized I didn't have a car sold the bike bought a 96 Ford taurus and the rest is history.
I've bought and paid for everything myself...and Tommorrow I take delivery on a 90 Talon Chassis that I'm building up to be my Track Slut :)

about the talk of peoples parents buying them cars and what not... theres different levels to all of this.
theres the parents who are loaded, and just buy their kids whatever they want. cars and all
theres the parents who are financially comfortable. they support their family well, and maybe buy their kids a nice used car to start them out and pay their insurance.
theres parents who support their family pretty well, and if they have the cash, they will pitch a grand or so to their kid for the 1st car. no way are they paying insurance.
theres parents who can hardly afford to put food on the table, but they make due. cars for the kids? LOL get a job son
theres parents who cant even put food on the table. "go get a job if you want dinner"
and many different situations in between.
my dad has always been a little shakey money wise.. he bought my older sister a car and would do the same for me, but i feel guilty about that kind of thing so i bought my own the 1st time. but soon after, my dad realized how much of a piece it was and helped me out with a nicer one. lol so basically he gave me reliable transportation. but when it got to the point where i wanted more than just 'transportation' and i wanted something cool, well thats not gonna be his money.
