What is my car worth....

I put my car up for sale on here and really got no response...I had people tell me that I was asking too much but I am asking blue book/nada guides value or a little less...people have said go to corral.net or stangnet.com to see what its worth but I know for a fact that those cars are cheaper because they have been beaten on and aren't as clean as they could be, etc.

I am not complaining that no one will buy my car on here...I understand that everyone likes different things. I just want to know what the deal is.

If you guys don't know or havent seen the thread already...my car is a 1998 Mustang GT, 5speed, 4.6l v8 with almost 94k on it and daily driven, cold air intake, steeda tri-ax short shifter, offroad h-pipe, bbk underdrive pulleys, tint (not sure of percentage), pl, pw, tilt, cruise, power driver seat, mach 460 sound system (factory option), etc.

the only problems are a small hole in the back seat that seems to be some kind of burn but not from me and I don't smoke neither does anyone in my car and the check engine light is on due to the hpipe...there is a squeek from the idler pulley that will be fixed so thats not a problem.

thanks in advance for any help or input

the ecomony in general is low right now, nothing is selling fast unless its a good deal or you find the right buyer. also gas prices are still high, so most people arrent looking for a v8 right now. its an american car with almost 100,000 on it and if your not the 1st owner please dont tell me it was never beaten on.

im not at all trying to put you down i like mustangs but stick it out and good luck with finding a buyer

you can ask pete (teh dirt) if I beat on it or not...I have only really put it to higher rpms MAYBE 5 times but nothing close to redline...and from what I was told, the owner before me was an older guy in his 50's or 60's

but thats not the point...I get what your saying though, I know its hard to sell stuff like this right now and harder cause its an American car with a v8 with the gas prices the way they are, but the car isnt THAT bad on gas and the fact that its close to 100k isnt that big of a deal really being that the car runs very strong still and I wouldnt doubt that the car will last alot longer. I know my word means jack to anyone else on here but you can ask anyone who knows me on here...I am nothing but honest in everything I say. Thanks though.

I don't know how much you are asking, but you would be lucky to get $5000 for it. Expect closer to $4,500.

It's a 98. There just isn't too much demand for your car out there. The blue book value means absolutely SQUAT. I posted the price that they actually sell for BTW.

i would say ur car is worth right around 5 thousand cuz my buddy just picked up a 98 with under 50k on it for 8 thousand.. and that was a convertible.. but yea. another thing that might be hurting ur car is the fact that in that body style most people are looking for the 5.0

o i know...im sorry you got the idea that i thought that you were coming at me

Thanks for the input all you other guys too

I know there isnt much demand for a 98 right now but confused really on why people want the 5.0 so much...imho the 4.6 is a much better powerplant ...to each his own is what is said...true and hurts me right now but o well...thanks for the input guys

well you know the old motto, theres no replacement for displacement. People just like the 5.0 better. They hold pretty dam good power stock, and have even more aftermarket support then the 4.6's. Dont get me wrong, I gota buddy goin almost 12's in a 4.6 stang, but I'm just sayin. And as said before, the market just isn't on your side to be selling a v8. If I had the money layin around I would probably buy your car lol.

I gotta tell you that if I was lookin for a mustang, yours is definately a very nice one and I would definately consider it. However, sad to say it is an american car, with quite some miles, so that may be slowing you down..maybe you are asking a touch much, maybe you arent trying hard enough to sell it..if you havent tried cars.com or autotrader.com thats a problem cause its easy to sell cars there, not so much on a forum (especially this one which is mainly subaru populated). GL regardless

It's not just that you have a 4.6, it's that you have the even crappier 96-98 4.6 mod motor. It's VERY true. They just don't sell for a lot. Your opinion is that you have a better motor, but it really isn't a better motor in 99% of the mustang population opinion.

Your problem isn't that you are selling an 8 cylinder "gas guzzler". You just aren't selling a very well liked pony car.

very true on all that...the 96-98 had its flaws and idk what ford was thinking with the plastic crossovers that cracked around 78k miles...but replaced that and have had no problems and the car is running very strong...i know people dont seem to like this body style...but i think thats what drew me to it...twice haha

thanks to the other guys too about the nice comments...i understand i may be asking a little bit more than on other forums and this place isnt the best place to be tryin to sell a v8 american car, but also i thought i knew the worth of my car...i havent tried cars.com or autotrader yet so maybe i will do that soon...anyone know of the cost of a simple add on autotrader????

I would also say it's worth around $4500. I seen a few newer like 01-02 GTs with around the same miles selling for $6500 or so. Like many people said it's not the best year for someone who wants to mod it and turn it into a race car and many people are not going to buy a 100k mile car with a V8 as a daily driver.

Yeah its stock has it right, that version of the 4.6 is teh weaksauce. lol try alternatives like craigslist, autotrader, cars.com, stuff like that.

You also have to remember the in the real world I'd say 90% of the time, having mods decreases the value of the car. Very few people out there will give you more money just because the car is modded.

Me personally, when I buy any used performance car, I try to find one that is unmolested. When I bought the Cobra I have now, I made sure I looked for one that was almost 100% stock, with low miles. You have mods, and as mentioned, you also have close to 100K miles.

And it is true about that year 4.6. There is nothing special about it, and it definitely is not in demand in the Mustang world.

i wasnt addin money on because of my mods...i never even factored them in at all

the only mod i think people would stil like to keep on the car is the short shifter...just becuase its a real creature comfort kind of thing...but the rest should be returned to stock and maybe ill just put it on autotrader and all...prolly my best bet is right...thanks alot for the input everyone seriously

the early model sn95's dont sell, the 94-95 sometimes do just cause the motor. They are ugly and they are slow and they do not have the technology the 99-04 does. At least your not me and gonna wind up trying to sell a 6 banger of that year with as of right now has 105k. Take the mods off and sell them on mustang boards (pennmustangs/thecorral), List it on alot of sites for around 4k-4.5k (auto trader/ect.), i highly doubt someone wants it here. most people go for the 5.0 because that body style not the engine so much, most of the people think anything before 1994 is a 5.0.

the problem with your asking price isn't you, its others. most see your car as a ten year old car with 100k and considered a "muscle car". this to most will mean it has been beat on. even if you havent thats not going to change opinions. these cars sell for $4500-$5000, in good shape. yours might be in amazing shape, but unless you get someone really looking for that body style pretty much stock, you are going to have to sell for the same money as others out there.

as for why people like 5.0s over the 4.6s, its modification prices as well as what you like in body style. personally i don't like the sn95 as much, i have considered upgrading to an sn95 cobra, but a sn95 Gt, i'd rather go with a fox.

i agree with both of you completely...except i actually like this body style...and my reason is cause you see them alot less than any others...but that doesnt help when tryin to sell haha...i am going to take off some of the stuff this weekend....and then put it on autotrader and see what happens...thanks alot for the help guys
