So I've heard people say that there is a part of the spark plug (dont know which part, platinum? porcelin?) that if you throw at glass, it shatters it instantly. Does anyone know if this is true and if it is, what part of the plug is it? Just curious.

Heard about it, never done it. What exactly are you planning? Cuz I want in! :)

There are so many variables in that statement it's mind boggling.

for all we know they could have thrown a rock at the window, or picked up the part and threw that at the window.

The first couple hits were little tosses, the last one you can clearly see the dude throw the whatever it had at the window.

If yer gonn go through the effort of using part of a sparge plug to break a window, you might as well throw the whole damn plug through the window.

I have done it many times....its fun. works as described. I broke the back window out of a malibu once. Didn't even throw it very hard. Just did a pop and then slowly broke into a million pieces.

Ceramic/Porcelain is extremely hard (on the hardness scales). If you throw a hard object at tempered glass (most auto glass), it will fracture and break. The harder the object, the less force required to break. You are still going to have to throw it pretty hard though.

FWIW< a bb gun breaks glass even easier.

...pretty much sums it up.

i still havent found glass that takes 5 minutes to shatter after it breaks

for half inch tempered, we get wrong sizes and trash peices all the time, u have to smash a corner to break it, and cleaning it up isnt fun.

i was throwing a hammer full force in the center of it and all it did was bounce off, this was quarter or half inch stuff though.

found a video, i gotta do this all the time, except put a tarp under it to save time cleaning up.

its actually pretty fun breaking it, but u can see it takes him a couple taps to break it.

btw if ur looking to break into a car, dont be a noob and break the window.

lol it does work i have done it many of times. it makes a popping sound then spiders. but if your going to take the time and use a plug you might as well use a brick or a hammer and then ran your a$$ off. lol but i like to use a potato gun. lol

i think the urban legend with the spark plug was to make it a silent break

We tried it on my last car. Smashed an old plug and tried it on the back window... its the only window that was left that wasnt broken (pulled all sides, front was broken from airbags). Nothing happend.
