at first i thought it was a new Godzilla movie but now i have no idea what to think about it. In the new preview a person gets bit and is infected. It looks sick though, JJ Abrams is an amazing producer up there with Michael Bay

Yeah ive been doing some researching.... On Youtube there are a few videos of what they think the monster is..One of them actually linked it to being a new power rangers movie..hahaha based on the facts in the one preview where the first aftershock is seen and the roar is heard...they linked that to the "zoids" aka power rangers fighting creatures...and in the same beginning, they asked where jason was....and also a line about morphing in one of the previews....jason was also known as the Red Ranger from power rangers...So i mean it could go either way but im super interested and i cant wait for more things to be leaked...
Heres one video...

However i came across anotehr video which points me in a new direction...which ill paraphase
"This quote comes from an article at New York Post that's digging further into the film.
"It's about an alien that wipes out all of New York City. The footage is taken the day before everyone dies. A bunch of kids come to Coney Island with a video camera. The movie is a flashback to that day.""
Okay problem is...that could just be talk to throw everyone off....So until it gets closer till the release...we wont know...

According to the wikipedia, "To prevent the leaking of plot information, instead of auditioning the actors with scenes from the film, scripts from Abrams's previous productions were used, such as television series Alias. Some scenes were also written specifically for the audition process, not intended for use in the film."
I'm really excited for this to come out. I can't keep up with all the viral marketing stuff but it's definitely cool.
What's with this part of the second trailer though?

haha one night I got online to watch the 5 minute preview they released. I ended up getting hooked on it and going from link to link with all these clues to the movie. I learned allllot about it, and I stumbled across a write up from someone that had seen it. I thought it was just bs, but I read 1/2 of it and stopped bc I didn't want to spoil the movie for me if it was true. well by looking at all the previews out now, the write up is definitely looking to be the truth.
and I dont want to ruin it for anyone on here, so I'll just leave it at this movie is going to be crazy, nothing like Godzilla lol

When I got sucked into the whole hype online, I watched a video on youtube for it that talked about how one the main character in the movie is getting ready to move to Japan for a company called "Slusho," and thats why in the beginning of the movie they are at a going away party when the monster starts attacking the city.
Anyway, the video said to go to slusho.com. Its a website for a fake company that Abrams created just for the movie. And "Slusho" has a parent company called "Tagruato" which also has its own fake-site. So I went to the site, and thats where I ended up getting sucked in for hours online lol. Both sites have all these clues hidden in them.
For those of you who actually want to know about the monster read this, if you dont care then dont waste your time reading it lol. To summarize, the parent company "Tangruato" is mainly a deep sea drilling company, but it owns "Slusho" drinks, which contain some rare deepsea ingredient. Tangruato has a map of all their drilling rigs, and it shows that they are opening a deep sea drilling rig a few hundred miles away from NYC. And on their site, in one write up they stated;
"Tagruato explores the final frontier on planet earth -- the deepest recesses of our oceans. Our scientists and engineers have created drilling technology that can withstand degrees of extreme pressure, cold, and heat never before thought possible. This groundbreaking feat of industrial triumph allows for research and retrieval in areas previously unexplored by man."
hmmm... i'm thinking ....aka that means they're going to bust open some area underwater thats been trapping this thing, which will allow an exitway to let out a big ****ing monster thats going to rip apart NYC lol. But thats just my opinion..

However, this makes me think otherwise. Scroll down to the headline "Hatsui Satellite Works for the Futura," and read below (http://tagruato.jp/headlines.php?story=news_08_01_03)
kinda makes you think it may be alien bc they said the piece was "thought to have fallen off" of a Japanese satellite

I looked around on the site as after the Happy Talk section on the slusho site. I'm guessing that the special ingredient has infected something and turned it into a monster. Also there something about the number six, cause it's on the website a lot and there's 6 slusho flavors. Also one of the quotes was "she's one of them" that would also make me think it's a infection of some type.
There's also the Ethan Haas videos which talks about people

yeah, I've read most if that stuff, I just didn't want to get overly into it on the forum bc I knew I'd start searching those sites again and its like it never ends lol. the blonde girl in the movie, pretty sure her name is jamie, her bf works for tidowave, which supposedly is an environmental activist group against tagruato, they have a website too btw lol. and I guess as part of abrams online clues, there are about 7 homemade videos online that she recording and are "sending" them to her bf that is oversees working for tidowave. I thiiink theyre under "jamie and teddy" or "jamie loves teddy" on youtube.
and yes, people do get "infected." idk if it has something to do with drinking slusho's or if its something to do with the monster. On the Slusho site, you can see that their logo is "You can't just drink 6," okk, so what happens after you drink the 7th? But anyway, once infected, their stomach starts to hurt, then later they start to cry bloody tears (u can see this in several of the previews). immediately after a person starts to have bloody tears, their stomach begins to rapidly expand, and ill leave it at that (in some of the commercials and trailers, you see men in what looks like contamination suits. watch closely to the shadow of 2 men holding a women that just began to cry blood, watch her stomach, its a very very quick scene that you'll probably need to rewind).
Its at around 1:12 in this preview (http://youtube.com/watch?v=hfXUqXg7LHE)
theyre really trying to hype this movie up lol, each character even has their own myspace.

Look at the SOL picture in the bg. Look at the trail in the water. Follow it to the buildings. Look very hard at the building on the left of the smoke. You can see a "metal tail" in the air, that smashed into the building and also see "tenticle". Its a metallic sea creature sent from an extraterrestrial planet that attacks new york.

This is what happens when the main poster is mirrored. You can see a monsters face in the center where the mirrored objects meet, and also its reflection in the water. I doubt that a monsters face appearing when the poster is mirrored was just a coincidence
http://search.aol.com/aol/redir?src=image&clickedItemURN=http%3A%2F%2Fnymag.com%2Fdaily%2Fen tertainment%2F2007%2F08%2F30%2Fimages%2Fmonster.jp g&moduleId=image_details.jsp.M&clickedItemDescription=Image Details
After you darken and add contrast to the pic you can see it better. From what ive seen online, some people think it is just the monsters face in the mirrored poster, others think its the whole body (with the monster crouched on all 4s), then some think its the monster standing up.

DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN IT!
I'm still unsure about the movie it could have been that it was funny to me I mean the sound of his little offspring just made me giggle! The ending sucked IMO. I mean it just stopped and that was it nothing to be like hey this is what could come or what is coming. I think it was all the hype I mean people said that this was going to be the new saw/blair witch. Loved the filming style. The thing I hated the most was the fact that it was only 80 mins long! Some Tv shows are longer I looked down when the move was over and I was like wow it's that early! I just hope I don't have to wait long for cloverfield2

The marketing is what made me think of Lost and drew me to want to go see this move. The more I thought about it the more I thought about The Blair Witch Project. I'll wait until it comes out on video. Most of the people I talked to have said it was good.

Well, I saw the movie last night and I was very impressed. The camera style was a little blair-witch-esq, however instead of really using a crappy camera and making people throw up, they did a great job of using a great camera and making it look like a camcorder. That was the best part of all.
The fact that the monster was secondary to the main plot was interesting as well, and that a lot went unanswered because of that.
I think that this will effectively work as one big trailer for a monster-centric movie.
Thumbs up from me, and I would definatly see it again. Best part for me was the initial inceidents on the roof and in the street. Very cool stuff.

I thought the movie was awesome and was very entertaining. The filming was very well done.
I think they could have made it a little more intense. Also, I was kinda disappointed at the end that I didn't get any answers to what happens, but I guess the ending they had was probably the best.

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking. That's why I believe it's probably the best ending for the movie because if they kept going it probably would have gotten corny.

Lol @ everyone dying. I saw the movie last night, was pretty good. I like how it had that amateur-ishness effect to it. Looking back, they didn't fly the helicopter over the monster, they were still the same distance from when it was bombed, it just happened to attack them.
Also, at the end when Hud gets... ripped in half? It shows the breathing sacks on either side of the monsters head. Why the hell didn't the military shoot at that... >.> lol.
That was the first real monster movie I have seen... perhaps ever. By monster I mean gigantic movie thing. Its basically how Godzilla should have been.

"Abrams’ production company Bad Robot is located on West Olympic Blvd. in Santa Monica, California. The office is located just minutes away from the Santa Monica Airport and Clover Field Blvd. Santa Monica Airport was also originally called Clover Field. The first successful flight around the world took off from and returned to Clover Field in 1924.
Abrams has been known to use inside references as the code-names for projects. For example, earlier this month we learned that some of the on location production of Cloverfield was using “Slusho” as it’s undercover film title. Hardcore fans of Abrams’ Alias may remember as the Slurpee-type beverage that Vaughn offers to Sydney in the second episode of the series.
So there you go. That’s the best answer we have thus far."

I went into the movie hoping it was going to be good, but thinking it was going to suck bc since it was so built up it was never going to live up to anyones expectations. In the end I don't think it sucked but I also don't think it was amazing.
The thing that pisses me off the most (besides the ending) is that no questions were answered whatsoever. I kind of assumed they wouldnt be answered beforehand since it was being told 1st person instead of a narrative, but they couldve popped up at the end (like they did at the beginning when it stated this "camera was retrieved at the site"... blah blah blah) with a sentence or 2 saying where it came from or what happened to the city or even some type of hint to what happened to beth & rob or the monster. Rob saying "its still alive" just after he had a bridge collapse on him isnt enough for me lol
Im mad they didnt answer any questions is bc i know they aren't going to make a second one.
Most people and critics are ripping the movie apart, as most people do when a movie is hyped up bc it never lives up to their high set expectations. They only make sequels when they think/know the people that saw the 1st one will return to see the 2nd. I think about 50% would see a sequel. Maybe a few more if some of the haters that saw it were that curious. Otherwise we'll never know how it got there or what happened afterwards.
And on another note, this turned out to actually kinda look like the monster. Looks like it even has 6 legs/arms like (i think?) the monster did...

The piece falling into the ocean during the ferris wheel scene makes sense if you read that link I posted awhile back from the tagruato website (tagruato was the company of the oil tanker that exploded in the beginning of the movie). Under their headline "Hatsui Satellite Works for the Futura," it stated they launched their own satellite and they had recently saw an object, supposedly a piece that was "thought to have fallen off" of a Japanese satellite, and that it fell into the atlantic ocean and they were trying to recover it.
Now the Tagruato website has been closed and when you try to access it, a page with this pic pops up, and when you click on the image to copy the address you can see the jpeg file was named "tag_final," so I doubt they will be answering any questions thru that site.

That would be true if a sequel or prequel will actually be made. But you really think one will be made considering the movie is pretty much being ripped apart by critics and viewers?
They set up the movie for a sequel just incase the movie was a hit, problem is... it wasnt.
I also think that most of the people that are complaining how bad the ending was, didnt hear the audio clip after the credits. I'll admit, I was bitching as soon as the movie ended, but after I heard the audio clip it gave me a little but of hope lolol

1) The whole "guy with a camera for the first 30 min." you're talking about is called plot development. Were you just expecting nonstop action after the first 5 minutes of the movie with no background on the characters?
2) We do know where it came from, read the rest of this thread
3) We do know what cloverfield has to do with the movie, read the rest of this thread
4) The movie wasn't supposed to be completely realistic with the whole helicopter/injured people. It's a movie about a freaking monster

"thats so stupid he went back to save his girl"
i hear that alot...like if your ****ing brother and friends and half the city are dead, you are most likely going to die...you are saying you would just let your love die without trying to help?
"you have no idea what happened"
i thought the whole point of it was that like you are seeing just about exactly what the characters are seeing. did they really know much more about the situation?
i dunno i think people nowadays are demanding movies to be as realistic as possible. if that was the case, they would make a movie about these people at a party and their friend leaves for japan and then they get drunk, wake up hungover and go get some coffee. is that as entertaining as a ****ing monster tearing apart the city?! it was so intense!
movies are meant for entertainment
1) The whole "guy with a camera for the first 30 min." you're talking about is called plot development. Were you just expecting nonstop action after the first 5 minutes of the movie with no background on the characters?

I really enjoyed the movie. it was hyped up and it followed through IMO. It was unique, immersive, thrilling, suspenseful and even confusing. It was a thinking mans movie as they say. There was alot to be left answered but it made it more interesting. The monster is def badass looking and was def alot cooler then i thought it was gonna be. As for the ending, if you think about it, it really couldnt answer any other way, they all died. That was it, monster won the battle and was still alive, maybe there will be a second one but i doubt it. The camera wasnt that bad, it was tolerable. The acting was also very good even though most of the actors were amatuers. I really liked the movie and after reading the IGN review i agree with everything. I dont know why people are hating and saying it wasnt good, it was different. You can't say it was boring and it really made you feel like you were there. It was def an experience seeing it and most movies i see i wouldnt call an experience. It felt like i was at Universal Studios on one of them big rides with the movie screens.

Great movie, end of story.
There are a lot of narrow minded people when it comes to movies. Why don't we know anything about the monster or the attack, or any background? Umm.. did the characters???? That's the point. To build suspense, and keep the wondering human doing what he does best... wondering. If people hate the movie, they just don't like the style or genre the movie is. A Sci-Fi thriller isn't for everyone.

Soooo many people that enjoyed this movie are getting just a little too upset when someone says "It sucked", or anything remotely like that. And not a single one of us, that don't like the movie, are saying anything about the people that liked it.
I personally like stories with a resolution, I like to know whats going on, how things work. I prefer answers more than I prefer questions. Some people like to keep wondering about stuff, I like to know.
I'm not quite sure how that makes me, or others that didn't appreciate this movie, narrow minded.
PS: I'll still be out your way for a Helio once I get accustomed to my new pay schedule.

Not you.. you seemed to have grasped the idea of the movie, and its genre. But some of the replies I read just make me want to put my head into a mirror numerous times.

Lol at people getting mad at peoples opinions...
Those calling people who dislike the movie narrow minded are actually the narrow minded ones.
I liked the movie and like that they're many possible ways for them to do a sequel which I will put 1000 internet dollars up that says they will. Also believe a lot of people who disliked it will go see it just for the answers.

I'm not mad.. at all.. hahaha. And I didn't mean just people on TST were narrow minded, but people that wrote opinionated reviews of it on movie sites.. it's just ridiculous how many people are mad they werent given more information. What's the point in that? You are supposed to be as ignorant to the situation as the actors are. You learn as they learn. I guess people that hated this movie are the same people that hated The Matrix Trilogy.
And no, I'm not narrow minded at all.. I can pull ideas, interesting thoughts, and themes out of movies, and understand what the movie creaters were trying to do in this movie. Some people can't seem to think outside of the box in the slightest bit.
On the other hand of things, when the Empire State building and other buildings were collapsing, did anyone think of 9/11? That scene was nuts, it almost seems like they did it that way to create the sense of fear people felt on 9/11.

It seemed that way, yes.

I want a sequel that gives more insight into the monster and the little monsters. I want to know what their bites do. I'm not 100% convinced they just explode.
This style of movie is right up Abrams alley. I fully expect there is more than what was shown and what was blatant. People scream "isn't it obvious blah blah blah"... they fail to take into account that Abrams set this movie up like this hit series Lost, which I'm not a fan of either.
I do hope this is just the start of monster movies though. :)

I'm with you on wanting to know more about the monster and the little guys and everything else that was unanswered. I think that's why I like this movie, it leaves a lot to be answered and has me wanting more.
Which makes jj abrams a very smart man...

I was reading an article online the other day ( I think it was ign.com) about how Abrams was saying he was very open to a second movie.
Hopefully it will happen.

Odd......I went to watch this movie at Neshaminy AMC theater and throughout the movie I see a lot of people leave and then one person didn't make it and vomitted near the stairs -_-"
I kinda like the movie but then I felt light headed from all the shaking of the camera even though that's the whole part of the movie which is from the camcorder the army found.
The military vs. monster scenes are freakin crazy too. how about when the monster stomps the tank like it was a bug... oh man.

Doug this is america, so people are allowed to have their own opinions about the movie, no matter how retarded their opinions are.
If you couldn't tell by the preview that it was some guy with a handi-cam filming the movie, then it's your own fault for saying the movie sucked because of the filming.
Although I had to put my head down for the first couple of minutes because I was getting sick.

The movie theater out here in KS that I went to had a warning sign in the lobby where you give your tickets for people prone to motion sickness, etc.

Yeah... unfortunately I understand that.. haha. I didn't have any sickness problems or anything watching the film, but I did see a few people leave pretty quickly.

Just watched this movie on Friday and I have to say that I loved it. It was great action with a solid story and enough unanswered questions to keep you wanting more.

KK.
Been watching clips and the propaganda behind it.
I STILL don't see the thing in the water at the end.
Anyone want to tell my eyes where they should be focusing?
