Question, what gym do you go to? I remember you saying you live somewhere around Cottman? I'm looking for something local to me, Elkins Park, basically up the street in the boonies from Cottman. Cuz I go to B&R now but its a hike from here if I'm not at work.

for beginners especially, I suggest a simple 3 day split.

day 1 - chest/shoulders/triceps
day 2 - legs/abs
day 3 - back/bis

I can't stress enough the importance of compound movements for strength and size.. always start with those first and then move onto isolation movements if you want..

example:

day 1:
flat bb or db press - 2 sets 10
incline bb or db press - 2 sets of 10
dips (+/- weights if you need them) - 3 sets of 8
seated dumbbell press - 2 sets 10
front raises - 2 sets 12
overhead db tricep extensions - 2 sets 8
skull crushers - 2 sets 10

day 2:
squats (heavy or moderate depending if you're going to do deadlifts on day 3 that week) - 3 sets 8
leg press - 2 sets 8, then a widowmaker (which is a set of 20).. don't do the widowmakers every week, they can be taxing on your cns

stiff-leg deadlifts (if you're not going deadlifts on day 3) - 2 sets 8
otherwise, lying leg curls - 3 sets 8
abs - whatever situps, leg/knee raises, etc

day 3:
deadlifts - 3 sets of 8
barbell rows - 2 sets 8
wide grip pull-ups/pull-downs - 3 sets 8
hyperextensions - 2 sets 10-15
any sort of curls - 3 sets of 8



that's just one suggestion.. there are many other beginner workout programs on bodybuilding.com if you're not comfortable with the one above.. but if you decide to go for something else, I suggest always throwing in movements such as squats, deadlifts, and dips.. KEY lifts!
