Looking for a VW Golf TDI preferably newer than 2000. Doesn't matter if it is a 2 door or a 4 door, and auto or manual.

Thought about it but its a little too old. I'd prefer working with a newer 1.9T. I found one but the bank wasn't willing to work with a car with a reconstruction title.

beware of the auto trannys. From what I hear they are junk.

my brother test drove a 1.8t that was auto before he bought his 5speed one..boy what a difference..the 1.8t auto trannies are a pain in the ass..it conastantly feels like the car needs to be downshifted, and belive it or not, u can feel the turbo lag on those cars at low rpms..even though the turbo is only this big (O) haha.. and the auto really ruins it for the drive of the car, its annoying..so i would definatley go with 5 speed..its much better

I have an 02 Jetta TDI 5 speed that was just traded into the dealership I work at. PM me for more info since I'm not a vendor and don't want to make any of the mods mad.
im looking to sell mine, its a jetta though, 62k miles, leather, heated seats, 6 disc, manual, certified, warranty until 75k miles, and all that good stuff.
if you are looking for a golf, unfortunately you cant get a 2 door tdi.

Actually you can. Before my dad purchased his 02 TDI, he test drove a 00-01 TDI 2-Door. I havent seen very many of them but they do exist. (Didn't buy it because it was used and like 4-5K less than a new one.

TDIClub might also be a good place to check/ask around.

the 4-speed auto is crap.
make sure it's been fed a steady diet of synthetic, and get the intake cleaned.

Another thing u might want to watch for in the 00-02 models is the turbos, on my Dad's TDI he had to replace it at like 101K, didnt help that my brother drove it hard then would turn it off right away.

driving the TDI hard is better for the turbo than driving it gently. The majority of the problems with the turbo with the VNT mechanism sticking and it is attributed to babying the turbo.
