I have been trying to figure out who the local Supra guys are this past week and it was kind of difficult which seems silly for such a large local community. Made me think we should have a role call for each make just so you know who to go to for help with things or just to know who else is out there.
So... Supra guys, check in...

List make, model, year, color, mods if you want, post a pic if you want, and post your general area if you feel comfortable with that.

Just picked up a black 94 Supra TT 6MT. Its not running now but will be by the spring. Has a handful of mods which I probably wont be adding much to yet at least, but its making the most of the stock turbos. You wont see me in it just yet since its not running but I live in the Langhorne/Newtown, PA area...

here's what it looks like although I dont know if I'll be keeping the wheels or not...

Brian you're a lucky SOB :D. Please tell me you didn't take those pics LOL. I've been waiting for a good deal for a while... If you don't want the wheels, I might take them off your hands for a good price. I think they should fit my IS.

Congrats on the purchase. Once you get it running, you would love every minute of it. It's like Christmas everyday (well, maybe not in the winter). Also, join www.supraforums.com. There are always meets and they're a good bunch of guys. Oh man, I forgot to add... the car is such an attention whore, not really from the ladies, but from all guys- muscle, tuner, exotic... it's pretty awesome... much respect for the Supra :) Here are some pics

Not exactly mine, it my little brother's, but I'm building it for him and drive it for the most part.

It's got a basically stop 7mgte, ARP studs, new stock head gasket, every possible thing that isn't needed is stripped from the engine besides extra wiring which will be done this winter.

It's got the prototype TIP Engineering Spring/Damper setup on there (best suspension for the Mk3 or mk4 supra), TIP steering spacers, big boy wheels, 18x9.5+12 all around. I will be putting a crazy cage in there and redoing all the wiring and getting rid of the rest of the stuff that isn't needed. Car will be under 3k lbs with the cage and in race trim. That's about it for now, it will be getting a bunch of stuff done over the winter and hopefully paint before the season starts.

PLEASE DON'T PUT THAT STOCK HEAD GASKET ON THAT 7M!!!!!

go metal. 1.2mm hks if your head is good and never been shaved
stock headgasket will give you a problem when you add boost, shim the gate etc.
I waited 3 more days for my mhg. you should too.
horsepowerfreaks.com
100 bucks. MHG ( metal head gasket) is manditory for any moded 7m!!!!
take it from MR. rodknock

7mgte

blown hg = bad rod bearings + rod knock =

What are you talking about, the stock head gasket is fine at moderate power levels. The only reason there was ever a problem with the 7m and blowing head gaskets was too low of a head bolt torque from the factory. The stock head gasket with ARP studs is good for a little bit. It will be fine for all the power I plan on making on the stock turbo.

Metal head gasket isn't necessary and it takes a lot more work to make sure it will seal. You need to really check the block or get it decked and make sure it's good and you have to make sure the head is good as well, but that's easier and should be done anyway.

And what does "blown hg = bad rod bearings + rod knock = " mean? Rod knock and blown headgasket are totally different things that have totally different causes.

The way you were talking it seamed you were not going to heep it stock. if you are then ignore my mhg rant.
but if your going to boost more than 10 lbs. you might want to consider what I'm saying.
shimming the wastegate and intake exhaust will put you there or very close.
Thats all free stuff. now get a mbc and your looking at?
it's too easy!!!!

mhg- It is a good ideal to checkthe head. if you never had a bhg, you should be ok.
I had one and I got lucky because I didn't let it run hot long. "head suffered no warpage. I just slaped mine on torqued to 100 lbs. of torque.
You put it on the same way as the stocker. arp's are
the way to go, no doubt. do not use the book 52 lbs. of torque.
some say 85, 75, 100 lbs. but at least 75.

and finnalllllly

bhg- coolant leaks in oil,

coolent erodes the bearing (bearings are very sensitive to coolent)

now bearing are shot. ..... you hear a noise.

you have a problem.

look man, our car takes to well to mods. before you know it you will be pushing that gasket to the limit.
it would be a shame if you have to go through what I have.
A wize man would concider what I said but, maybe I'm just talking out my ass. Eventhough I had to rebuild a year old jdm 7mgte new crank, connecting rods, and pistion rings and wrist pins. Because coolent leacked in the #6 pistion and into my oil pan. I paid dearly for that mistake.

The car is not going to stay stock, but the 7m isn't going to stay around for long.

But the stock head gasket, torqued properly with a good mating surface and good hardware isn't not going to blow as easy as you think. I don't know where you're getting your info, but someone is misleading you. If it's just from personal experience, then maybe you're doing something wrong because I've heard of a lot of people pushing good power out of a stock head gasket.

With a MHG, it's not just a good idea to check the head, it's necessary. It's also necessary to check the block. I hope for your sake that you did otherwise there's a good chance you will have sealing problems.

And if you have a blown head gasket long enough to spin a bearing and you didn't realize, then maybe you need to pay more attention to the car. Bearings don't disolve when exposed to anti-freeze, it takes some time for the anti-freeze to thin the oil enough to cause problems.

once you get a fuel cut defenser you can go up past 10. I hear people take the stocker to 18 lbs. breifly. 15 is what people normally stop at. I just feel it's best to be safe. even if you don't go crazy but I think your gonna want to be safe. it's just too easy to reach the limit. then when you get their you'll start worrying. will this be the day? Thats living in fear. If your putting a roll cage in a supra...you got to be kidding me you wouldn't even think of going MHG. I would advise you to look at supramania.com. I hope you listen to what I'm saying. you will always want more power, face it you got a supra. not a 86 corolla.
It might help to let us know what your plans for the car. drifting, street, etc?

I wrote a lot telling you that you were wrong, but I lost it all by mistake, so just pretend this says a lot more words.

Here's a thread, http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41998&highlight=stock+head+gasket+limit

I'm running stock turbo, not upgrading it, on stock head gasket with good hardware and everything else solid. I have no worries about blowing out the head gasket due to power levels.

And while you're on supramania, look at who the subject matter expert is for suspension and vehicle dynamics. I do know a couple things about these cars.

I also know that the 7m is going to stay for long, it's getting replaced with something bigger and better and more awesome than anyone will ever imagine. So there's no reason for me to do more to the 7m than I need to for now.

Thanks SupraJDS.

The stock head gasket with arp studs is more than fine for the boost that the ct-26 can produce. Also the ct-26 at 15lbs will not last long at all most people don't push them past 12lbs. After about 14lbs on a rebuilt one even its just blowing hot air. (by the way I'm Wiisass's brother so its my car) So when we get a fresh ct-26 and a boost controller (because shimming the waste gate is just a shot in the dark on how much boost you want to run) the stock head gasket will be plenty strong to hold 12lbs of boost.

It will be also good to mention that a properly done stock head gasket is much safer than a metal one that was just thrown on without checking both the block and head. This is independent of whether the engine is being rebuild from a blow head gasket or just for the hell of it. The main reason we didn't go metal was that first off the block was in the car and we didn't want to pull it if we were running stock boost. Secondly I was building the car on a 16 year olds budget so building an indestructible 600hp 7m wasn't anywhere close to an option.

I would also like to emphasis the point Wiisass made that the car is getting a cage and will see lots of track time and some street use. For these goals the 7m is too much of a hassle to deal with and too expensive to build right. So were going to keep it running as long as possible without spending too much on it and beat the **** out of it until it blows up. Then "something bigger and better and more awesome than anyone will ever imagine will take its place.

12-31-2007, 07:08 PM
The myth that there were MKIVs in U-pull it junkyards was busted about a year ago when someone found an NA. That's the only one I've heard of though. There's tons of them on junkyards that sell parts to the public, but most of them don't sell the entire car. Your best bet is to stay tuned (Ebay, SF, SM, etc) and when one comes up grab it. If you have access to auctions, that's a way also, but it will take time unless you're lucky.

TROLL
12-31-2007, 07:20 PM

Supraholic

right... If you're planning on keeping the car for a WHILE, I would suggest just buying the interior parts that you need from Toyota if you don't want aftermarket. Personally that's what I do with my Supra. I can get discounts at the local Toyota dealer. You can also become a member of the Supraforums or Supramania and get 20% discount through them.

If you're not, or would like to get used parts, you'll just have to hunt until you find them. It sucks I know...
If you go to junkyards that sell parts, they usually charge higher then the guys on the forums. I've seen at least 3 or 4 MKIV chassis for sale recently that I was considering purchasing myself...only if I had the time to work on them. I would say just hang tight and you'll probably find a banged up MKIV NA for like $4K or $5, or a chassis for about the same...that would probably be your best bet unless you need TT stuff.

I'll let you know if I come across anything.

hmm i dont know exactly. does he have a list of what he's going to be parting out?

is the exhaust manifold the same fitment? if so, what does he have?
and what kind of fuel system does he have? rails, injectors, etc too.
upper radiator pipe with black couplers...
what kind of turbo?

i dont know, let me know what else he's parting and what would fit a 2J... thanks.

he said to coming from a single turbo owner to keep it stock, get a boost controller and get tuned... and i hate to quote him cause it pokes fun at us "it will romp any sti any day"
but to answer your questions
the exhaust mani has different fitment
i know he has upgraded injectors...he wont tell me right now
radiator is only part that was messed up
his turbo is a T68

IDK how much you know bout supras (i know your knowledge is extensive with subarus) but he's always down at my house so i know he'd help ya out with any questions

for troll:

Common parts between the 2JZ and 1JZ
- Power steering pump
- Alternator
- Spark plugs (ngk 3330 and 6097)
- US spec 550cc injectors (resistor pack needed)
- JDM Spec 440cc injectors (drop in upgrade)
- Water Pump (requires removal of the 1J hydro fan and a 2J pulley)
- Head gasket (although most other gaskets do not swap, get a 1J set to do it right)
- Clutch fan (if you use a MKIV water pump and pulley)
- Serpentine belt (but NOT timing belt - see below)
- Oil filter and relocation kits
- Intercooler kits
- Plug coils
- Cam gears (incl aftermarket adjustable)
- JDM 2JZ Map sensor
- Ignitor
(edit: some more added info)
1) The rod and main bearings.
2) The head bolts, crank and rod bolts from stock or ARP either bolts or studs w/nuts.
3) The pistons including the wrist pins, wrings and locks.
4) The head gasket, stock or aftermarket.
5) stock side feed or after market side feed high ohm injectors. Low ohm injectors require wiring in the 7M or preferably 2JZ injector resistor pack.
6) Water pump and housing when replacing the hydro fan to electric or clutch fan.
7) Cams are normally not interchangeable with out some grinding on the 2JZ cam and having it spun balanced, HKS, Jun and Blitz all make 256, 264, and 272 cams for the 1JZ.
8) Cam shims, springs, retainers, Valves and springs, along with buckets are interchangeable.
9) turbos are not directly interchangeable and require a degree of machining to swap out the 12As for 12b.

Honestly...his engine, the stand alone ecu, and interior parts were great. But the body of that car needed sooo much work probably the main reason he got rid of it. The engine was beast one reason he went after the volvo...trust me its killing him that he totaled that car. But like i said to troll lemmie know what you need so i can let him know. But word to the wise if your ever thinking bout going big single or just you doing that swap now i would relocate you battery to the trunk now...makes it 10 times easier in the long run. His engine bay in the supra was soo tight makes it a b*tch to work on. And he has a body kit...i forget the name of it. (the kid he sold the supra to never came and got it). jsut lemmie know

and let me know about the fuel stuff from gas tank to injectors.

i'd probably keep the stock twins but there's a fair chance at least some of the components (solenoids, valves, etc) are damaged and i dont want to spend money to restore it to stock when i'll probably just aim for more power down the road anyway. planning to do a small single for now though so its all good.

Troll, if you need stock injectors, fuel rail, pump hanger (no pump, I use two Supra pumps), complete stock twin turbo setup, stock exhaust ...probably stuff I'm not remembering... one front and one rear spring/shock assembly, I gave one each of my "perfect condition" front and rear spring/shock assemblies to GSC prior to OneLap so they can use them as patterns to have custom coilovers made. You can get a AEM tru boost guage or a power enterprise one, they both combine a boost guage and a controller in one, and they will fit in your stock clock location lol

Ebay has HKS Super Dragger style exhaust from time to time which goes for 400 i think I don't remember, but with a downpipe and exhaust and 18psi of boost, expect close to 160 extra hp:) And don't forget to reset your ecu lol, your car could be in limp mode and you would never know.

I ran my supra with a open downpipe for awhile, not loud at all, the smell was the worse part, but the turbo keeps it quieter then a v8 mustang or whatever.

making your car fast is always best slowly. it's like making love to a woman, you have to go in nice, slow and easy That way you get to know her to break her in, let her get use to your size. then once your use to her and she's use to you. hit it a little harder and harder gradually until your at full strength.

She will respect you for that. If you force it all at once you just might get only one date.

I haven't been around much lately, but I'm pretty excited. After some douchebag hit my car 87 turbo in a parking lot, leaving a dent on my door, I've been pretty much unable to really get things fixed up right, but by the end of next month I should have:

1) either a new door put on, or the dent repaired to be as good as new.
2) every vacuum and water hose replaced
3) all belts replaced
4) a reclaimed use of the cig lighter (it was stolen to run the timer)
5) new sensors everywhere, alongside a new boost gauge

and new paint everywhere

I was intending on going for a simple metallic black color

SO much excitement I can barely contain it.

I can't wait for the real nice weather to come, so I can rip off the top, on a freshly painted, gorgeous piece of supra, and cruise

If I can get my brother's car done by then, maybe we'll come down. But it might be a stretch in terms of time, still have way too much to do and buy for that thing.

I checked out the thread for it on SupraMania...am i going to be the only MKIV if I do come? That thread is dominated by MKIII guys.

there should be a couple of mk4's, supramania is pretty bias to mk3s....

So hopefully I'll meet some of you guys, too. Since it's less than 10 min. from my house I'm going to try to make it ...add one to the mkiv minority. I can't believe I checked that link at supramania and it recognized me with my screen name, so I must have registered there a long time ago since I don't recall ever being on that forum.

supramania is getting more mk4 traffic now adays which is good, good to see more of a variety...i like it better than SF only because of the people. Not as many trolls and assholes on sm as on sf.

BTW Nick, love your car man!

ha yeah i got banned... but after about 2 months and about a half dozen PMs and emails I finally got a mod to respond to me and he let me back on that username! so look for me on SF as TROLL now as well :)
oh and i went over to the supra tonight to treat the small rust spot under the battery... i was only over there for a little bit but hey progress is progress.

I remember that. He PM'd me to see if I could pull some strings :help: to allow him to keep his name but even my "elite status" wasn't enough, the mods said "just have him pick a different name" ...poor troll

edit: wow, dude. Congrats on getting it done. Now you are the troll again! Glad they went in your favor.

ugh, my mk3 is going to be out of commission indefinitely. The bearings are shot, the crank needs to be reground, rods and pistons are going to need replacement. Oil pan somehow broke open on the highway, engine seized.

It's new engine, or nothing, and I can't afford new engine at this point....

When the money presents itself to me, it's going to be a 1 or 2jz swap. No more 7m blows. However, for the time being, I'm in the beater-civic full-time, while the supra sits in the garage

Meet is at Belmont Plateau from early lunchtime onward ...you know where that is? Fairmount Park...get off the Schuykill Expy at Montgomery Drive (between Girard and City Ave.) head up the hill (not down toward the river drive). Before you get to the next light you'll see fields on your right, make the first major right not into a driveway...somewhere back there ...actually here's empera's map he posted:

Well yeah I was there, but I didn't have the supra back then. That was Tom Henderson. I had a convertible 300zx back then. But yes I do remember you lol.

I don't know him super close, but I do know Tom H well enough that I know you're not him. But I think I was mixing you up with somebody who had a Supra back then that he was working on/cleaning up, but then I think he sold it. ...that little meet always brings back fond memories of the Audi TT that was showing off in front of us, lost it, and wiped out his suspension on a high curb. Stupid showing off FTL!

4x4 FTW!

for sure ...but I don't have any good pics of when we were all blasting around on the dirt roads and flying thru the air over the humps trying to avoid all the off-road boulders. I didn't know Supras could do that, it was fun! :-p

Supra's Suck!

Just kidding, you guys have some nice rides. I was placing bids on a repoed JDM 95tt, but it was automatic. It went for E6,000 at the K-Town auction (about $9,500) I gave up early and then the car sold, I was so pissed! One day:mrgreen:
