I would get the base model with the 304hp v6, do suspension mods to make it a killer track car and probably talk to Ray about a turbo kit for it... so luxury I'm not too concerned about...
Or I'd keep it stock and mod the srt-4 if I didn't trade it in...
I've been thinking about this car a lot and I think I need to test drive it. I'm 24 now, I'll be 25 in April... I think I found myself a birthday present...

My credit sucks right now... so I'm gonna wait till at least my 25th to clean that up and really consider it...
I think a nice cadillac at 25 = more pussy than an srt-4... na da nicer car all around :)

I'd love to. I'd probably ditch the SRT though... I need to buy a house in a couple years and stop renting. But thats ok, I'm going to build a cobra after I buy a house w/ a two-car garage

305 hp is alright... but 400 would be better :)
But seriously, I'm really not worried about power since I WILL be building a cobra... and I WILL be buying a 427 ford crate motor for it...
There really isn't anything else at the price range of the CTS I'm interested in...

25 with bad credit wanting a caddy = stupid idea. Keep the SRT and look into a house first if thats your plan instead of a car thats gonna lose value. The CTS is a nice car but isn't anything special for the price. Id grab a 335 coupe over the CTS. I test drove one over the summer and its a typical GM car.

Apparently my credit isn't bad, its just a lot of it I haven't been able to pay in the last year due to my financial situation. Theoretically, I could pay it all off in 2 weeks... but I don't want to be broke

Cadillac's in general do have that "old man" image. But I think the CTS is being aimed at the younger crowd... ie: the 30 somethings

I've been told my credit score isn't horrible, but its the delinquent payments that are hurting me. My debt to income ratio is very much in my favor now. I have under 2k debt in credit cards (not taking into account the car itself) that I haven't been able to pay for the last 3-6 months due to not being able to pay rent + stupid bills.

My debt is less than $2,000 in minor credit cards. The only reason I'd have trouble right now is due to late payments or no payments due to my financial situation when I moved in with my now ex-gf a year ago. I make a ****astic amount of money as a contract web developer, and was offered fulltime employment come january, where I will be making even more.
My debt will be paid off well in advance of me even considering a new car.
So my finances will be fine before spring/summer 08 when I begin to look more closely and seriously at getting a new car. I also plan on taking a good hard look at my finances and monthly expenditures and come up with a savings plan with a new car, and without a new car, to take into account how long it would take me to save 10% for a downpayment on a house, or a plot of land for which to build a house :)
I'm may look it, but I'm no dummy. :)

Sick? The only real thing they have that is sick IMHO is the tranny..amazing piece..but they are playing catch up to the other cars in its class (namely the RS4, M3, etc).

10% is useless for a downpayment on a house, if you cant do 20 dont bother. also just some advice get your house and all that worked out before you buy a car. just my advice being someone who just bought a house.

LMAO....I kid I kid.
I don't like Cadillacs really, never did actually. They are ok. But I say, if you really want a car, then it doesn't matter how old or young you are. If you can afford it without strapping yourself, and if it's what you want, then go for it.
I just wouldn't do a Caddy.

I am a huge fan of the new CTS and will be picking up a used CTS-V in early '08 to replace the GTO. The person who said they are typical GM cars is either biased or drove the base model of the old CTS, not the new one or the V. In that case the car is a legitimate competitor to BMW/Audi/Mercedes and from a price point blows those cars away. So, if the car is within your means and you want it, go for it.
However, as someone who is currently going through the process of buying a house, if you have any intentions of buying a house in '08 you shouldn't buy the car. I am actually selling my GTO outright and not replacing it right away so that I can better leverage my DIR and credit to get the best interest rate possible. I can afford both the house and my car payment, but the key is to maximize your ability to buy the real estate under the best circumstances possible. If I was you I would pay off all your debt, don't open any new loans, then buy your real estate and then look for the car. Buying that Caddie 6 months before you buy your house could cost a couple points on the mortgage, especially since you already have some marks on your credit.
Just my .02 cents.

I am not going to hijack this thread and make it an IS-F vs M3 vs RS4... I was just voicing my opinion on the car of his choice. I just like the IS-F and I think it can fit his needs, ie power, luxury, reliability, etc. I agree with the posts here regarding buying the house first, then the car.... Good luck!

I've been REALLY thinking hard about a used CTS-V, so no, you're not too young. They are fun cars, that are built "better than average" when it comes to domestics. I think that I like the CTS-V better than the E46 M3, especially in terms of after market and operating costs.

The CTS-V would be the older style, and you can get an 05 with about 10,000 miles on it for under $30,000 rather easily.

The new V model will be out the end of 2008 as a 2009. The car is rumored to be powered by the same 6.2L sc'd engine that is going into the new ZR-1 Vette (I believe the GM speak for the motor is LSA). It should come out with between 500 and 600 hp from what everyone is saying, but the cost will be 70k+. It will also offer the choice of manual or automatic 6 speeds. From a pure acceleration stand point it will blow the doors off of a RS4/M3/IS-F. Hell, it will blow the doors off of a M5, which in terms of size is more of a competitor to the CTS. That's always been the CTS' selling point, 5-series size for 3-series money.

I'm still not certain of the LS9 rumor to be honest; i've seen way too many LS7 rumors to really fuel that.
NJGOAT
12-18-2007, 11:40 AM
You're right it's LS9, not LSA. Most of the boards, including the CTS-V ones are saying LS9 and that was also reported in MT and CD. The original thought was that they would use the LS7. I personally think either option would be fine and in the long run would prefer the LS7 as it should make the car less expensive. However, I think they will need the LS9 to compete with the Euro sedans, particularly the AMG's.
ozthunder
12-18-2007, 11:44 AM
Yea but look at this way- they probably won't do what Holden's going to do, and HSV is probably salivating over the LS9 like hounds. It'd also probably cannibalize somethings as well.
And I don't trust MT one bit..they had a rumor about the GTO like 2 months ago, and the actual rumor dated from 2 or so years ago.
MT/CD..go to places like motorauthority and worldcarfans.com. Or even egmcarupdate (or whatever that one is). MUCH better than mag rumors.
NJGOAT
12-18-2007, 03:45 PM
I certainly don't use MT and CD for all of my automotive knowledge. I tend to only really read up on cars that I personally care about, one of which happens to be the CTS, particularly the V. The LS9 info is coming from the Cadillac forums. It has been rumored from the day that the LS7 first came out that it may be used in the next gen CTS. However, the most recent information and spy photos have people leaning toward the LS9. Mainly because they have added a "power bulge" in the hood reminiscent of the STS-V and the theory is that it is there to clear the supercharger. Not to mention that the assembly line that made the LS7 is going to be producing the LS9.
In all honesty, Cadillac could give a rats ass about what Holden wants or does. Caddy will get the first choice of any engine or platform that they want. If anything, the only thing that it would prevent is Pontiac porting a Holden over here with the same engine in the same class of car. Two things are always consistent at GM...the Corvette and Cadillac division are number one.

Confirmed at least in part on the 6.2L sc'd motor. Oh, and although I wasn't 100% sure, the new sc'd 6.2L is the "LSA" at least according to these guys, but I have heard both designations used on the LSx forums.

Eh, i've seen waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many sources saying LS9 in reference to the ZR1.
Nice call on the S/C'd, however, you're forgetting that without Holden the Zeta platform would be a whole lot ****tier, and that plays a huge part in "who gets what".

I still say that new the CTS-V will come standard with the LS7, with an "amg like" package that will offer the LS9/A.
It doesn't make sense, financially and performance wise, that they would make the CTS-V come standard with the LS9. The LS7 will already put it ahead of the M3 (and the M5), S4 (and the RS4 and 7), and most any other mid size sedan anywhere in the world. It will also be on par with the E63, again, with the LS7, for a fraction of the price.
On the other hand....
XLR-V....with the LS9? That's an SL63 killer right there!
No, its a terrific car, but not luxury b/c America doesn't make luxury cars.
