For those who are interested, pick up a copy of Motor Trend’s January issue and flip to page 116. So far, I believe this may be the first on track comparison (Reno-Fernley Racetrack in Nevada) between the 9 and 10. I’m sure more will follow. The vehicles used for the test were a pre-production Evo X GSR (5-speed manual, KYB suspension, larger Brembos) vs. an Evo IX and a long term test Evo IX MR.

Interesting comments for each car.

yeah I heard the IX is better, plus I think it looks a lot better when compared to the X.

Wow thats uh...

Uh...

Isn't the new Evo supposed to have an advanced AWD? Similar to the Skylines, but not as advanced? Maybe I'm wrong, but thats still pretty hard to do in an AWD drive car.

Yeah, it looks pretty crazy but the VIIIs and IXs were also able to wiggle their wheels around in the air during hard cornering.

This track could also favor the IX’s power to weight ratio which maybe why it came out on top in this test. (I’m unfamiliar with this track.) But the review on both cars I thought was positive. Both are great for different reasons.

i read a comparo of a pre production in maybe SCC vs the 9 and they claimed that even tho the 10 is heavier and slower it runs better track times bc its more of a focues drivers car (read : what matters more than HP)

but all the american buyers will see is a slower 0-60 so that means its not a better car.

they mention AYC and how it moves engine output side to side between the rear wheels and helps it to steer it around corners and how wicked better it is in the corners bc of it but.....americans wont care.

slower 0-60 and slower 1/4 mile means it must not be a better car, when underneath its worlds ahead. the 4B11 TC is leaps and bounds from the 4g63 technically and mechanically but the hardcore mitsu ppls wont care and everyone else will just see a slower car so....o well....

No, I like the new Evolution, I heard they dropped the Lancer name on the X and just call it an Evolution now kind of like the GTR dropped the Skyline name.

It's hot, I like the interior a whole lot more.

They said the IX is more of a pure driver's car, as in you need to know what you are doing to make it go fast. But the X is more of a almost anybody who can drive can look really good doing it kind of car.
