View Full Version : Accident :(
Well tonight on my way home from a basketball game i got into my first accident ever. The roads over here in the lehigh valley are absolutely terrible tonight and they got the best of me. I was literally 100 ft from my house in my neighborhood. I was slowly cornering around the final turn to my house when my front right tire lost traction at about 15mph. I do not know how or why this happened, as I was driving as cautiously as possible.
After I lost control of the car I slid into a tree in one of my nearby neighbor's houses. The impact knocked the tree over onto his driveway. I really have no clue what I'm supposed to do now..I'm only 17 and this is my first accident ever. Thank god I didn't hurt anyone including myself. I'm so angry at myself I don't know how this could've happened when I was being as cautious as I could.
I think I broke the front axle of my jetta, or the front right spring. The car couldn't be driven home so it's sitting on the side of the road. I'm just a poor 17 year-old and I'm going have to pay for everything..the towtruck, the tree, the car. The past year I've been saving my money and I have $1600, now it's all going to be wasted..all that hard work and this is what I get.
Sorry for venting, but I just felt the need to get this out. Time to say a prayer and go to sleep. Bless everyone, and please drive carefully.

Damn that sucks, sorry to hear that. I know how you feel last year I slid off the highway, after that I swore I was never driving my car again when it snowed or I was gonna get a beater.

Smile! No one was injured!
Don't beat yourself up too much, this stuff happens. The car can be fixed, a new tree planted. Ice/snow is no joke. No matter how cautious you drive, Mother Nature still owns you in the end.

Sorry to hear that bro. At least your ok. Thats all that matters. It could have been wrose, you could have hit a car or your airbags could have gone off, then you would totally be out of a car. Just consider your self greatful that thats all that broke on your car.

hmm that sucks, but it wont be too bad. i wouldnt contact your insurance company at all... that will cost you a lot more in the long run. you can get used oem replacement parts and fix it yourself, or pay a shop to do it. but believe me, paying for it out of pocket in a situation like this is probably going to be a lot cheaper than paying a deductable and then having your rates go up for the next few years.
good luck...

Hey man once you find out what is borked let me know, there are a few guys in area that have jetta parts cars sitting around and are likely looking to move some of the extra parts. That and plenty of parts can be had on the vortex, likely from guys close to the area.

Sucks man. I almost got wiped off the road today too comin home from BCCC. Light turned green, I start goin, and out of nowhere a maroon chevy minivan just blows the red parallel to me...if I was another 5 feet into the intersection, i would probbably be shopping for a new car soon. at least noone got hurt, thats what matters

that sucks dude but like what was said earlier, you'll have no problem finding used parts, and someone on here would probably be willing to help fix it for a couple bucks, and you will learn about the car too.

Thats extremely unfortunate man, hope everything works out in the end.
thanks guys. i still have to see whether or not we're going to be reporting it to the insurance company or just paying to fix it.

If it's not too serious, as you are already considering, do NOT report to insurance (so long as the neighbors aren't going to ask for money).
I was coming home from getting as with my girlfriend driving, and she went around the turn to my street at about 5 mph. Her car just went straight, but luckily, it got traction and eventually turned. As I stepped out of the car, my neighbor went around the same turn, also at about 5mph, and slammed right in to the curb. It ripped his bumper off, not sure what else. It's an accident and these things happen, and that's the reason why they say to stay off the road when it's icy. It's past the point of "drive carefully". Ice sucks, and sorry to hear about your first accident but at least it was minor and nobody was injured!

Update.
Car is not being reported. The CV Half-Shaft is borked and I'm getting an estimate to have it fixed now.

Hell, if you buy the parts and do the work yourself, you'll come out even cheaper. ;)
I got into an accident 2 years ago with my old truck, my '92 Trooper that was a hand-me-down from my mom. Had only 105k miles on it, and was in excellent shape. It did get horrible gas mileage though.
I made a stupid last-minute decision on my way to school one morning, and switched lanes. I checked, moved out, and then CRUNCH.
I should've checked that second time. This kid decided to jet around the slow line of traffic in the right hand lane, and he had not yet made his move when I looked. I ended up putting a nice gash down the side of a '95 Grand Cherokee, and I crunched my right front fender pretty good, and knocked the alignment out.
What sucked, is that the same fender had been repainted not even a year before because some stupid middle school girl rode off of the sidewalk without looking, luckily my mom swerved and missed running her over, but not before the girl slammed into the front fender on her bike, denting it, and also whipping back the antenna into the windshield and cracking the windshield.
I ended up locating a fender off of a '94 Trooper in South Jersey, picking it up, and getting it painted, and installing it myself. You can't tell the difference unless you really go over it with a fine-tooth comb. Best part? I ended up paying less than my $500 deductable to get it fixed.
First vehicles are for mistakes. Be glad you're not driving something more expensive, and also be glad it wasn't anything more serious.
