I'm pretty much set up for freestyle. I spend a lot of time in the park and a lot of rail activity. I ride goofy but feel completly comfortable bombing a hill switch. Being riding since 7th grade and have a house 10 miles from BB & JF.

Yeah, at the time I was spending alot of time in teh park. I was never really good at it but I had fun getting some air and doing some spins. That got boring and I hated all the little pirates who sit in the park acting like they are the next Shawn White.

Mountain creek isnt the best mountain. but it def. has one of the best board parks on the east coast. every year they out due themselves. this year they turned one of there mountains into the board park. so the whole mountain is one big park.

Yeah i was just going to say that..just don't go on weekend days. You will hate it. I'm a Creek local. Each year they progress a lot park wise, if that is what you are into. Some of their features are half-ass, like the stairset (the thing was so steep for the NYC jam, they had to tilt it back to fit some place on the mtn).
This yeah i hope they step up jump wise, last year was nothing special.

I only really ride Blue out in PA. I don't really like any of the other mountains...for the drive atleast. I've been to most of them. Blue just seems to be pretty decent for the most part...especially when the Sidewinder becomes the sidewinder park! I usually make a trip out to Vermont/NY's Hunter...and West Coast once a year. I get a better "fix" out there. Been riding about 10 years. I crave it.
I have:
All around/Park board: 158 Rome
Burton boots and bindings.
Powder board: 160 Sims
Sims boots and bindings.
I'd definately be down for a TST Sunday night trip to Blue.

before you go and buy a board i would definitely go n take a lesson or two with a rental...then when u decide u actually want to continue snowboarding go out n get board...n after going a few times u might have an idea of what u want to do (freeride/leisure or park)

HA HA HA out west. This is the ice coast man, it is a very rare day that there is not ice on the mountain, unless you want to take an 8 hour drive up to Jay peak in VT.
The best place to learn in my opinion is Blue. The lazy mile is a nice long run, not to steep, turns both ways so you can work on heel side and toe side. Once you get that you can hit up Paradise which is also very open, a little steeper but still very manageable. Or you could do what I did, go to the steepest hill and say bombs away.
I would pick a weekday before holiday vaca or after. Anytime during it is PIA to learn. You will have people constantly cutting you off and running into you.
I would highly recommend getting a good set of pants with some goretex. You will spend a good amount of time on your butt and it will get wet an annoying. If you can make it through the first day you will love it. Have fun!

depends on your weight and size...and the size of his board. Some good advice...if you've never been riding: don't be embarrassed to learn your first couple outings on a smaller board. It may not be the fastest...but heck, you probaly don't wanna go very fast if you cant carve, turn, or STOP! lol. I'm 6'3" and I learned (10 years ago) on a 145. I'm not recommending that size...just the idea of trying a smaller one than the recommended for height and weight. But deffinately don't purchase a board before you figure out if you can and like it!
Lol

^same advice i would give^ learning on a smaller board is quite helpful. you can search pretty easily to figure out what size board you need according to your height. tricky part is figuring out if you ride regular or goofy!

I'm going to Killington for the first time in a few weeks. Just how hard is that?
For comparison, I go to Blue Mountain quite often and can easily go down their double black diamonds. How does Killington's expert slopes compare to those?
scutzi128
12-04-2007, 11:56 PM
They are like 2 x harder..atleast the double black diamonds. Outerlimits is one of my favorite trails there. It is really steep and ungroomed and can be a real bitch when conditions are not ideal, but its fun when there is good snow. Devils fiddle is a real steep slope, but is rarley open because conditions are usually bad on it. Killington is a great place I'm sure you will have a blast.

I actually like Smugglers Notch (other half of Stowe). It's a bit north...but has awesome glade runs...(my favorite)! They also have the only tripple black diamond on the east coast. It's kinda cool to see the sign and entrance! Have to see it to know what I mean.

BEST glade run EVER for me...was up in Whistler...if your at the peak...head as far left as possible. You basically go off the back side of the mountain and it hits ungroomed/non-patrolled trails. Go through the trees through that whole are. Takes about 2 hours to get down when you take your time and have fun. WATCH OUT FOR THE GIANT HOLES THOUGH! Theres wells and streams that run under the snow.

Well the path I spoke of ^^^^...the first time I hit it...4 years ago, it was all ice one I got 1/4 the way down. It took me 4 hours to hit the bottom of the mountain, and I was no where near Whistler village any more, That was the end of that day, lol. Not to mention my edges were SHOT! When I went last year, there was 30 ft of snow up till when I was there. So powder was everywhere! YIPPEE!!!
~Brian~
12-05-2007, 11:14 AM
Speaking of edges, how often do you guys have yours sharpened?
scutzi128
12-05-2007, 11:14 AM
I usually have my phone too, but last time I went it got too cold and it would not work. I usually sharpen my skies at the end of every season depending how much I used them.
Shades of Gray
12-05-2007, 01:35 PM
Speaking of edges, how often do you guys have yours sharpened?
All depends really. Sometimes the beginning of the season. Also depends on where I ride. If its out here in the ICE coast, you need your edges sharp. I detune my edges when I go out west because you sink too quick with sharp edges in deep powder. But then again, that's why I have a powder board...a sweet, detuned, wide 160...I just float with that on powder!

Yea, I hear that. If you're riding mainly poconos...i'd probably take it the beginning of each season for a wax and sharpen.

lol, been to Whistler and Blackomb twice. Definately an AWESOME time. Get some guys together, to split the cost of a lodge. Stay right in the mountain area...ski in, ski out type is the best. I stay at my friends condo/time share...ski in, ski out...Right at the base of Whistler's high speed lift. You can either fly into Vancuver...and shuttle up, or do what I do...fly into Seattle, rent a car and drive up. For me, thats cheaper because I usually am buying 2 tickets...and into Vancuver is almost double already. And I would go this year, maybe next...but then forget 2010. The winter olypics will be there then. See, here's a pic we took of the olypic dude statue at Whistler Peak

Hey guys, I just want to make sure you all are skiing / riding safe and wearing helmets!
Back when I was still racing, I caught an edge and went off the trail. I hit the first tree with my skis, glancing off it. The tree spun me around just right to hit the back of my head on another tree - I was in a coma for a week, in the hospital for a month. I had to learn how to walk again, and my memory of that entire month as well as most of my childhood is completely gone. My helmet saved my life - if I hadn't been wearing it, I would have died on impact with 100% certainty. That injury cut my sports career short and significantly changed the course of my life. Doctors had to take skin from my inner elbow to repair the hole in my inner ear that was leaking brain fluid ... I am still hard of hearing out of my left ear.
So please, take my word for it, wearing a helmet is always a great decision!
Thanks for reading - stay safe. :)

Yea I had a afternoon pass it wasnt to bad til around 4ish most trails were turnin pretty icy. When I left around 53o more then a few of the trails seemed like strait ice. And i counted about 8 people getting brought down by the sleds in like 15 min.

Nah Brett (kid in the red tee, 15 and under) who threw the cab 450, cab 270 270 off and other sick stuff on the down box. He got 3rd to a kid who was doing nose presses. Chad too, (kid that looked like he was 10, he is the younger brother of a friend. He rides with me all the time) he threw down fs 450 and 270 270 off, and got nothing....
That blows what normally happens are the same kids seem to win everytime and they just know people haha what else is new.

Ok well after my session this past weekend I realized 2 things...I need new boots, and would love new bindings. So if anyone is getting rid of either let me know. Im a 10.5 boot.

haha nice. ill let him know. every night we go we end up meeting tuners that want to do a few runs up on 23. we ran a boosted talon 2 weeks ago. 3 people in the audi and pulled on the talon everytime. white one w/ a front mount. cool kid. something about a 16G in it. i guess turbo? idk those cars.
Just a few photos I've taken. Not really a photo person..it is my friends cam (in the lime green) who is going to school for graphics/photo.

Yeah there are always some pretty nice cars in that lot I saw a sweet white galant vr-4 the other day and a ridiculous amount of subbies. I have no clue when I get my license in feb how my 240 will survive some of those potholes in the lot at south haha.

so who rides at blue mountain? I live right down the street and have a season pass. I drive a lowered silver bugeye with a cf scoop, mudflaps and roof rack. Winter tires with stock wheels are on right now.

I was just at Blue yesterday. Got $20 lift tickets from Langhorne Ski shop and I think they are doing the same for next Thursday, so I may go again. It was pretty icy in the morning, but got better in the afternoon. It was empty to, I guess bc of the 'holiday'. I have an Arbor Element Alt, Flow M11 bindings, and Burton boots.
