Also just so you know you can use the gears out of a cable tranny in a hydro trans.

well my buddy was driving and all of a sudden the car just slammed and turned off. so the tranny just locked up. so if he holds the clutch he can start the car but if he lets go it just turns off. he can't get it out of gear so no clue what happened. but he needs one asap

Wow that is strange. Must've been real low on fluid. I would take the tranny apart to see if it could be repaired by replacing a bearing, but from the sounds of it, it's probably very messed up.
