I have finally got a car related question for you guys (and girls) I have an 02 Jetta GLS. Whenever I plug in my cigarette lighter (such as my radar) it stays on after I turn my car off. How can I rig it so it turns off when I turn my car off? It drives me nuts. I have to unplug it everytime and sometimes I forget and in the winter, my battery dies from it. Any suggestions? Appreciate it
I didn't think they stayed on with the ignition off.
Anyway, you'd need to find the positive wire and splice it into a switch somewhere. (This is what I would do at least)
So once you locate the wire, get a simple $1 switch from pepboys, run the power wire to one terminal on the switch, then run a second wire off the other terminal back to the other side of the power wire you cut.
You could also put something inline but I doubt you can reach the wires on a daily basis.
Or you could just remember to unplug stuff.
ORRRRR lol, you can splice the power wire into something that only turns on with the ignition, similiar to wiring in a switch except it operates off the key if you get what I'm saying. Tap another wire. That might be for you since you'd still have to remember to hit a switch.

to be safe...
cut the positive from the cigarette lighter
find any 12 volt source... wire up a 4 wire relay and wire it inline the power source then also to the positive side...
or
just any power source that is capacle of handling the Amp draw from the rader detector

instead of it getting constant power you should wire it so it gets accessory power. then it will only have power when the key is turned...

I think my Rs or Dakota was the same way....the integra shuts itself off and I love it.
