Not 5100.

Yea i didnt mean mine. Its sold.

just wondering because i'm not looking for a coupe so if I see one, i'll let you know.

And with that amount of money, are you expecting a good running stock car or are you planning to ditch the motor and replace it or build??

omgjacki
03-29-2008, 09:44 AM
I don't want someone else's nightmare. I just want to find one that runs at least. I'll fix any problems it has aside from needing a new motor/trans. Maybe over the summer I'll be up for a swap but right now I just want something I can drive. I do plan on doing something to it eventually, though, which is why I'm not looking for just anything.

I wonder if the Volvo in this auction (http://www.ppa-auctions.com/Auctions/7-24.html) is just a 240SX, or a Volvo 240. Volvo didn't make 240SXes. This auction (http://www.ppa-auctions.com/Auctions/7-22.html) has some good cars up for auction - a '01 BMW 740, '06 MB CLS500, '02 BMW M5, '03 MB CLK500, '05 BMW 645. To name a few. No 240s though. There are some people on here (1 including me) who drove quite a distance to get theirs. I personally drove 10 hours 1 way.

200 a month is a whole lot for a 240.

When I was 16, I had my 92' 3000GT VR4 on my own policy for 180 a month- everything except collision.

I bought a 92' 240SX hatch a year later when I was 17 and that cost around 90 bucks a month.

I have Bob Witmer State Farm, they're great.

I pay 70 bucks or something for my twin turbo Z and I am 19 now, so, yeah- go get a quote.

Is your mind set only on a Nissan? If not I could recommend an older Honda like mine, I've seen a lot of them go for 200-300 bucks and need another 200 in repairs and its a reliable car. Just a thought.

Edit: Ok I cannot locate any for that price but I did find this. It looks to be in decent shape, only issue that you MAY have is the carburetor, those can get bitchy. Trust me on that I have one.

Good luck. They list a few things wrong with it, but at that price you would think it wasn't road worthy or something. Or from what it seems, it just seems like a clueless person is selling it.

It pisses me off though. I am in the process of parting my Jetta to either fund a 240sx or a bike, and if these kids would stop jerking me around and buy my parts I could buy that. But like I said, I would ruin it. Gut it, cut the window frame off, put a cage in... I think it would be cool..

So... about getting off your lazy ass and trying to find a job as a waitress somewhere to double or triple your income? Na nevermind, terrible idea.

Yeah, seriously. Excellent point! You'd make WAY more waitressing!!! I think that might honestly be your next step. Good call on Troll's part. That was actually a great suggestion. Instead of trying to find a car that fits your budget, since that obviously isn't working out, how about finding a budget that fits your car?

Yeah, I can. That's not $3000 at once. I can afford payments, but for some reason, just as my luck would have it, every time I have more than $200 to my name, something comes up. I don't have the greatest life so money is a big deal for me. Look, I'd really rather not talk about this. If I can get a loan, great. If not, we're closing this thread and I'm giving up my search.

TROLL
09-02-2008, 08:51 PM
I allllmost thought you saw the light when we talked about this before. Your current financial situation will not support owning a car. The best thing you can do for your car and your finances that go way beyond that would be to bust your ass and do whatever it takes to find a better job and better pay. Until then, IMO, you shouldn't even be considering taking on an expense like this... loan, gas, and insurance will be over $500 a month if I were to guess. Sorry, again not trying to be an ass, but it seems that historically you cant hang on to $500 a month so it would be dangerous and irresponsible to make this kind of financial commitment.
I'll stop posting about it here if you want, but you made a public thread looking to buy a 240... your budget is obviously something that would be discussed as part of this process.

And one more time just to reiterate... it might not be easy to find a job waitressing. It might suck. It might take a while. You might want to give up. But you will find a job somewhere, and when you do... it will result in $10k or $20k extra per year (realllly rough numbers). $10k a year? Think about that... you could buy Kevin as a pet and keep him in a cage for that kind of money.

i worked nights while going to BCCC and worked 2 jobs over the summer and still doing that while taking this semester off. I think you can pick up a second job and give up 4 or 5 nights a week for an additional 100 or 200 bucks. just gotta adjust the priorities and what not. Anyone can do it. just gotta keep your dedication up there. Think about the reward, finally owning that car you want.

Duh. I'm just saying, I've done the math. It might be tight, but I know I can afford it. I have a friend in financing and he went through everything with me and we figured out what I'll roughly be spending every month. I included my other expenses and I still bring home more cash than the cost we came up with. And I'm not talking $5.00 more, either.

I'm not saying you're wrong. You're definitely not. I know I can make more money somewhere else. This is just convenient for me right now.

Awesome because he failed to tell me if it was a coupe or a hatch. I did get an e-mail back from him, though. He said it's been sitting for a year, needs a clutch, and needs some work to get it running properly. I don't know if he meant it doesn't run at all, or that it runs, just not well. I asked for the VIN so that I can try to get a CARFAX. By the way, if anyone has unlimited CARFAX, hook me up! I then talked to his wife and she said he was out showing it and she would have him call me tonight. Haven't gotten a reply or a phone call yet, though. If I talk to him tonight I'm going to try to go down there this weekend either Saturday afternoon, or Sunday.

Not that it matters, but KBB is about $1,900 as it is. $1,000 is a damn good deal for this car. Not that it's going to stop me from negotiating, haha.

We'll see. I have to look at the car myself. I can't just go by what he's saying.

the RWD market isnt gonna pick up til almost next summer, not many people are going to try to sell a rwd car during the winter in the northeast

natethegreatt - Ah, 240's sell year around cuz every 17+ year old knows how to drift and be really cool. Never had a problem selling them even when they weren't the cool car.

OP - is a s13 ur dream car or something? Couldn't imagine lookin for one of these things for this long lol.

all 3 are for sale.

1993 Coupe with a ca18.
1992 Vert with a rb20, rb25 turbo
and my last to sell will be the 1992 hatch with a ka-t. Not running perfect just yet :)

I want a pretty penny for every single one and in my area, easily done.

omgjacki - sorry to hear :( get a good daily and just save and maybe in the future it will work out for ya!
