My buddy George and I have been having some more sick & twisted diesel thoughts. He has an '83 Benz 300 turbo diesel. Its rusty with typical MB wiring quirks, but runs its a$$ off with excellent fuel economy. I am in the process of obtaining an S10 pick up with a grenaded motor.
The plan: drop the diesel into the truck. We figure the car weighs ~1,000lbs more than he truck. The car has a 2.70ish:1 gear ratio, and the turbo wants to come in around 1,500rpm. The torque convertor can be loosened up a bit for a stall speed around 1,500.
The truck probably has a 3.73 or 4.10 ratio which will be perfect. We'll fab up a front mount intercooler, open the exhaust up, and inject whatever other fluids we can come up with to get it into the 13 second range and still pull 30 mpg.
I think it can be done.
