I need to get my snow tires put on in hopes of traction. Soft compund summer tires SUCK for drag racing in cooler weather..

alwaysinboost

the white car has the wrong wheels on it for drag racing and I don't feel like swapping them before friday. besides, won't you be running on basically the same tire as me... so if I can't hook neither can you

hmm you really think snow tires will be better than summers this time of year?

peteyturbo
11-14-2007, 11:16 PM
Yes they have been proven to work much better for me at the track..I have been roasting all 4 245/45/17 RE01R's with 20psi in them launching at 4700 rpms..Soft compound gets hard when they are not being driven on, wheras a snow or all season tire has a compound that does not change much at all with temperature..Also the sidewall has much more flex, which is the MOST important thing for foward traction next to compound and sidewall sizehmm you really think snow tires will be better than summers this time of year?

:iagree: I've got some of my best times on blizzack ws-50 snow tires.
funny as hell going to the track on snow tires and beating cars out of the hole running full slicks.

Not for me it wasn't I got one good run in, traction owned me big time. I never expected to spin all 4 like that. I haven't launched it since I got tuned it looks like 5500rpm and 8.5 psi is too much. I got lucky on my first launch though.

They didn't let street tire cars run in the groove, which is a big problem for my car. I plan on going again next friday and I plan on using drag radials haha:mrgreen:

Well I only ran it twice, I could of went a couple times but I don't feel like replacing a clutch this week and after my first run I wasn't running any better with the traction problem.

Copied from original thread:

I did 2 runs and after my 2nd I figured it can't get any worse!

1st run: Spun a little out of the whole but all in all a good run except for I ran out of 4th gear and could still see the sign coming at me. To late to shift into 5th because I wasn't expecting it so ran the rev limiter across the line.

60' 1.88
1/8 8.00
MPH 86.73
!/4 12.50
MPH 111.99

2nd and I give up run because traction got worse as it got colder. Spun the whole 60' sideways and had to lay out to correct then 3rd gear decided to lock me out, I stay in anyways because I wanted the logs and had to wait over an hour for the run.

60' 2.302
1/4 13.67
MPH 108.80

wow 25mph in the back half is a nice pickup dude. need to get some low end out of her/better 60ft and youd be touching 11's with ease. i trapped 111 when i went 12.2 on a 1.707 60ft.

12.2 @ 113mph, and they where getting better till they shut it down for an hour. I just have to work on my launch. 1.73 60 fts leave a lot to be desired.

dude thats not bad at all, especially for atco, you need to get out to etown with petey and i when they open back up, its such a better track for awd. with a slipping clutch there and bad traction i was still cutting 1.7's and running 12.4 @111 i cant imagine on better track conditions and a clutch that dont slip. ill let you know when we go.

Well I just checked today and my rev limiter is at the stock setting so I ran out of 4th. I think I am going to adjust it to 8000 like many flashes do and that should really help me as I seen the sign coming and hit the rev limiter. We'll see maybe I will go Tuesday and see what some little adjustments will net me.

Oh yeah and my Pirelli's won't spin as much as my damn Advans

You act like low 1.70s is a bad 60'. For a street car (AWD even) that is not a bad short time.

When it's cold out your advans will be worse..Yokohama even says not to have them in any temp below 40 even if off the car, they turn hard and do not have grip when this happens..

I would but my Version 1,?? took a crap on me the files are currupt and now it connects and then disconnects shortly after. But my Version .99 still works and I wasn't using it that night. Bummer, what a waste! What is the highest knock count you ever encountered? I hit 7 the other day in 4th gear between 6500 and 7000, today it didn't repeat so I am not to worried about it. It would be nice to have them logs from the runs to see if this is a problem area and I am sure as hell not going 110+ on the highway to get a log in 4th.

peteyturbo
11-17-2007, 07:50 PM
7 counts will pull timing if sustained, any knock sum over 6 sustained will pull timing..If you are talking abot knock when you shift that really will not effect timing..I normally tune for 3rd then log in 4th to make sure all is kosher..Try to log your octane, it will tell you if timing is being pulled by reading lower then the normal 100, if so it will just interpolae values from the low octane maps, which is good but alot of tooners keep the two maps the same and you lose your failsafe..Make sure your low and high octane maps are different, both fuel and timing..

I'll check out my ROM and see but I believe most are flashed the same to cut down on time. Are you running Tephra's CEL knock indicator?
