I'm not glad to hear of these officers being shot but I'm glad that Nutter is going to be forced to take some serious action after all of these shootings against police officers. Its easy for officials to brush off all the shootings in Philly but they can't ignore it when the cops are getting shot.

Look at the live coverage on any news channel. You better believe the whole force is out there and wouldn't be if it was a civilian that was shot. But I can't blame them, its two of their boys that were shot and anyone who would shoot a cop like that is a lot more dangerous than someone shooting a civilian.

very true.
Nutter is pushing to allow cops to search and seizure whenever they feel is needed. Even though this is against our civil rights, Its a real good idea considering he condition Philly is in. I just hope all the surrounding townships don't get stupid and evey time you get stopped, you and your 4 friends are sitting on the curb while they tear your car apart.

And this is why I try my hardest now to stay out of Philladelphia as much as I can. I remember this one time when me and my dad had to drop off a Budget Moving van in Trenton, yes i know its different, but this women came right up to me (i was driving my dads mini van at the time) and she came right up to the passenger side door, and as I saw her start coming to the door, she was about 6 inches away. The auto door lock didn't work on that side, so I quickly took off my seatbelt, and reached over to lock the door, and this women just kind of stared at me for a moment, and then looked in the back. Thank god there was nothing in there, or she would have honestly gotten something that she wanted. I was stuck at a red light behind my dad, waiting for the light to turn green and when it did, I was gone, away from her.

This is part of the problem. Unfortunately, most of the people who are around this violence are either to ignorant to step forward or too scared. It's a shame when you hear stories and see pictures of the city and it's surround neighborhoods from my parents generation. There was a time when the surrounding city was a nice place to live. Not anymore. For the most part I hate driving into and out of the city during the day. I usually take chestnut/walnut in/out. The neighborhoods as I get close to Upper Darby are filth holes.
cant wait til im 21, even though id be afraid to shoot someone, i just always wanted someone to try and rob me and see the look on their face when it backfires on their ass.
Please, please, please do not buy a gun with hopes of using it or getting into a situation like that. Believe me, pulling a gun on someone that is trying to rob you may not even phase them. We don't want to read about you on the news.

honestly, show me how many "innocent" people have been shot this year. i would have to say that at least 75% of the murders this year probably had it coming. im not saying that its right. its still a ****ed up situation. but i am finding it harder and harder to have any sympathy for people who get killed. when the 17 year old gets killed on the street corner in kensington at 3 am and mom is on the news crying because he was a "good boy," sometimes i cant help but laugh.

I'm not worried about the killers killing other killers, what worries me is when I'm walking down the street and 3 guys surround me or when someone is ordering food just to open the door to a gun in their face. Wether innocent people are killed or not they are still being terrorized. Everyone I talk to in this city knows someone who was robbed at gun point or mugged and beaten half to death.

ignorance is at the root of the problem
Don't give them that out. Ignorance is not the root of the problem. Saying so almost justifies what they did, as if they did not know any better. Ignorance is a guy from Wisconsin walking down the streets of NY and buying a fake Rolex and thinking it is real.
No, what is going on in Philly is not ignorance, it is a choice, plain and simple. Every one of those criminals knows what they are doing is wrong. There came a point in life where they had a choice to make, lead a good honest life or go down the path of crime. They chose the latter. Most of them have a record before they murder, if not someone in their crew has one. They know what they are doing is wrong and have suffered the consequences of those actions and continue to lead that life.
They may lack a formal education, which is an issue. They may lack a strong role model in their life, which is a root issue. However, it is not ignorance. They know what they are doing, they know it is wrong, yet they do it anyway.

"The city must pay virtually all the judgment. The two officials held liable -- former Fire Commissioner William Richmond and former Police Commissioner Gregore Sambor -- were ordered to pay $1 a week each for the next 11 years to Ms. Africa and the other plaintiffs."

Street says 'blahblahblahblahblah, we need more gun control laws, blahblah blahhhh, anyone can obtain a gun on any street corner, blah blah blah, we need more gun laws.....'
What will more gun laws do, other than make it way more difficult for me a law abiding citizen, to buy a gun?? Stupid government officials.

The sad part is that it's not just the government officials screaming gun control. They even have thousands of citizens convinced of it! They recently passed laws here at Penn State restricting us from carrying legal concealed weapons on campus...But its still ok to carry them downtown (you could throw a rock from downtown and hit classrooms). In protest, students have been wearing empty holsters on campus every day.
It's been proven that gun control doesn't work. Like you said, it only takes guns from law abiding citizens. Do criminals buy guns legally? Do they wait a week to be approved? Hell no! They would never qualify! Look at NJ...According to these officials NJ should be crime free because you can't carry a concealed weapon anywhere, so there must be no guns right? sure... But look towards the midwest! Even though the population density is much smaller, for every 100,000 people there is significanly less gun crimes. Why? THEY HAVE GUNS TO DEFEND THEMSELVES! Where is someone gonna commit a crime, a city where everyone can carry, or somewhere where its actually illegal to defend yourself with a gun?

What does it cost to make a noose. Save us some tax dollars. If you attempt to kill. How about we put you on a wall, we spin in a chair about 20x's... then try to shoot you.
or better yet, make some money off these murderers.
Catch all the gang members and rivals... Put them in a big stadium, play it on pay per view. Lets get ready to rumble!!!!
Or we can make a real version of "The Running Man" loved that movie

The only problem is, how do you punish them? If you throw them in jail you then leave their other children to fend for themselves. Most of these kids come from broken homes so placing them in the care of the other parent might actually be worse for society. You can't fine them because they get their money from the government so you would essentially be fining yourself. If they have less money it might inflame the situation even more.

Jail doesn't do anything, the only thing they learn is how to do the crime better next time.
I say it's time to bring back the death penalty and medival torture devices.

The only problem is, how do you punish them? If you throw them in jail you then leave their other children to fend for themselves. Most of these kids come from broken homes so placing them in the care of the other parent might actually be worse for society. You can't fine them because they get their money from the government so you would essentially be fining yourself. If they have less money it might inflame the situation even more.
make them go on community service.have them take care of quadruplegics that were victim of gun shot wounds.specially if they were put in that place by that particular parents offspring.and to prevent after school programs from closing for under preveliage children.

not really...you can't learn off someone dumb enough to get caught, right???
But this has to stop. I grew up in that area and I remember when it was nice and calm. Now all these kids are walking around thinking they can do what they want. People need to start beating their kids again.
And to whoever said that they don't mind for the government to be able to search ur things at anytime for any reason..... are you serious!!??? Why don't you just give them your privacy on a platter. This government is already trying to take complete control over your life now, let alone people like u giving it away. I think we need to take back our privacy and get these jackass's out of office. First, please clarify what "jackasses" you mean.
Second, I agree that random searches without cause are not permissible under the constitution.
Third, how is the government trying to take over your life now?
Will you be my opponent? ha ha

All i am saying is why can't this government have some one in office that cares about the average joes??? Why are these people so corrupt that they can't even take notice to anything other than their own pockets. They are the people running this country into the ground. Its the average joes that keep this country running. With all the bullsh*t bush started with this war and causing the price of gas to triple, and between the outsourcing that has occured, How in the world is a family going to survive these days. Back in the day, One person worked and could provide for his entire family(which was usually a wife and three kids). Now you have 2 people working full time and are barely scraping by with two kids. Seems F**ked up to me.

Sorry, cant let this go without a few points. I will avoid the war as it is highly contentious and needs it own thread.
Bush did NOT cause the price of gas to triple. It was many events happening simultaneously. 9/11 was part of it, it introduced the terror premium into the price. Venezuela also dropped production, then repatriated the oil fields stoking fears that the government would limit production further. Areas of Africa are at war and those areas are oil rich. There have been attacks on pipelines which has disrupted flow and increased the fear premium. Iraq was part of it, losing their production was a hit. OPEC cut production because they like money and less supply of an inelastic price demand product equals large increase in price. China and India are increasing their demand in leaps and bounds and will soon eclipse us as the worlds largest purchaser. With oil supply decreasing and demand increasing prices go up. Throw in the fact that the liberals pushed for MTBE to be added and then recently decided it was bad and then pushed for ethonal to replace it, a product which is mush more costly in time and money to use and you have a further increase in price. This is a very basic explination of a very complex issue, but I think you can see that Bush and our government can do very little when it comes to the price of gasoline. No windfall tax or any other ass backwards plan you hear Pelosi and her minions pushing will help the matter, it will only hurt.
Outsourcing is NOT a Bush issue alone. Remember Clinton is the one who signed NAFTA, which is largely responsible for many of our manufacturing jobs going to Mexico. Also, thank greedy union bosses. Ask yourself why Subaru and Toyota can afford to have plants in America, pay their workers well and be non-union and the big three can not?
The middle class is not disappearing, it is a myth. This is a claim based off of salary data that is outdated. They base the "middle class" off a sertain spread in income numbers. These numbers are not corrected for inflation and increases in wages. So, as real income has increased, look it up, the criteria for what defines "middle class" has remained the same.
I will say this. Bush is an IDIOT for not instituting some sort of war tax. It is his duty as commander in chief to fund the war. He is not doing it with any concern for the future, he is very short sighted. But, the tax cuts were responsible for an increase in tax revenue. Just not enough to pay off the debt. That needs to change.
