hey i have an 02 sentra spec V SE-R, it gets terrible gas mileage. like 250 to the tank. i know its a 2.5 which is kinda big for a 4cyl i guess. is it supposed to be that poor?? i dont really beat on it at all and shift around 3k ish... no CELs, just did plugs too. any help would be great. its just a bitch filling it up w/ 93 so often haha

i gave my mom my 06 because it sucked on gas..i averaged about 290ish not beating on mine. im pretty sure you can get away with 87 in it as well.

I had a spec v, it sucked on gas milage. and the turning radius sucks too.

^^ the turning radius is worse than my 2G eclipse, thats pretty bad. i guess the moral of the story is spec-v's blowwww

With his being an 02 no. The ks will pull timming even more then it does on 93. I got around 22-23mpg N/A and 25ish F/I at lest when kept my foot out of it. Also a tiny @ss tank doesn't help the range either

That sucks but I don't think it will do anything if you do it once plus if it sucks on gas it should be all gone fairly quickly

Relocate the knock sensor, easy and very effective.

Also, do you have the stock pre-cat on it? I hope you don't...

Pre-cat failure, that's what...especially on an '02. Do some searching on b15sentra.net and you'll find out why.

BTW, the gas mileage isn't bad at all depending on how you drive it. You can't look at the range due to the fact it has a small gas tank. If you're getting 250 to a tank, you're getting about 24-25mpg give or take. The most I've gotten range wise is about 315-325 going on a road trip cruising at 70mph the entire trip, getting about 29-30mpg. It depends on what type of driving you do and how you drive it.

And yes the Spec isn't the greatest car out there, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.

When I had my '04 I consistently got 29-31mpg. Just something that you need to get used to. Also, DEFINATELY get an aftermarket header without the cat. A blown motor isn't what you want if you're looking to get rid of it!!! Those motors had the tendency to suck parts of the precat back into the motor causing some sweet blown motors.

this may sound dumb, but how can the exhaust suck something INTO the motor when its getting pushed away from it...

Back pressure.

The pre-cat is weak in the stock manifold. Under strong heat, which the QR produces a lot of.. it falls apart, and crumbles. Due to the natural process of backpressure, that an internal combustion motor makes, the bits and pieces get sucked back into the cylinder, and score up the sides of the cylidner walls, causing oil to burn and the motor to be very very very unhappy.

Don't forget to loctite the butterfly screws in the intake. Thats another issue thats been a problem since 02. Supposedly fixed in 06, but I loctited mine to be on the safe side. As to your ****ty gas mileage, how far are you running it out? Do you go just until the needle hits "E" fill up and then say "WTF?" I won't fill up until I get 325 out of the tank. I'm a pretty calm driver though.

im a calm driver. never beat on it due to how slow it is. i wait til the light goes on then re-fill.

Ahhhhhh...you're bringing back all my painful memories of the beautiful world that is, the QR25DE!!!! I forgot about that one. Good catch!

The QR isn't that bad for everyone. I'm running at 122k miles original engine, tranny, clutch and still runs well. Last oil analysis came back nearly perfect at 115k miles.

^ I've had two cars with the QR25DE first my 03 Spec V with no major problems until it got hit by a Semi and my wifes 06 Alty which runs great gas milage sucks (23ish mostly city), but if you wanted gasmilage you should have went with the 1.8s (QG18DE). Personaly I loved my Spec V and I may end up picking up another one at some point for a daily drive w/ some well placed mod ie header, Cat back (the header alone sounds like crap), lock tight butterfly screws,SS, and an CAI. The QR25DE has gotten a bad rap for 3 enginering flaws that are pretty minor and easy to fix( 02-early 03 and jan 06-march 06 pistion rings, Precat, and the butterfly screws which I haven't heard of any cases after 04). The QR25DE has a great head design and stock can handle 300+whp (f/i).

Thought I would bring a thread back from the dead, I love my Spec, its loud as all hell from my exhaust. But its definatly a fun car to drive, and its only really slow because of that damn stock header you have on there. The car pulls really well once you get that off and get an intake on there as well. I beat on mine all the time and I drop plus into it with no problems.

i get 240ish and will up with about 11 gallons. Its pretty retarted its due to the short gear ratios. I switch gears between like 2200-2500rpm typically and the ocassional flooring. alot of stop and go traffic. I'm afraid of the precat failure though mostly, the butterfly valves shouldn't effect 04 and 04+ i hear? But i think i will loctite them and get a exhaust system in the spring time
