(forgive me if this should've been in the photography section...i think its more about the product than the art of photos though so off topic seemed like a good place.)

After a recent robbery at my home, im out many things... one being the digital camera i just bought a few months ago. while im upset about it, i hated the camera anyway and bought it without consulting anyone or knowing anything.

so, now that i need a new one im asking for some advice first.

-Im not a pohotgrapher, nor do i have the time to learn.

- I do however enjoy taking photos, mainly of cars and things of that nature, so i need some that will take crisp decent pictures that i can edit to look somewhat good.

- it'd also be nice if it takes videos in a file type that someone that doesnt know much about computers like myself can easily convert or use to make small video compliations...basically simple videos with a bunch of clips edited together.

-i usually carry my camera around a lot so itd be nice if it was somewhat small, and sort of durable...

- i don't need really high tech stuff, i really just want to take pics and vids of cars, and of friends and family... mainly for personal use and posting on forums. i just dont want one that sucks as bad as the last camera i bought.

- as far as price, obviously i dont want to spend a ton, as the chances of me losing or breaking the thing are pretty good.... but i know i need to spend a decent amount to get one that works as well as i'd like.

- i know nothing about any techical terms, and really nothing about cameras at all.

-sorry if i sound like an idiot....i dont have many hobbies other than work and my cars so my knowledge outside of those two things isnt very broad.

thanks for reading and if anyone can steer me toward something that i dont hate, ill greatly appreciate it.

thanks guys!

-Jason

are you looking for a camera you can keep in your pocket? or something a lil bigger that would hang out in your car?

canon s3 or s5. its a little bigger then what your asking for, but its a great camera if your looking for something between a crappy point and shoot, and a real dslr. see the thread in the photo forum about it.

thanks lagos ill look that up...

and the camera will probably spend most of its time in the car, so if if it's not that small i can deal.

alright, i was gonna recommend the same cameras that lagos did but wasnt sure how big or small you were looking for. sony makes a camera thats about the same size as the canon too if you wanna check that out. just go play with some

Canon A720 IS or the S5. The A720 IS is probably better for you.

seems like a decent deal to me..i was hoping you could get out and play with one before buying but that seems like a pretty good deal. lemme see what the S3's are new from a store

EDIT: I couldnt find the S3 in my short search but the S5 i saw for $350 so $150 isnt too bad. jump on it if it looks good to you

exactly....

i shouldve just upped my final bid, but likely i still would've been outbid.

dammit, i was hoping to save a few bucks since im sure some untimely death wil come to the next camera i buy as well.
