I recently got a speeding ticked on 95N in PA. i was going, or rather they got me at 87.3 mph in a 55. now the cop gave me a ticket and the fine was $201 and some change. now i am worried because i need my license for my job. i work at a dealership and i also carry a state inspection and emissions license. this is my first major ticket. should i hire a lawyer for the court? wat should i so. also, my court date is set on the 24th of dec. should i see if i can change that date to a better date cause im thinking maybe the judge would be mad for being in court in christmas eve?

Chirstmas might work for you too! What I would advise you to do is contact the court if you can pay the fine and have no loss of license pay it and be done with it. If there is more to it like the loss of you license or if PA requires you to be in court then speak to the prosecutor and see if you can plea bargin you summons down with a guilty plea for a lesser speed. most courts will do this without you having to get a lawyer. Check with the issuing court and let me know what they told you maybe I can help you from there.

so can i plea bargain over the phone or do i have to be in person for it? i am planning on calling them either tomorrow or friday since its too late today. and sorry for the noob question but it the prosecutor the cop who got me?

and also, if we do go to court. if the cop is not there, then does the case get thrown out or what?

THe prosecutor is a lawyer who prosecutes the cases in court....when you call ask if you have to appear in court. If your appearance is not required you can ask to plead "not giulty" you'll be given a new court date on that date you ask to speak to the prosecutor. when meet with the prosecutor ask if you can plea guilty to a lesser charge. If the prosecutor agrees (most do it speeds up the day) then you will pay a lesser fine and get less points on your DL.

As for the cop failing to show up. I wouldn't play that little game some judges do throw out summons if the officer fails to appear most will take the prosecutors word that the officer has been spoken to and wishs to prosecute. The only way that works is if you go to trial and fight the summons. In this case my money would be on you losing and the court costs and other charges would be more then if you had paid the summons outright.

Good luck if you need more help before you go to court let me know
