View Full Version : I can't keep a secret for my life...

So I wanted to have a secret for the meet, just like Mike did a couple weeks ago. Although I am very trustworthy and can keep a secret if I need to, I have serious trouble not telling the world when I'm excited about a new toy. So, since half of you know already, I just wanted to tell the other half that...

I'M GETTING COILOVERS TOMORROW!!!!

Yup, Tein Flex with EDFC... the older style with 5kg front and 5kg rear springs. I am very much looking forward to seriously increased handling, and since they are relatively soft springs for coilovers I'm hoping that my teeth wont chatter out of my mouth and that a sports bra wont be necessary for all female passengers.
My friend picked them up for me this weekend and he'll be dropping them off at my house tomorrow afternoon, which is when I will be installing them. Its not a tough install, but if anyone would like to come help or hang out let me know. Probably 2 or 3pm is when I'll start with it. I have a garage that wont be too cold, and I live in Langhorne. I just realized that I need two 19mm sockets for the lower strut bolts and I dont have them. Anybody?

HOOOOORAY!!!

I already knew the secret

I'm in Jersey for the weekend. May be heading back tomorrow with the weather forcast. I don't think I'd be home till 8 :(. I'd love to see the final product... maybe even take me for a test drive and see if I need a sports bra. :driving:

Yo B.

I have a deep socket 19mm 1/2 drive, pair of 2 ton aluminum jackstands, 1500 watt portable heat lamp, creeper jack, bottle jack and a slew of Craftsman tools. But NO decent braker bar!

I was going to offer Fred some assistance for Saturday, but he had Pete and company over on Friday night and sped to do the job.

You are welcome to use any of the tools. However, there is a catch. We're having a birthday party for my daughter between 2~4 on Sunday. Between preparations and execution of the party, I will have a window of opportunity between 11~1 if you want to swing by and pick em up.

AIM me with your number if you can make use of the tools, or if you need anything else.

What are you gonna do with the old springs?

Aaron

is it finished??

TROLL
02-21-2005, 06:22 AM
yep, coilovers are in. all seems well except i want to take a closer look at the right rear coilover... its clunking louder than it should be and i can also hear it making a swooshing sound when it compresses. i heard thats normal for coilovers, but since its only coming from that corner i hope i can do something about it.
so far they are great. definitely MUCH firmer than my eibach springs, but i like the feel, its not uncomfortable at all. but a full stomach on a bumpy road might not be fun though. i'll write a more formal review later after i have some more time behind the wheel.
oh, and thanks to everyone who came by today. it was fun hanging out with everyone, and awesome that so many guys lended a hand. major props to pete who came out early and worked hard all day long.

here are the first pics. as you can see the front isnt even... the previous owner had the car corner balanced so height wise it varies from corner to corner. its rubbing a bit on my car so i need to raise the fronts up a bit, so i'm just going to make them all even. anyone ever adjust tein coilovers before? cant figure out how to move the lower perch in order to raise the entire strut up...?
anyways, here's the pic...

Bryan, that looks tight. If you want to get rid of the Eibach's, I might be able to take them off your hands.

TROLL
02-21-2005, 08:59 PM
yeah i was planning to sell them, and local is always nice. still need to take them off my struts but that will be an easy job if i someone will lend me use of their air tools for about 5 minutes.
i'm actually just finishing up adjusting the height on my coilovers... it takes time to get it dialed in with height vs spring preload because each adjustment changes the other and you have to go back and forth and back and forth to get it where you want it. i shouldnt have to mess with spring preload anymore now that i've got it to the recommended specs, so i think the hard part is over.

so........... found out what the clunking was...... this picture should explain it........

http://www.bryantroll.com/other/loosenuts.jpg

i guess there are drawbacks to having so many people helping out... it makes it more possible for a step to be completely looked over

i fixed it though, and the clunking is gone. the car looks good and as soon as i resolve my leaking tire issue then i'll be able to really push it. i cant wait...

Hmm.. I distinctly remember saying the words, " Shouldn't we recheck all the bolts and torque them?"

This was followed by some stares, and a response of "Naw, they are tightened enough".

But aren't you glad it was the top mount of the coil-over as opposed to the bottom? ..... Oooh, Doubt Sucks! LOL.

i dont know about all that homer, but i do know who was working on that part of the car... :thumbdow:
it was an honest mistake and that kind of miscommunication is bound to happen when 5 guys are all working on a car together, so no hard feelings at all. i fixed it, so its all good.
anyways, i took some more pics today. the car is dirrrrty but whatever. the fronts rub a little bit on hard turns right now so i may have to go up a bit. i'm skurred how it'll be with 7.5 or 8" wide wheels and 225/235 tires though...

Hey Troll,

Can you stop by tomorrow morning and scrape the eggs I'll make off the frying pan with that front spoiler?

yeah i think i'm gonna have to raise the front a little bit tomorrow... see if it still rubs on hard turns. i'm just kinda scared about how much trouble i'll have keeping the car low with wider wheels and tires on there for the summer.

Car looks gooooooooood. It's funny how relative the low thing is. For a subaru, your car is low as hell. In the bmw world, it looks jacked:
