I went to Reedman today to test the waters there since I'm tired of driving an hour roundtrip to a dealer who will actually work on my car without giving me chit about it.
I picked an interesting day to go to Reedman as the SOA Regional Service Rep was there. Of course I didnt know this until the woman filling out my paperwork told me that they couldnt look at a potential oil leak under warranty because my car is lowered  .
I kind of disagreed with her on that and she was nice about it and went to ask the Regional Service Rep since he was right around the corner. Me = . She said he was pretty cool though so I figured I'd take my chances.
He was indeed cool and they put my car up on the lift to see what the problem was. The rep was the one doing the wrenching under there, and more than a few times he commented on how very 'special' my car was, and how it reminds him of when he used to work on his Fiat and how much of an animal it was.
There was a bit of oil gathering underneath my block but I've never seen it drip and they couldnt really diagnose it. They wiped it off and said if it came back then they would investigate it further.
He checked out my exhaust and was like 'wow'. He checked out my suspension and said "how can you have green struts on a Subaru? They need to be either pink or blue!" He also commented on how I needed new tires... I acknowledged that even though they are just where I want them for AutoX ;)
So yeah, the SOA Regional Service Rep was cool... I think his name was John but I'm really not positive. The End.

Hopefully he wasn't being cool just so he could look under your car and then black list you after you left. .

I use to work as a tech so I know that techs hate warranty work anyway and so if he use to be a tech he had no reason to be doing you a favor.

They wanted to void your warranty because your car is lowered? That is HorseS hit. That shouldnt be legal.

Saturn = best warranty ever

They will never void it unless they can prove it was the part that you installed that caused the problem.

Lowered? No problem! Just let them know ahead of time so they can be prepped.

I love my techs when I take it in for alignments. They take it out for a spin. :p

why would techs hate warranty work? it what provides them with a solid paycheck. the only one who should hate warranty work is the owner of the company who is footing the bill for it.

Techs hate warranty work cause they get paid half of what they would normally make if the customer was paying out of pocket. Some places make it even worse. Not sure if Pepboys does this anymore but IIRC, they use to pay their techs 1/4 for warranty work.

I know that bmw techs get a certain amount of time for any warranty work. Every possible job has a set time it should take to complete. for example- changing a headgasket on an m3 should take 5 hours, so they only get paid for 5 hours work. If it takes longer, they only get paid for 5 hours, if it takes less than 5 hours they can sit on their ass and get paid for doing nothing.

I know this because my brothers bmw has had over 30,000 of warranty work done on it.

This is called getting paid flat-rate. Techs get paid something like $10-$50/hr to do a job. So to take the BMW example if warranty work paid for 5 hours I bet a normal out of pocket job would charge 10-12 hrs.

Just a little insight....

Reps = people that work at a company for 5+ years.

I worked at Reedman for a long time, I would have advised you NOT to take it there.

very glad you had a good experience there... i may try them.

I have a very good relationship with Colonial... I know Ron the service manager there pretty well. I also take care of the techs when they look into a problem with my car.

If only we could get Reedman to let us mess around on that test track!

i cant say for sure if reedman would 'take care of me' on a regular basis. they share their garage with jaguar and i know subaru is new thre but the woman doing my paperwork thought i had a 3 year 36k warranty and that was it. i had to tell her that it was for bumper to bumper and that it have a 5 year 60k drivetrain warranty... haha.

Bryan, Did they fix the oil leak? And where was/is the front end noise coming from?

ya know mike its kinda funny cause you know the lengths i went to to find that clunking noise... well i took my car for an alignment on friday and when i got it back the clunking was gone. it makes absolutely no sense but if there's no noise then there's no problem... i'll worry about other things.
they couldnt find an origin for the oil and if it is leaking it is doing it very slowly. they checked both of those valves underneath and they are tight. they wiped it clean and i'm just going to check it again when i have a chance. if there is oil buildup again then we'll investigate further.
