If your getting a larger turbo get a Walbro and injectors too.
I would suggest the IHI upgrade from Gruppe-S.
It comes with everything you need.

VFs are for girls
Get an 18g-20g and call it a day.

18g and 20g are monsters.I dont need that much power.I need this car to get to work.not to race.I heard people with 18 and 20g's blowing there trannys very quickly.

it depends on what your goals are. a VF34 with STi pink injectors and a walbro fuel pump are easily accessible and will integrate with your AP, and you seem content with the power potential there so its what i'd recommend.
a larger turbo with a utec and a custom tune would be sweet too, but is more effort and cost. i would recommend a PnP 16G from Deadbolt if you went that route though... the 18G is a little too laggy IMO on a WRX 2.0

i thought vf 39 wasnt able to go on 2.0?
And whats the difference between the 34 and the 39.

nah, a lot of guys have done the swap. Nice little increase in power. Need to do a little fuel upgrades with it. Otherwise...its a little smaller than a 34 i think.
ryan
yeah the 39 is a bit smaller then 34..

dude bryan, get your facts right. A vf34 spools 300rpm later than your stock td04- 18g's- i have been in 2 different wrx's with them. one with a fmic and one with a tmic. the one the tmic had full boost 20psi@3100, fmic once was 18psi@3600.

I'm not going to say it again. I've been down all these routes and learned from all of my mistakes. Buy the biggest turbo you are considering because you can always turn down the boost to make less HP. As long as a turbo spools by 4K, you are good. Bigger turbos are also easier on your engine at the same power level compared to smaller ones.
I don't think anyone would consider my FP3065 laggy. The only thing that makes bigger turbos seem laggy is that they hit so much harder. Power is almost the same below spool, but the difference on boost is just larger.

Not necessarily. A big turbo only works well on a car with the appropriate supporting mods. Besides the motor mods and fuel deliver mods, driveline mods are just as important. What is the point of getting a big laggy turbo if the supporting mods are in the distant future. So turn the boost down but then the car runs slower than if it had a smaller turbo and that would suck. If your not committed to keeping the car forever, through the good times, and the bad times, etc... it migh get traded in for something before the big turbo is actually put to good use.
Besides, a nicely sized turbo can go a long way.
