Ok in about a month i may be looking to put some money into my car lets try to help me spend it. I may be looking for a bigger turbo but not too far. I will probably be doing suspension stuff and a extra set of wheels and tires but why don't i let you spend my money for me. Lets not include install since i am sure some of the memebers on ehre will be willing to lend a hand with the promise of a nice long drive for them in it with me as a passenger. Right now all i have is the cobb tbe a acessport a k&n flter and a silencer delete thats it. So spend away.
3,000 budget.

get an FP green, an upgraded TMIC, fuel pump, injectors, and a tune.

the tune or tmic prob push it over 3k, but i'd think only a little

i dont think you're a wheels and body kit guy so I wont go there...

Forced Performance "Green" turbo. Hugely popular with the DSM's, STi's started using them. Kind of an ultimate street turbo IMO. Here you go:
http://linux.forcedperformance.net/merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=FP&Product_Code =NTWRXFPGREEN&Category_Code=WRX

If you get it, I'd seriously consider paying you for a ride. And I agree with that upgrade path btw.

If you knew all that and were asking something totally unrelated, myyyy bad.

can anyone compare the 18G (or 20G) with the Green? I dont know much about the bigger turbos as I have only really ever paid attention to the VF34 and 16G which is the way i would go if i did on my WRX.

the 18g pretty much puts same powers # as the vf22(bigger than 34) were the 18g out does it is race gas, by a lot. i belive the green on sti's makes some where in the range of 350-400whp with a good tune.

I just realized you have an Accessport... which, correct me if I'm wrong, will be a problem tuning with a bigger turbo (especially the FPGreen.) If you got something to tune that all with, yeah, that would be badass.

Tuning shops which are Cobb authorized protuners can tune accessports... so getting a custom tune is not a problem

Thanks for the correction... that's good to know that, I had no idea that was possible. That's cool, maybe I'll look into the AP again.

Don't mess around with bolt on turbos. Get an external wastegate GT30R setup. They are much, much easier to work on and will make more power and spool sooner.

I currently have the 3 different aftermarket turbo in my STI.

Get the Ultimate Racing Kit and call it a day.

I prefer TMIC because with the FMIC you have to take out the stock bumper beam... which other than being a major insurance issue... I like having that solid protection.

FMICs do look awesome though

and a lot less heat soak..if you have the money def go with the gt30 o gt35r kit.

criz
08-02-2005, 03:43 PM
yea... I suppose any TMIC will get heat soak at idle... although I wonder how it'd be if you but heat shield material on the bottom of it?

regardless... the ESx STi puts out 425hp with a TMIC and thats cool with me. I'm shooting to have a 350whp map for every day driving and a 400whp for racing.

I'm planning on upgrading the turbo to a FP green or a deadbolt, upgrade the fuel system and toss in either worx tuning or cobb's TMIC.

The fun part is the diff. combos you can make to achieve the same goals... good luck with whatever you decide barry

I can't tell you how much i've learned by reading thru this tuning book...

http://www.godai.at/shop/images/products/thumbs/thm_62-42-10-05_1.jpg

and i've only gone thru a 1/4 of it... but it explains what you need to achieve certain levels... so in this case what you need to do to achieve 350whp and be within the reliable confines of the motor...

How mechanically inclined are you?

Can you handle fab and custom work or are bolt ons your limit?

I got this great idear for a TMIC setup.

Step 1: Remove intake manifold, leave TGVs on car.

Step 2: buy very wide and stalky universal IC to run from around where the stock TMIC sits all the way to the front of the TGVs.

Step 3: Build 2 tubular risers to connect from HUGE TMIC ends to TGVs. Attach throttle body onto inlet of TMIC.

Step 4: drill and tap numerous vacuum connections in TMIC to connect lines.

This eliminates the intake manifold completely (a huge plus), uses the TMIC as a plenum, and has absolutely the best cooling/piping volume ratio you could ever dream of.

It would sit directly above the engine, but you could also substitute a water/air IC in its place. Trust me, this will make booku HP with min lag.

You could get more air to it by installing the GimmeGears WRC hood vent.

Bryon a green is just a td06h-20g. Barry, if I could do it all over I would go rotated mount turbo like Bill has stated.
