I'm content playing the games on Wii Sports and Wii Play. Tennis is tough to get tired of! The occasional golf game is also nice, as is pool.

The only thing is that I don't have internet at home. Do you need to be online to play the Wii?

Vypurr

Only games I can think of that use the internet for playing against people are Pokemon and Mario Strikers.

Awsome, thanks.

The other thing is that my TV is ancient ... UHF connection no yellow/red/white connections. Will it work? :o

buy a new tv, or find a yrw to uhf connector, i'm sure they exist although i've never even attempted to find one. But I must say that I was in a similar boat about a year ago with the tv situation (i had been using a sony produced in 92 that I found roadside), and when I upgraded it was astounding how much better everything can appear.

50" 1080p ftw!

You do not need online to play the Wii, but you will need it to update the Wii which happens every month or so.

RE4, Mario Party 8, Super Paper Mario, etc....there are a lot of decent games on the Wii. If it sounds stupid, it probably is so just use good judgment. Rent games first, then buy (games like Red Steel, I'm glad I rented first, the controls are so eff'd up I could never get into it) RE4 controls are very intuitive

Wii sports is awesome, Wii Play is cool, Mario Party is amazing with a group of friends, Zelda, Tiger Woods, there are a ton out there I haven't bought any new games recently...

RE4 controls onthe wii annoy me a bunch, but I LOVE the game, so it's worth getting used to. I just think having to press a button to aim the gun is annoying, especially in any system since dual analog. But it's an ingrained part of an amazing franchise. I was sort of hoping they'ld have altered to allow for shooting while walking, but whatever.

As far as red steel goes, I have it, played it through, wasn't ever fond of it, but it's not the worst. The controls take way too long to get used to, and the gameplay is terrible. Definitely not something I'ld buy new again if I could go back.

Splinter Cell double agent is amazing on the 360. The wii version (amazon.com sent me the wii and 360 versions together, when i only purchased the 360. their mistake = my free game) is a WASTE. They cut out most of the awesome stuff, and added very little to the game, although it's told in a different perspective, which is slightly interesting. THe controls in that version are terrible.

Res 4, Zelda, Metroid are your first 3 games. noexcuse.
Super Paper Mario is pretty cool too
I can't wait for brawl (which will be online) and umbrella chronicles

AVOID: Splinter Cell, Need for speed, Red steel. If you're a fan of these series and want the game, i could sell you mine super cheap, but don't spend more than 20 bucks on them.

whatever happened with disaster day of crisis?

Honestly I'd love a final fantasy - type game, a bond 007-type game, and a mario kart kind of game. A Mario 64 sounds good too. I love my SNES (still play daily, Chrono Trigger & Secret of Mana & Link to the Past & FFIII), I also have an N64 (Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Bond 007, Perfect Dark) and a PS2 (GT3, GT4, GTA3). I like action games, RPGs, and car racing. Are any of these games like that?

A lot of those games can be downloaded through the online console too!

As for the cables, the system comes with the basic yellow/red/white cable, and you can purchase the HD cables seperate.

These updates also come on newer games. If you noticed, Super Paper Mario would automatically update your system if you hadn't already done the online updates.

Well, crystal chronicles is a final fantasy game that is either recently released for wii, or in the works, i cannot recall.

as far as goldeneye, goes, not really at the moment, but i'm sure it's coming.

how about mario kart in january, or i believe you can download the n64 version from the online store if you get internets running for the wii.

Many snes games are being added to the wii-shop inventory. basically once again, get the internet running.

Zelda is on here, twilight princess which is pretty awesome. Ocarina i believe is purchaseable.

Metroid is an awesome fps, and adventure is included in it.

As far as racing, excite truck was pretty fun. I wasn't too fond of the NFS adaptation myself. It was fun, but not comparable to the 360 version.

I haven't tried the GT game, but i'm betting it's better as far as wii racers go.

It also plays any gamecube game

Wait, so you download old games? Huh? What is t he cost like?

Intercooled T
09-26-2007, 04:29 PM
Pretty much you can buy a Wii Points card, or use your credit card online. Roughly $20 will get you 2,000 points. Different games cost different amounts, NES games can be 400-600 points, SNES sometimes more, N64 more than that, etc

usually like 5-10 bucks, will land you anything, as far as old systems go. graphic/fx, sega, nes, snes, n64 games are all available!

more added weekly

So, where does it save the game data? I'm a little confused by that.

Intercooled T
09-27-2007, 11:27 AM
It saves the game data on the internal memory, but you can also have it save to an SD card. I'm not sure where the roms get saved, but I'm just waiting for them to be distributed on the internetz:devil:

^^^ I don't think they'll be doing online roms anytime soon...the games you download are coded to only run on your system...wont run anywhere else even if you take them on an SD card...Not worth the trouble to crack them to play on Wii when you can just play them on the computer.

Metroid is awesome...I'm one planet away from being done.
Super Paper Mario was also great.
I like Trauma Center...It's frustratingly fun...theres a new one coming out soon.
pretty much any of the Nintendo games are A++

Games to look forward to: Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Guitar Hero, Dragonball, Manhunt 2, Batallion Wars, Fire Emblem and many more!!!

Alright so I gotta get the Wii online to download those games, and then it'll save them on my hard drive so I won't have to worry about memory cards, or getting online to save, or anything like that? Just a one-time download of the game and that's it?

I've gotta be honest I'm getting pretty excited.

But, how do you play N64 games without the N64 controller? I know you can plan SNES games with the Wii controller but how would you play a N64 game?

jb1830
09-28-2007, 12:39 PM
Well, I don't actually own any Virtual Console games because I have all my old nintendo systems hanging around...but a lot of the games are mapped to work on the wii remote and nunchuk. The ones that cannot be played on the wii remote require either a gamecube controller or a Wii Classic controller. Which is like an SNES controller with dual analog sticks.

http://www.blavish.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/wii-classic-controller-review-12-1-2006.jpg

If you plan on playing gamecube games or if you have a gamecube already just use the gamecube controller. If you don't already have a gamecube controller I would recommend the Wavebird, it's nintendo's wireless controller and by far the best option.

No don't have a gamecube. :(

Just a little confused as to where the trigger would go from the N64 controller?

jb1830
09-28-2007, 02:20 PM
The Z button is on the top next to the R button (its the little purple one on the pic) the classic controller has one too.

Just got the Wii last night! I went out and bought an extra controller for the gf, we played golf and tennis. The boxing is fun but the system didn't register most of my punches, and the baseball is kinda dumb. :p

Still don't have the internet but I realized that I can buy gamecube games now too? And play them on the Wii with a gamecube controller? That's pretty cool.

I'm going to buy another game today, I am thinking Zelda but I heard the Prince of Persia is pretty neat too?

Still no internets. :( So I can't use any internet features yet. Oh well.

vc games arent gonna show up to download and burn etc.. however you can make your own gc discs with as many gc games as you can fit on one and boot it....

that is if you have a modded system of course.. orrrr this is another way just to boot copied gc games using "sdloader".

Loserkid - thanks for the link! Will be getting them tomorrow.

Just read reviews on Zelda. Will be picking it up today! I can't wait.

And I wish I could steal a neighbor's wireless signal. All my neighbors are over 70 years old. :(

I just saw that Wii Jacket thing on another site....that thing is ugly...nonetheless I'm still getting them since they are free.

Did anyone see the new footage for Super Mario Galaxy?! Looks ridiculous...so psyched.

Also for the people looking to add internet for their Wii. I don't think anyone made it clear. Theres 2 options. You can buy the Nintendo USB adapter which is a USB dongle that shares the Internet connection from your computer with the Wii (Wouldn't recommend it unless your computer is in the same room as the Wii) and then theres a USB adapter that plugs right into the back of your Wii and lets you use an ethernet cable...Both of these are available at game stores.
