S14 or GSX , both sick cars, but make sure to do the sr20 swap on the s14

i always loved the nimbleness of the RX-7... they arent cheap but they are in the pricerange of some of the cars you have listed. they handle well, they are quick in stock form, and can be turned into monsters. you gotta deal the whole piston mentality though

+1 for the MazdaSpeed Protege.

Also look for used EVO's. They are a bit pricey, but I have seen them for less than 18-19K.

Also used Mini Cooper's. You want to talk go-kart. Plus they are HUGE inside.(just don't put anyone you like in the back)

agreed on the Mazdaspeed, hot little car. Cheap, quick, Callaway designed turbo setup... yum. Questionable looks however.

Bryan has a good point with the FD Rx-7, however it is only has two seats.

If hauling **** isn't important I'm a huge fan of the MR-S. Mid-Engine, RWD... toyota reliability, phenominal breaking, PIMP hard-top avalible. Plus if you get bored with it you can call up Hass and get their GT25R turbo kit for it, or stuff a 2ZZ celica GT-S motor and six speed in the ass end.

The SR20 is so totally not the "HAVE TO DO" for the S-chassis. The KA is plenty fine, too. And of course, the RB26/25 is even better

gti is a very good handling car also i will def agree travis. and proto im telling you the sr is def better then the ka. ka have some good torque but the sr is easier to build up. Both are good engines but think about it. the ka is a na engine the sr is a turbo engine. you have to do some precautionary work to safely turbo the ka. ill give you a ride one time sr's are so much fun.

mysweetfracture
02-19-2005, 05:27 PM
and on note the rb's and the sr's are pretty much equal. the sr's though ahve a lot of usdm interchangable parts making downtime very slim compared to having to order alot of rb parts when something goes wrong.

i don't know about the 240. Its great for drifting thats for sure, but other than that its iffy IMO.

its got great weight distribution or whatever, but i drove my friends a few times which is stock minus a front strut bar, and i didn't think he handled tol well. I might be wrong, just my experience (plus i drive a scooby so  )

your car is awesome though, i just checked out your car domain. Very clean, plus i love that body style! I was considering getting one but we get way too much snow up where i go to school

MSF...it's cool. The KA/SR/CA/RB debate will run on for ages. They all have their place. I was just noting that the KA can be equally as cool, hence why I'm building/boosting mine. I'd love to get a ride in the SR, that'd be

MSF, just out of curiosity and if you don't mind my asking, how much did the engine cost you? I've always wanted to buy an older 240 and do a swap just to build a fun drift car. :keepsdreaming:

So i think the choices has been brought down to a GTI or an 00-01RS. I'll test drive one see how i really like it. I think id want a 1.8T but i heard VR6's have some fun power....

MuddyREX

VR6's are a different drive. They may feel torquier out of the box, but the 1.8T has more speed-for-green potential.

yea chip a 1.8t and it turns into 260 tq 230hp

try to make that much more power on a vr6 without serious work

With the stock K03s, awp motors with all the bolt ons and a chip are lucky to put down 205 hp. 250-260ft/lbs is the most i have seen a stock turbo 1.8 motor put down. but he is looking for handling. If it ever gets warm ill take you for a ride in my 20th. I think it handles pretty good.

I would have to say Mazdaspeed Protege and not because I have one. It has one of the most solid chassis out on the market. Very responsive and has high amounts of grip. You can get the tail out on demand. The drivetrain is not the best though. The stock LSD will brake sooner or later if you drive the car spirited.

I would also consider a Neon, including the SRT-4 -- better yet, a later one with the Quaife LSD.

GTi 20AE's handle nice...it's not particularly great. A Shine racing real street suspension is made for autocrossing for not too much money -- looks are a another thing, function over form. The torsion beam suspension of the Golf chassis is famous for 3-wheeling around a course.

The best thing about the GTI is, it is a good balance between comfort and performance...and we VW people tend to be dash strokers.

A regular GTI has smaller brakes, rides about 1/2 inch higher, standard 16" with available 17" wheels, and has oil-filled rear bushings giving it a softer ride than the 20AE

Actually if you want a fun, cheap, inexpensive car, buy a MK1 or MK2 GTi.

I think the 1.8T will serve him fine. Pretty good bang for the buck, and a classy looking sport compact (boat load of parts.) We need more class on the streets... and less rice.

There was some guy eyeing up that WRB WRX yesterday, I tried to pop a u-turn to tell him to buy it. By the time I got there he was either inside, or gone.

My last 3 cars have been subarus (95 L, 02 WRX, 04 STi) and ive really enjoyed them all, stock wrx handling isnt bad but can be made alot better with some minor suspension upgrades, the STi handling is awesome...although probably a little out of your range. Im sure you'll do your homework and find something that you'll be happy with. That wrx looks like a pretty good deal. Just my .02  :D

Kind of why it was surprising. I was expecting a lot more nose heavy push, but it really did handle fairly well.

why dont you just buy my car. ill sell it to you for 11,500. then you wont have to worry about what you want to buy.

btw the swap cost about 2500 for the engine and essentials about 3200. plus install and auto - manual swap about 4500 total. add in all the mods and the car i have spent about 15k easy.
