So I was working today and there was this nice last gen WRX on the alignment rack with my friend/co worker cursing as he worked on it. Not all that unusual as he curses about everything. The owner came out to see how things were going and since I had nothing to do I started chatting with him about his car. Asked him about his exhaust, ecu mods, and his boost gauge as I want to install one myself. After we were done he gave me a piece of paper with this forums name on and he was Troll.
So what about me, I'm a young guy with an old man's car. It's a 2001 Saab 9-5 Aero, and before you laugh at it you should know it can hang with an EVO........from a roll.............stupid FWD. It's got a 2.3L turbocharged 4 cylinder underrated at 230 hp and 260 lb-ft. On a hot day it runs about 20 psi. It's almost like a stealth bomber really, rather obscene amount of power from something you'd never notice.
I'm here to find people in my area to talk cars with slash race with. I really want to get into autocross and stuff like that. That's all for now, later.

I love turbo Saabs. They get no respect, but are no joke.

Excellent intro.
Lately, I really like the way the Saab front end looks. It will be interesting to hear how you hang with most of the other cars here because I really don't know much else about Saabs. Just like you said they go unnoticed...
I wish my car could be more stealth, too.
Welcome!

Saab and Volvo= Most underrated, unnoticed cars made.
300whp with bolt ons is not a hard thing to do with either make.

Sadly, I'd melt my pistons before I hit that as 300BHP is about the limit. With forged ones I can reach for the sky though. :D My biggest problem is the EGTs and the stock downpipe as it's about at it's limit in stock form. The next is the stock intercooler, let's see if I can find a picture.

Oh god it's terrible! And it's behind the AC radiator! And then there's the wonderful ECU.

I love Saabs. Welcome to the site man. Don’t run into many tuned Saabs.
We’ll have to go from a roll some time… ha, ha!
Again… welcome.

DSMs came with non-forged pistons. They seem to behave just fine at the 400+ whp territory. The trick is getting the fuel and timing right. Of course opening up the exhaust and getting that IC up front should help. It looks like that IC should actually flow a lot of air -- on second thought maybe it doesn't. I suppose you would know better than me.

I had looked into a getting either a Volvo or Saab before and I had found a few places that said 300whp was fine on stock internals.
I'm sure those things have some pesky ECU's though. So do S2k's, I hate the ECU.

Stock ECUs are annoying. I need stronger driveline stuff before I can even think about putting out more power though. So AEM is close to last on my list.

A DSM isn't a Saab B235R. The problem is Saab went fuel efficiency crazy when they updated the engine and the pistons got the short end of the stick. The rods and crankshaft can handle anything I can throw at them though. 300 WHP, while very possible, is pushing the limits to the end and it'll only be a matter time. That, and it would cost literally thousands in ecu upgrades to even get there. Not that this is a problem for me, as I'm having enough trouble not killing myself at stock power levels. 230 whp in a FWD sedan, not a particularly good idea.
