After talking with Raven18940 I began to reminisce about the good old days when I was a Saab guy :-p Check out the "Beast" she had ~300 bhp at the wheels running 25-35 psi, torque steered like a b**ch and couldn't stop if her life depended on it...but I still miss her

Pretty nice lookin Saab you had there man. Isn't it funny how over the years we own a car we even come to love their imperfections or downfalls, and even after we may move on and sell the car for something possibly better we still miss them.

There is a Quaiffe LSD available for the 2.3 gearbox on the 9-5 and the viggen 9-3. ( Same as - the Colbalt has the same trans - but with different gearing and case for the lower powered Supercharger) The LSD defintely helps with the Tourqe steer, I have one on my 9-5
And brake pads will help but you could go with the Viggen or Aero 308 MM brake set up, it will stop on a dime...

Saablink.net is the best site in the US for what you young guys are doing to late model street cars. The only problem is that that Saab is so limited in production that there is not a huge aftermarket for cool stuff so you get a lot of one off custom stuff ( like my 330 MM brake set up)
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/10/web/2134000-2134999/2134775_23_full.jpg
and there are only 3 tuners in the US that can custom tune...

That's what Saab guys like, definitely undercover cars. I love the look of the BMW 335i or Audi S type driver when he sees a saab pull on him... priceless...
You can see what kinda stuff is available in the US ( easily obtainable) from geniunesaab.com or in europe at Maptun.com Partsforsaabs.com or abbottracing.com
It woudl be nice to have a few more peope in the area join the Saab family!

There are two kinds of SAAB enthusiasts. Those with more power, and those that are broke, but want more power. Ever logical part of my brain says "your car has enough power, the front wheels will have trouble fielding more, you'll have trouble driving in the rain." Then I get into my car, pin it wide open in 4th, and just watch the speedo wind round at a mind boggling rate, and think "yeah, it could take a bit more power." :) Then I remember I'm one of the broke ones. :-p The engines are solid in these cars, they can make a lot of power. It's getting it onto the road that's the problem, and I don't mean the traction problems. Old 9000's were like WRX's, push beyond 300whp and you're gonna need a stack of spare trannies, and the Classic 900's were even worse. :-p

Saablink.net is a good site and also Saabcentral.com. In terms of which SAAB to get, I prefer the larger saabs, the 9000 and the 9-5. The later model (94-98) 9000 have beefier trannies from what I've heard and the engines can take pretty much whatever you can throw at them. The 9-5 has a pretty much bulletproof tranny (by saab standards), they only start to break around 500whp, but the pistons are weaker and there are sludge issues.

Mine's pretty edgy with it's apexi N1 muffler and its black grill. :-p Yeah, as a community we like things low key so you don't see the modded saabs. Like JSSAAB's car, looks and sounds like a standard 9-5, but it'll blow the doors off a stock STi.
Yo JSSAAB, you need to check my suspension at some point.

Been travelling quite a bit and haven't known my schedule for more than a few days in advance lately.
I am dying to feel it, its time to do more to my ride ( but I had melted the Cat with that rich ECU now I gotta get another and the race cats won't fit under the subframe brace...)
You gotta feel mine with the new ECU ( but I need the cat- I have to get it on the dyno but I think its definitley close to 300 WHP now

Thanks for the comments guys! She had an open diff and the gearbox had to be rebuilt TWICE! The brakes had been upgraded with better pads and much larger rotors...but they still sucked. She could really have used much larger calipers. I had completely rebuilt the suspension with all urethane bushings, shocks, springs and uprated sway bars. She certainly was a beast...but nothing compared to the beast that I am building now:afro:

If GM could have adapted more off the Saabs to the Cobalts, they would have been a whole hell of a lot faster. Still alot of potential there, but nothing like the original Saab platform.
